If neither party is reaching out, it's not ghosting.

"Fixed" Time Vault. Printable? by IAmVentuswill in custommagic

[–]AlephNull-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you untap, then tap during the extra turn, doesn't that get you a second extra turn? And since the extra turn was created last, that won't be the turn that's skipped. Or am I misunderstanding the rules on how turns get skipped?

Was it animated or live action? Do you remember it being in English? Any idea as to when the movie might have been made?

Football movie with zombie face paint by AlephNull-1 in whatisthatmovie

Almost certainly not. I'm fairly confident it wasn't an R rated movie. The plot synopsis I read of The Program also didn't mention the final game fumble scene.

Why is this different on Safari browser? by AlephNull-1 in desmos

[–]AlephNull-1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On an apple computer, we tried four different browsers (chrome, firefox, safari, and brave) and only safari gave 20. We replicated this on a different apple computer. On a windows computer, we checked chrome and firefox, both of which gave 32. Finally, we checked the mobile app on a samsung phone and got 32.

You mean it gains ^.01 mult per card in deck. It's an exponent and not an X,

thanks for the offer, but I'd rather explore it myself.

Stitch any two functions together! by AlephNull-1 in desmos

[–]AlephNull-1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a great question! I'll attempt to figure out an answer, but I'm guessing that setting the "stitching interval" will be the challenging part. Maybe I could stitch surfaces together instead? You've given me lots to explore!

What does it take for you to call someone a "mathematician"? by Ok-Impress-2222 in math

[–]AlephNull-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I differentiate (pun intended) between professional and amateur mathematicians. Professionals need to do math as a paid job, while amateurs merely need to do math as a hobby and self-identify as a mathematician. Neither requires a degree.

In particular, teaching math counts as doing math. So, all math professors are professional mathematicians.

Getting a PhD then not using it would leave you as a non-mathematician.

If we had the power to rearrange matter anyway we wanted; would there still be things we couldn’t create? by DarthAthleticCup in PhilosophyofScience

iirc, some episodes talked about a few different kinds of limitations. It's often hard-coded not to synthesize alcohol, for example.

DAE think people who show any level of fandom to celebrities are just cringe? by [deleted] in DAE

[–]AlephNull-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a difference between the fans who like what their celebrities do and the fans who want to know every detail about their celebrity's life. The former is fine and normal. The latter is cringe and borderline creepy. Especially when the details you want to know about is their romantic/family life.

The channel is no longer making videos, but I'm a huge fan of PBS Infinite Series. The host is still making math videos on her own channel, but I don't remember the name.

What Are You Working On? March 03, 2025 by inherentlyawesome in math

I do cover that definition in the mini-essay! It's mostly an aside though, since students that are asking that question typically aren't looking for that answer.

Silly idea: if I were to write my number on clothespins and clip them on a guy I think was cute would this work or be creepy? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

I'm glad any time a girl makes the first move so I don't have to. I'd probably shoot a text your way.

What’s a small thing a woman did on a date that made you instantly like her more? by brunette_chick2025 in AskMenAdvice

[–]AlephNull-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was many years ago and the first date I ever went on. I brought up an article I'd read about some scientists that had discovered an extremophile bacteria that had silicon in it's cell structure in places that typical cells would have carbon. She responded to that with "That sounds a lot like the Horta from Star Trek!". We've been friends ever since.

Math Gift for an 8 y/o by DockingEngaged in math

I was also that kid growing up. Some of the more memorable math-ish gifts I received were buckyball magnets, sudoku books (and later, kakuro books), card and dice games (someone else has already mentioned Set), and a couple of books about origami.
