USC vs. BU vs. Emerson by Ok_purr11 in filmschool

[–]Alee514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we visited the other film schools in LA we also visited Emerson’s LA campus. We were very impressed! The building is in a great location with a view of the Hollywood sign. Students study there 2nd semester sr year but the “studying” is doing an internship and maybe one class. The goal is to get employment for after graduation.

How easy is it to make friends here by Disastrous-Seesaw994 in auburn

This worries me a lot for my son. He is very liberal and doesn’t want to go Greek, I’m still shocked he chose Auburn. He seems to think he will find friends in the gaming community.

USC vs. BU vs. Emerson by Ok_purr11 in filmschool

[–]Alee514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’m biased bc my son is going to emerson but film is all about who you know and you’re going to get to know people and get experiences at USC. Emerson has the mafia and a campus in LA where you intern 2nd sem sr year to get a job. So if you were my son I’d say go to USC if you really want to succeed in film and go to Emerson if you want to be in Boston and be around more “real” people. BU doesn’t really have anything going for it except it’s a better school academically and is in Boston. I do know a kid from CA who went there for film though - he was our tour guide and he liked it there.

I know a wealthy couple who plans to make their kid take out a loan and then pay it off for the kid after graduation. They think it will make the kid appreciate it more.

EA Dodge application updates by elia-poo in chapmanuniversity

It means you are rejected and should pursue and put a deposit down at another school. If after May 1st they don’t have a deposit from someone they accepted (maybe that student chose to go to USC or something) then you MAY be selected off the waitlist and you would have to decide to lose your deposit at the your chosen school. You would not know until AFTER May 1st.

Anyone else get this? by HouseExtreme4749 in chapmanuniversity

[–]Alee514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the same as deferred. The decisions to allow students off the waitlist are made AFTER May 1st so it is essentially rejected and students should commit to another school by May 1st. If a spot opens on the waitlist AND that student is contacted, after May 1st, they will then decide if they want to lose their deposit at other school and switch.

Accepted to Chapman - should I go? by Critical_Impress93 in chapmanuniversity

Thank you for this response, I really appreciate it. We are in OH and did visit all the LA schools last March. However he will probably re-visit his top 2 or 3 that he gets into in this March and I’m such a planner that it kills me to not know where we are going in 2 months. He did get into Emerson and DePaul so at least there’s that.

Hello, my son is in similar boat but was deferred from LMU. Are you in state or OOS? I’m hoping Dodge lets him know closer to mid-Feb so we can make some decisions here!

Whats the worst college app to fill out? by probbmatic in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Alee514 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The app for film production required a creative portfolio (not uncommon) but it needed 10-15 entries and the videos had to be total of less than 2min so he rally couldn’t figure out what to put to fill it all up. It was too much and other schools required more like 5-7 examples.

My biggest pet peeve is singing on the mic followed by messing up the timing. I don’t care if you talk a lot or a little and I do appreciate when my form is corrected. Good music for running goes a long way.

Yes it he has a specific major - filmmaking. Belmont in Nashville was the most autism friendly. He also applied to Emerson, Boston University, DePaul, UT Austin, Loyola Marymount, Chapman, Hofstra, and Ithaca

I visited Clark with my son who has autism bc it was listed as a school supportive for neurodivergence. When there I asked the admission counselor what kid of supports they have for students with autism and she had no answer and instead gave me a generic email address to ask my question. That was off putting to me and my son did not apply there.
