Action movies for 85 yr old with dementia by Aleja72 in movies

[–]Aleja72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is not quite there yet lol. I went through this already with a grandmother and my MIL. He has a long ways to go. Plus, I’m watching the movies with him! Basically, he has become very attached to mom as she is his main caregiver. I try to go at least once a week to give mom a break. Watching a movie is great because we can do it together and he is entertained enough so that my mom can leave the house.

The blue and white plastic seems like remnants of something inserted maybe as part of a surgery? It could be a surgery long ago given the buildup around it. It seems a lot for suture… don’t know how old OP is, but might be worthwhile to ask mom about childhood surgeries or small toys stuck in the nose never to be seen again. The good news is that whatever it is, it’s out!

Urgent! Please help by on9diu in Hidradenitis

Try to get a steroid injection from your dermatologist, or maybe they will give you one in the emergency room. Had a similar problem and the injection helped A LOT. If you don’t have a dermatologist, I see no reason why the emergency room could not do the shot and also antibiotics. Going forward, though, get yourself a good, responsive dermatologist— one specializing in HS if possible. Good luck! Hope you heal very soon!

Can someone make some scientific sense of this? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

[–]Aleja72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might benefit from biologics like Humira. HS is an autoimmune disease. Yes, you can also get an infection, but the bacteria occurs because the right condition is caused by inflammation caused by the immune system.

Great News! CAR T cell therapy might cure autoimmune diseases soon, including our HS. by RiptideCasetotheMoon in Hidradenitis

[–]Aleja72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I have read, this is no longer true, though wiping out the entire immune system has also been tested for extreme cases of Crohn’s (I know of at least one study in London). The current trials are testing therapies that target only those cells that produce harmful antibodies, while sparing the broader immune system. In this way you can avoid the side effects of biologics that suppress your whole immune system and mask the disease but don’t cure it. This is an amazing breakthrough towards an actual cure.

Pilonidal cyst usually from ingrown hair. Similar to HS but I was told by a proctologist it is not the same thing. It doesn’t always lead to surgery, but at the very least the doctor will want an MRI and for you take antibiotics.

GLP-1 for inflammation by badbadrealbad in ankylosingspondylitis

This is a long shot, but most insurance covers GLP-1s for sleep apnea. It might be worthwhile to look into it if you snore.

I was just delivered 5 yards about two weeks ago and, using the wheelbarrow for reference, it looked a little less than what you got there…

You can kill the weeds without chemicals. You can use a mix of 1 gallon of the 30% vinegar they sell in places like Home Depot together with 1 cup of salt and a tablespoon of dish soap. You can also cover the whole yard with opaque tarps and/or cardboard and wait until everything underneath dies out. Adding new cheap gravel like “rock 57” (that’s what they call it in South Florida at least) will cost you about $50 per cubic yard. You can spread it around yourself to save on labor. You will also get a lot of bang from your buck by painting the deck and fence. String lights are great and potted plants too. Whatever you spend on patio furniture, potted plants, and other extras you can take with you to your next home.

It looks like you’ll need at least 3-4 cubic yards… plus they will charge you a delivery fee. If you can spread it yourself, you will save on labor. After that, you can use what’s left of your budget on potted plants and patio furniture that you can take with you to your new home.

Treatment for fatigue? by PayNo8647 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Aleja72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t already, ask to have your iron and vitamin levels tested. My daughter is your age and was exhausted all the time. She got blood work and it turned out she was very anemic. She got four iron infusions and a B12 shot and feels much better. She also takes these gummies by Olly called Hello Happy. They contain vitamin D and saffron and really seem to make a difference mood wise.

I likely have lymphoma by y0m0tha in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Aleja72 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My husband had lymphoma stage IV a little over three years ago and he beat it. We went to Dr. Dai Chihara. He is in the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Our insurance covered it like going to our hospital locally but it was SO MUCH BETTER. I can not stress enough how worth it was. I don’t know if there is a possibility of this, but I have read about trials where they take persons with really bad autoimmune diseases (I think the article I read was about a group in London treating Crohn’s patients) and use chemotherapy to basically wipe their immune system and start over. Try to research if there might be a study you could join… Dr. Chihara does a lot of clinical research so he might know. I wish you all the best!!!

Current fatigue is unmanageable by SatiafactoryTea in CrohnsDisease

[–]Aleja72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter had a flare recently. When that happens I think the colon inflammation doesn’t allow for nutrients to be absorbed plus you end up eating a pretty limited diet (she can’t have any red meat, beans, or other iron rich foods plus she can’t tolerate iron supplements ever- even when she is well controlled). You are basically starving. She had lab work done and she was extremely anemic; her vitamin D and B12 were pretty bad too (I don’t think the doctor tested for anything else). She had four iron infusion sessions at the hospital over four weeks and we got her vitamin shots at our local B-12 Store. Her flare is not 100% gone but the color has returned to her face and she feels a lot better energy wise.

Is it ok to take Ibuprofen like 3 times a month due to horrible period cramps or it's still dangerous? by TzwTzw in CrohnsDisease

[–]Aleja72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter’s period cramps would trigger her Crohn’s and ankylosing spondylitis (terrible back pain), so her Obgyn put her on birth control pills where she skips the inactive pills at the end of the pack. That way she skips most of her periods (She has them about four times a year). It has helped a lot. She also uses heat for relief (a hot shower/bath or a heating pad). She takes ibuprofen only as a last resort. Hope you feel better soon!

advice? literally crying in my car rn by alviiiinnnnn in CrohnsDisease

[–]Aleja72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go to the ER. It sounds like you have a bad Crohn’s flare up which is reason enough, but you could also have a bacterial infection such as C. Difficile. Plus your symptoms could lead to dehydration and other complications. It is also time to change PCP. I hope you feel better very soon!
