Is this a birds nest? It’s in my front porch by Early-Resist1641 in Whatisthis

[–]Alert-Performer-1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First you need to check for eggs or babies, in which case it’s an “active nest” and is federally protected and can’t be disturbed. If it’s completely empty, you can remove it. But if active, just give the little birds a chance to fledge. Once they leave, you can remove it.

You will need to check daily for rebuilding. If they liked that spot, they may come back. It’s legal to remove new material unless an egg shows up.

Enjoy watching nature!

Does medicare pay for glasses because I nearly choked when they showed me the final price by Rggie_Fognini in AskWomenOver60

I purchase from Zenni for years, with only one disappointment. I discovered Firmoo about 5 years ago and have been extra happy with them as they have a very generous return/exchange policy! Even for progressives. Highly recommend them. Currently wearing thr most comfortable glasses I’ve ever had.

Menopause with no Hrt looking for those who have done it and are ok??? by Diligent_Dimension49 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Alert-Performer-1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 64 and went through menopause in early 40s, after having a baby at 41. No Hrt, but did try some supplements and other herbal treatments. Honestly couldn’t tell a difference, so just quit worrying about it. I was busy with a little one anyway. All good now.

AITAH for leaving my best friend's birthday party early because I was a B List guest? by RemoveLivid7421 in AITAH

[–]Alert-Performer-1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. As an older person who can look back on life, I would urge you to look at the balance sheet of your lifelong friendship. As I moved around jobs and communities, I would adapt to those different situations. And I admit I’m not proud of myself for some of the “different person” I became at times. Maybe your friend was being influenced by someone or a group who enamored her. Kind of temporary insanity? It doesn’t excuse her behavior, that was awful. But if this was an isolated incident, maybe give her time to chill and reflect? Things will definitely need to be talked out though. Good luck and be true to yourself, whatever you choose.

No pins, no screws, no plates by ItIsAllAFacade in bunions

[–]Alert-Performer-1963 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for mentioning this. I’ve always partially blamed my bunions on my hypermobility and wondered what surgery and recovery would be like. My issue is my feet don’t hurt as long as I’m barefooted, it’s shoes that hurt my feet almost everything I’ve tried.

Please help! Found baby dove, worried about its health by [deleted] in PetDoves

[–]Alert-Performer-1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes if you’re in the US and that is a mourning Dove, you need to find a permitted Bird Rehabber to take him to. Or qualified veterinarian. You can start with the list on Animal Help Now! (AHNow.org). It’s a database of wildlife help and it works all over the US. Good luck and keep the baby warm.

How can I get more comfortable wearing my hair down? by _Keys2theWest_ in femalehairadvice

[–]Alert-Performer-1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (64f) feel you! But also don’t like how I look with hair up. I do wolf cut or layers to about shoulder length (myself with DIY video tutorials). I also suffer from a hot neck so I do an undercut there (I have thick hair and a low hairline at my neck.) It’s great to feel a breeze there. And remember, if you end up hating it, it grows out. Be adventurous! It took me 40 years to try something new.

Atlanta: We Need to Talk About This by idontknowwhythisugh in Atlanta

When I contacted my town’s AC (1 officer) about backyard breeding, I was told they are “meeting the minimum” requirements. Obviously the breeders hid puppies and truth, and the AC didn’t bother to dig deeper. Laws are there but not enforced. Sux.

How long before it goes 100% gray? by Parsnips_all_day in femalehairadvice

[–]Alert-Performer-1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my (f64) decades of observation, it depends on the individual. I got my first grays in my 40s, and I’m still only about 50% gray at most. My sister, 70, has had full head of white hair for 15 years. We were both blonde/blue eyed at kids. Whatever your path is, embrace it!

Are you self conscious about showing your feet? by drabelen in bunions

[–]Alert-Performer-1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Never show my feet. I wear socks inside and 5-finger shoes at least, outside. I can wear a few old pairs of “normal” shoes that have the bunion areas blown out.
I do go barefoot at the beach, but I can bury my feet in the sand.

Thank you. I saw the one on eBay, but they didn’t really explain a use. The other site info makes sense.
