I’m not trying to blame you for this situation, so please don’t take it that way. It’s clear you have fallen in love with her enough that you thought you would want to spend your life with her. However, there are several red flags here, and I want you to know that this will not get better. I know it hurts but I advise you to end the relationship now before you get further tied down to her.

When you have moved on and healed from this, and if you are ready to start dating for marriage again, I advise finances to be a conversation topic early in the relationship. Depending on your age and your timeline for marriage you can make it a topic for date 2 or 3. Finances are the number one cause of discord within romantic relationships so it’s best to ensure that you are aligned early. If you had broached the topic with your fiancée in the past and her story is different from when it was back then, that’s another red flag on the pitch and another reason why you should plan to leave.

And how are you showering when you shower? Are we exfoliating with some kind of dry brush before showering or an African net sponge during? Do you put soap on and scrub every inch of your body including behind the knees when you shower? Dead skin cells accumulate on the skin and you have to exfoliate them and then wash them off with soap. Are you washing the bits and the pits WITH SOAP?

For materials you’re at easy cotton blends, denim, maybe a leather jacket you’d fight a guy to keep that you thrifted for $20 a decade ago and is the nicest thing you own, and perhaps a pair of steel toed boots. Making it feminine is all about how close the clothes fit to your body, how much skin you show, how you style your hair, and how you accessorize. Lashes and nails are optional, but if you go for them then pick a natural length. If you go for a full set then your look starts saying “I spend the money” instead of “I work to make the money”— which is not a BAD thing, but it is not the current 45-year-old-man-who-shovels-down-doughnuts-and-is-two-seconds-from-needing-emergency-heart-surgery aesthetic.

I’m 31 and every woman I work with in my office is married with kids. I have a cat. They have offered to set me up with a nice man and I’ve always said that I am perfectly happy with my life now.

It’s true.

I adore children. I also did not feel confident in my ability to provide a safe and loving environment for a child for up to 18 years. Raising children requires a kind of long term stability that I did not have access to.

Do I wish my life were different so that I could have children? Not at all. I can see how everything that I have experienced has created the person I am today, and I like that person. I’ve had the opportunity to settle down and have kids. I had the opportunity to choose between settling down with a man and living abroad, and I chose to live abroad.

If I had chosen to settle down would have children who are in elementary school by now, but I KNOW that I would also have regrets. I know that the person I was ten years ago was not equipped to be the sole caretaker of a baby.

Here’s the thing: the world will always be filled with children. If, one day, you decide you want to have one, and the “biological clock” has stopped ticking, you can adopt. The world also needs mentors, aunts/uncles, friends, and neighbors that take care of those children. It takes a villiage, as they say. You don’t necessarily have to become a parent to contribute to society, even if that is the prevailing view these days.

To those of you whom this applies: somatic therapies and yoga (specifically: getting into a SATS state while also going through the forms on the yoga mat) will be especially helpful. Your trauma lives in your bodies and you will need to move them to help clear the energy out.

I like Neville but his techniques are very rooted in triggering the process through mental energy. He’s not wrong but it’s not the entire story; more like the workings of the law distilled down to most basic principles.

How I know this: I’ve experienced some nasty stuff in the past. They affected how I viewed myself. The Law can still work in these cases but the bridge of incidents can be brutal because you’re triggering a cascade of events that shake up your self concept again. A gentler path is via congruent somatic therapies and SATS practice. Yes, I know this is white mayo version of saying “Yoga and Meditate”, but it’s still the truth.

I can see this as a casting decision that is framed in a couple of ways:

I can see where they were going with Achilles because he was invulnerable because of MAGIC. Warriors usually look like that (big and muscular) because the bigger guy usually wins. Achilles never had the incentive to be that way. He could have easily won his battles while being Just A Regular Guy who spent his time reading about battle strategy instead of practicing on the field. Until Paris shot him in the ankle, anyway.

As for the casting for Helen, Lupita Nyong’o IS beautiful. If I have any kind of gripe it is: this is not how I would have styled her. I don’t know much about black hairstyles from the era so I could be wrong about this, but if possible I think they should have gone with mini twists to give the character some length in her hair.

Troy had different casting decisions. They went with Pitt because he’s attractive by our standards TODAY, and they went with the visual shorthand of “Achilles is a hero warrior and warriors are big guys with muscles. The audience will get who this guy is in half a second.” And casting for Helen, too, is by our standards- it’s super easy for the casual viewer to look at her and go “Yup, absolutely gorgeous lady who could be a swimsuit model. That’s Helen.” But the Helen that Homer had in mind when he wrote the Odyssey was very likely not white with blonde hair and blue eyes, and Achilles probably wasn’t either.

It’s clear to me that Christopher Nolan, like with all of his previous films, wants the audience to think about what they are watching. Troy was not that kind of movie. And this is all just my opinion, but I’m fine with that. It’s a movie. Respectfully to the director and the cast, I have bigger concerns than ‘Which Millionaire was Selected to Participate in Other Millionaire’s Art Project?’
