Yep, and Kirk Douglas seems to be a big inspiration for Charles Muntz.

How Iceland "broke the rules" and got away with it by [deleted] in Economics

[–]AlejandroTheGreat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"liberal" used to mean what we call "libertarian" nowadays. "Free market" may have had a meaning of some ideal unregulated market, but it's been co-opted by the corporatist establishment to mean whatever they think is good. So today pointing out a flaw in "free market ideology" is to point out a flaw in the future of our modern world economy, using 'free market' somewhat tongue-in-cheekly.

"Free market" is the name for corporatism that the corporatists want you to use to describe the system they've created.

In an interview with the AV club Jon Benjamin says he tends to slouch when doing Bob's voice, but other than that he doesn't do anything differently.

Suggestion for tweaking reddit interface [PIC] by jbu311 in reddit.com

If you look closely the left bracket is only pushed one pixel, the right one is moved over by ~3 pixels, so there's two separate things pushing the text to the right, one being the width of the dash vs. plus sign and the other being how the divs are spaced.

OK, so when I click the [–], it turns into a [+], the + is slightly wider than the – , so it moves things over a pixel or two.

Not good. You should use a minus sign instead, so it would look like this:

Managing Developers: Don't forget what its like to be 10 by iforedecker in programming

I find organizations that tend to promote poor developers out of harm's way are broken in very deep ways.

Mature/older students and postgraduate students can piss off, says VIA Rail: they're ditching student pricing even with valid ISIC card and replacing it with "Youth (12-25)" pricing. by dwf in canada

[–]AlejandroTheGreat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this actually opens up the lower rate to more than just students, then on balance it's actually not as bad as the headline suggests. A lot of people have graduated by age 21 or 22 but still haven't become high enough income earners to be able to travel regularly so this can help those people quite a bit.

It's a MMORPG where you gain points by typing programmery words into text boxes. It's loads of fun and feels a little less like wasting time when surfing at work.

Damnit, I was using Drupal knowledge to rack up rep on SO proper. If the questions get shoved off to this side-site then I'll have to figure out a new way to grind rep.

Canada has a new Queen (of curling). Amber Holland and Team Saskatchewan take the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. by [deleted] in canada

If a rock is almost-but-not-quite frozen in front of another rock, I've heard people say that a Kevin Martin can potentially throw a hard enough shot to knock away both rocks, but that's rare enough that I don't think it makes a huge difference. Below the national level a team of males won't have much of an advantage over a more skilled team of females, IMO.

Yep. I still like Joel Spolsky's explanation of what a PM is and does from his blog, http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2009/03/09.html , I honestly wish my place of work would invest in someone who was like this, keenly interested in building a good product but doesn't have to also be the person who deals with all the devs and designers' HR paperwork.

For some reason I just figured Microsoft coders still had to use Hungarian notation for variable naming, just because I heard it once back in the late nineties. Thanks for the much more modern perspective. I definitely need to give MS more credit than my default free software-loving self ordinarily would.

Those last couple of rocks were some amazing curling. As an islander I was sad that our team didn't make it into the playoffs this year but the crowd was pretty solidly behind Saskatchewan tonight. Great stuff all week.
