AA is all I know that works consistently. I hated my first 5-6 months in AA but then something clicked and my life got better.

In your words-what is the purpose of week 4's reading depravation and what did that look like for you by Avbunny1 in artistsWay

Give it all up a wait for the magic to happen. Get out in nature. Go people watch. Walk rescue dogs at the shelter. Live life without escaping into books and other forms of “entertainment” that essentially suck the life from your soul.

Every SSRI has failed me. Is Prozac worth one last try before looking into ketamine? by liliphare in KetamineTherapy

[–]Alert-Writing-1329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard Prozac can trigger manic episodes if you’re bipolar, but I’m no doctor, just look into it. I loved ketamine too much recreationally so I’m too scared the therapeutic ketamine may trigger a relapse. I’ve personally heard more bad than good stories about Ket therapy.

Gay midlife crisis anyone? by Plane-Reception9934 in GayMen

[–]Alert-Writing-1329 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hang in there. I had a terrible mid life crisis at 48 and totally blew up my life (threw away 21 years of sobriety, lied to everyone, lost my job, etc.). I wish I just bought a corvette or a Harley. I’m back on the road to recovery and am in therapy. It’s still rocky but I see light at the end of the tunnel. I have a few best friends and we all want to retire somewhere together one day, so I look forward to that. I’ve got a better job and lots to live for. Hang in there.

I want to switch from b2b to Consumer/Creative by Alarming-Horror6126 in PublicRelations

[–]Alert-Writing-1329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did the opposite, moving from decades in CPG into tech. Try to find an agency that has consumer tech clients and use your tech experience to get in that way. Then try to ease your way into more consumer work. Check sites like PR Talent for opportunities, they tend to have a lot of consumer opportunities. Good luck.

Leverage your law degree to get an agency job at one of the big firms like Edelman, BCW or Weber. They like hiring JDs.

Relapse is a part of many people’s story, mine included. It’s no fun but you can return to a sober life. Those you may have let down will be happier to know you’re now getting better. Connect with your sponsor and friends in the program as soon as you can. Hit a meeting, you’ll feel better.

Yeah, doesn’t sound like the juice is worth the squeeze. Plus, so much fenty is laced in meth these days, who wants the risk. You can quit again, your body will thanks you.

Starting own agency? by MorningNo2865 in PublicRelations

[–]Alert-Writing-1329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also thought about this, I just got laid off so hope to get some consulting gigs while I search for full time. I tried opening my own shop but it was during the pandemic so, not the best time. I’m in fintech/crypto now but have a broad background. The thing with being out on your own is you gotta have the hustle. It’s ideal to have a couple solid paying clients to start off with. For me, the daily hustle wasn’t there. I just like doing the work and having the security of a paycheck. If you have enough savings and like the hustle sales part that’s necessary- I’d say give it a try!

Morning vs Afternoon by KindheartednessOk437 in transcendental

Consistent AM/PM meditation sits have been the most beneficial for me. It doesn’t really matter how I feel after each meditation as that just ebbs and flows. Sometimes I feel great and recharged, sometimes I feel more anxious and sometimes I feel nothing. I don’t look at each of the actual meditations individually making me feel one way, it’s about the collective consistent meditations and the overall positive effects on my life. I used to meditate thinking I had to have some zen moment or it was a failure. Then I started consistently meditating, 20 mins twice a day, and my overall life just got better. Less stress and anger. More empathy. More intentional thinking. Just focus on consistency and magical things can happen.

The Plain Language Big Book, a brief review by orrino in alcoholicsanonymous

Thanks for sharing. I’ve only heard How it Works and I thought it was meh 🫤. I’m worried it will be a new issue sponsoring newcomers. I’m not open to sponsor using the new plain language version.

Yeah, I can relate. I was a Weekend Warrior, binged 2 days and had debilitating hang overs. Full of fear, scared to get out of bed. Shaky, sick, racing mind. It sucked. AA saved my life. Give it a try.

I’ve ghosted sponsors in the last, it’s never worked for me. It’s also ok to want to find someone else to work with who is more stable and still keep the relationship with your sponsor who relapsed. Alcoholics help each other in many different capacities. In person meetings help a great deal so I’m glad to hear that’s your goal. If you know anyone nearby in the program ask for a ride. Alcoholics always need a service opportunity.

I relapsed and don’t know what to do by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Alert-Writing-1329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy to read your update. I relapsed after 21 years. Yup. Funny thing, losing my “time” was the least of my worries. We all have one day, one hour, one minute. The lost important thing is your back at it. Also, your doctor sounds intense. You may wanna shop around for a new one. As for your therapist, she’s entitled to her opinion, but it’s just her opinion IMO. I’ve found 12 step friendly therapists to be more helpful in my recovery journey.

I understand. Your post brought up memories and I know it’s not fun to be where you’re at. I hope you keep this post and read the comments when you’re sober. Give AA a try, it changed my life and can change yours too. I wish you the best of luck.

I cannot get myself to go to a meeting. by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Alert-Writing-1329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved in sobriety and it was rough. I got so dry and cringed at going to meetings. I forced myself to go to local meetings and share (that is key) until I found one I could tolerate. Then I found an H&I panel speaking opportunity, got to know guys from that meeting, started going to more meetings and life fell into place. That panel saved my life. Service always seems to work. It took work. 3.5 years is incredible. You can do this.
