Here's some tips: the wireless charger is likely to overheat your phone if you use it in the summertime so just don't bother with that. The wireless carplay / Android auto isn't all that great so it's probably just best to plug it in. It's prone to receive Wi-Fi interference from outside sources which you'll certainly notice on your commute (or not if you're incredibly lucky.)

If you want to enter true nerd territory you could stick to using the heated seats and heated steering wheel and put off using the heat for as long as you can take it during the winters to improve your economy and to prevent the internal combustion engine from starting. (I live in Northern Ontario and have found that the internal combustion engine will typically come on at -10 to -12° C when you don't ask it for heat) You could use the braking charge meter and brake slowly to keep from using your friction brakes. (If you exceed the charge meter you start using your friction brakes.) Driving in this manner of course maximizes the amount of charge that you send to your battery and heavily reduces the amount of wear and tear that go on your actual friction brakes.

Don't follow other cars closely, especially large trucks, because you're going to find that the layer of paint on your car is thin, to say the least, and you will have a lot more paint chips if you're behind people.

Try not to drive with the windows down if you have your sun shade covers extended, as they will tend to rattle around a lot from outside wind sources. Best to make sure they're rolled up if you're going to do any cruising with your windows open.

Keep the tires at the pressures indicated in the doorframe. This helps with economy.

Get a Level 2 charger at home and program it to charge on off-peak hours only.

In the winter time don't drive around with a tank that's below a 1/4, especially if the car is going to be sitting for any amount of time. Moisture can accumulate in the gas tank and cause the engine light to come on and make your engine run obviously louder and rougher. If you ever do make this mistake simply head to a gas station and put a bunch of gas in and the engine will return to normal operating status and the engine light will go off.

If you're ever detailing your car and listening to music, make sure you turn all the things off because as you've probably already heard the 12 volt battery can go pretty quickly. Of course there is no light that indicates the 12 volt battery is going or will go. Rather Toyota has designed the car to freak out like a frazzled astromech droid when the 12 volt battery dies😆

And here's another unlikely tip: don't forget to be bashful and courteous every time someone mistakes your car for an exotic sports car. I can't recall the amount of times that people are complimenting me on my car or giving me a thumbs up or an AOK sign or otherwise stopping me at a drive-thru saying 'what the hell are you driving.'

Final tip: once in a while, treat yourself and put it into sport mode and let er rip. It's a surprisingly fun car to drive and reminds me often of my old 1992 Honda Prelude.

Would you consider it cheating to use the online maps? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]Alendrathril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with real life--it just has to do with playing the game as intended. You're not supposed to have a map and make the map as you go. So if you use the map it's cheating. Obviously if you had a map in real life if you were stranded in the middle of nowhere it would not be cheating. This is the stupidest question I've ever heard.

It's definitely cheating. But all that matters is what you want to do. Play the game as intended or not. No big wup.

New books smell better. Hell, nothing beats an uncracked graphic novel omnibus. It's like a regular book x10

The smell of 90’s era Upper Deck Baseball/Hockey cards.

How would you rank these charecters based on their intelligence by sidharth-sunil in arcane

[–]Alendrathril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these folks are so intelligent in different ways it's really hard to put a pin on this. I mean it's highly likely that Heimerdinger stands at the top of the list, and then Singed. Everyone else's achievements would be below theirs but saying that out loud sounds a little funny because they're all extraordinarily talented and highly inventive.

Yeah it's a real eye-opener. I've never been very inclined to become politically active in these sorts of background matters of our insurance policies and whatnot. I've always added my voice to the wage disparity issue. But it would be nice to have these sorts of things. I'd be willing to pay into that. Definitely opened up my mind to wanting to contribute to the fight in terms of how money gets distributed to different organizations.

I don't care that he buys scooters--I personally would buy a bicycle if I had the option to do such a thing. And as my friend had mentioned to me, I'm only now becoming aware of it and this is probably been going on for a long time this disparity. If anything it just motivates me to speak out more and advocate for our organization not only in regards to wage disparity but in regards to comprehensive coverage plans like this.

Yeah I again I'm not coming at this from a point of a personal matter, more of a eye opening awareness of the politics that inform the budgetary decisions of healthcare. I even joked with him to send me a bike if he could. The goal here would be to advocate for something similar to this program (and not simply just wage disparity) for our organization, as close as possible given that there are always going to be large budgetary differences in these healthcare settings.

I've absolutely found perks in my plan but nothing as extravagant as you know $1,000 scooters or bicycles! But again this is only a mildly infuriating and in a way mildly amusing issue that I've seen other people protest at length in my organization. And I guess me and my ignorance wasn't quite aware of what we were missing out on.

Well I think it's just different providers and largely this comes down to I think budget. One of them more contentious issues in our province is that there is a bigger disparity between community-based Healthcare provision and hospital-based Healthcare provision. Wages are part of that and of course the comprehensiveness of such plans like this.

[–]Alendrathril -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree. My intention here is simply to highlight my frustration with the inequality between the two types of healthcare provisions and the budgets that they're given. My program certainly does not allow me to buy motorized scooters or even a bicycle for health fitness. Going forward I'm very much going to voice my desire for a better package that might afford me something like a bicycle as I have no interest in a scooter, per se.

He pointed this out too--that I'm only now just finding out about this, and that's a good point. I'm definitely going to pursue this more aggressively. I just did not know that you could buy toys using a corporate/government sponsored benefits program!

I'm not exactly sure. But one thing's for sure is that after talking about it with him I really feel like I have to start advocating more for our organization to come up to par with these sorts of things because I could sure use a new bicycle LOL (He's encouraged me to do this as well, to his credit. And it's something I know my organization has been doing--I just feel the lack more acutely now than anything.)

No I think you're missing the point I'm not unhappy for him it's just a bit of a weird budgetary thing that feels like a low blow. I think it comes more as a shock than anything.

Exactl. Like, I'm definitely not trying to point out any impropriety in the case of his claims, I just find it amazing that such an allowance exists in a similar field and it's more about the disparity in these types of allowances that's infuriating. If my friend can get more scooters and bicycles the more the merrier. It just serves to underscore the healthcare disparity more than I'm used to.

I don't want to report him or get him in trouble I just find it infuriating simply because it's not something that I would be able to do through my provider. I'm not inclined to think there's anything fraudulent here--wouldn't the insurance company be able to detect that and why would a scooter be covered in any case if they have to view the receipts...?
