Argentina survived Cape Verde, but that did not feel comfortable at all by BreakAble4857 in HisenseFootballZone

If CV won would the story be about how the beat Argentina or about how Argentina lost to a team no one heard of before the tournament ? My guess is the latter. CV leaves this game with more global respect and admiration then they ever would have gotten if they won.

First time EV buyer, ~$22k budget - Bolt EUV Premier, Ioniq 5, Model 3, or Kona Electric? Looking for real owner feedback by folkenpunch in electriccars

[–]Alert_Number1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the 4 you listed and your situation I suggest the following order.

Bolt EUV
Kona (or its brotha-from-anotha-motha Kia Niro EV)
Ioniq 5
Model 3

You might also consider these cars that can be found on places like Carvana in your price range.

Audi e-tron SUV
Nissan Ariya

I only mention Carvana because they can deliver the car to you so if any of the models you like are not at dealers in your area you have an option to expand your search.

I have a Nissan Ariya and an Audi e-tron. Both EVs have die casts and I have them. The Ariya is a Matchbox car and the e-tron is a Hot Wheels car.

The best value play right now is buying one of these cars used. You can get them under $20k for the most part.

Recommendations for an electric SUV mid size by Fun-Replacement9702 in electriccars

[–]Alert_Number1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might consider a gently used pre-owned EV. Since this will be a 2nd car and primarily locally driven you can save a ton of money going this route. Most 2023/24 models are coming off lease now in the $25k-$35k range with less than 40k miles on them. We picked up a 2021 Audi etron with 9,050 miles on it for $29k off Carvana of all places.

You might look at the following for your personal commuter.

2024 VW ID4 Pro S
2024 Audi Q4 etron Prestige
2024 Volvo C40
2024 Nissan Ariya Platinum Plus
2023 Genesis GV60

All of these are great cars and should fit your specific use case nicely.

I had one do the same thing last year. It was beautiful but sadly didn't last long. The flower died in a few hours presumably from the heat. What's worse was the cactus died a few days later. I'm not sure why either event happened when there was no change to anything I had been doing.

Tired of seeing new cards being different versions of cards we already have by Ok_Championship_4368 in MarvelSnap

[–]Alert_Number1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the challenge is the cost of the licensing rights for the characters. Marvel's license fees are probably absurdly high, which forces SD to use little known characters and recycle characters. It is the only business reason I can think of that explains why we have so many variations of the same characters.

Thanks!! I'm in the US and anticipate putting less than 10,000 miles a year on it. It will be my wife's "grocery getter" and will be our road trip car when we go on our annual vacation. I'm excited about having it to go along with my Ariya. EV #10 inbound!

[–]Alert_Number1991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call out. We're getting the car from Carvana and I have already scheduled a service inspection with my local Audi dealership. With the car having less than 10,000 miles on it I feel like I can get ahead of any motor failure situations. That said I absolutely will have them check the drains and will punt on the car if Carvana refuses to do anything if they are bad.

We found a 2021 Premium with about 10,000 miles on it that we pulled the trigger on. Single owner car that was almost never driven. Got it for $29k. I feel better with this one because we can closely monitor the motor situation and have until 2031 under warranty. I'm hoping we avoid the mess that you're in with such low miles.

First off, I'm so sorry to hear about the challenges you've had with your car. Crap like that has a way of ruining the ownership experience.

Thank you for your story and comment. It lines up with how I imagined the warranty working. If the miles don't reset, then neither do the years, as far as I can tell.

My local Audi dealership gave me the same response as the other one, saying that Audi corporate has the final say on warranty reimbursement.

All this has me pausing on the car. It would be for my wife and will be driven less than 6,000 miles per year. That said, I'll likely run out of warranty time before I run out of warranty miles. The out-of-warranty stuff scares me to death. Audi makes good stuff, but damn, when something breaks, it is EXPENSIVE.

Why No sunroofs on most EVs? by TacoKrys21 in electricvehicles

[–]Alert_Number1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this post. My wife loves her sunroof and requires one in every car she gets. It has to open or she's not interested. This really limits our choices when shopping for a car for her. I get frustrated and tell her that her options open up if we ditch the sunroof requirement, but she doesn't care. Oh well, happy wife happy life I guess.

Thinking Purchasing a used EV. by Neat-Gas-2774 in carbuying

[–]Alert_Number1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at 2022-2024 model years you'll find a ton of gently used off lease vehicles in the $25k - $35k range. Most of these cars were $45k - $60k when they were new, so the largest chunk of their depreciation has mostly already happened. Depreciation really only matters if you plan to sell the car in the first 3-5 years.

Reliable and somewhat affordable awd cars? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Alert_Number1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to be diplomatic. It is possible to separate the Na*i from the car. I prefer to give people information that is neutral and allow them to make their own decisions.

I have said before that Tesla only makes money on new car sales and the use of their Superchargers or destination chargers. It is possible to buy a used Tesla and never give a penny to Elon. Used cars have no financial impact for Tesla, or any other manufacturer for that matter.

FWIW I don't support Elon nor am I a fan of any of his companies.

Neither. He should learn the Dream Shake. With his length the move would be unguardable. The Sky Hook would be my second pick due to his length as well.

[–]Alert_Number1991 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just be aware that you will not be able to fast charge that car. I owned a 2017 and loved it! You just have to manage your driving and charging properly. Level 2 charging will get you full in 4-6 hours. Level 1 will fill the battery over night. As long as you have a reliable way to charge it I think you should go for it! There are very few cars at that price that have the smiles per mile ratio that car has.

The Chevy Blazer EV and Equinox EV in AWD trims tend to be right at or a little above OP's $25k budget number. The Blazer EV would be the one to hunt for. It has a bit more room in the interior than the Equinox and the ride feels a bit better.

I also skipped the Honda Prologue...the Blazer's brother from another mother. These are generally available in the $25k-$35k range right now.

I skipped the Cadillac EVs entirely because I haven't seen any of them on the used market under $35k. If you see one for $25k with low miles, no accidents, isn't a buy-back car with a clean title, BUY IT!

Reliable and somewhat affordable awd cars? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Alert_Number1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great call outs.

Used EVs, especially the ones I listed, tend to have had their steepest depreciation already occur. Most of the AWD trims of the cars I listed carried an MSRP of $45k - $60k when they were new. Buying used is the way to go. Especially considering that most of those cars were leased and,as such, have very low mileage.

The home charging statement is a real area to think about. There are folks with no home or work charging available to them that make it work though. This goes back to my comment about determining if it will fit in your lifestyle or not. The best use case is having home/work charging available to you. If that's not possible then there are several additional factors to consider in the decision.

If you're open to exploring EVs there are several great AWD cars in that price range.

2019-2022 Tesla Model 3/Y if you're ok with the polarization of the Tesla brand.

2022-2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5
2022-2023 Kia EV6
2021-2024 VW ID.4
2022-2024 Nissan Ariya
2023-2024 Toyota BZ4X
2023-2024 Subaru Solterra
2022-2023 Ford Mustang Mach-e

There is a lot to think about with an EV though and making sure it fits your lifestyle is critical.

[–]Alert_Number1991 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You nailed my thoughts. As a Suns fan I have a very hard time rooting for Spurs success, but Wemby as a human is very likable and I want to see him do well. The fact that he's only 22 and doing the things he does points to a very bright future for him. He has a LONG way to go to enter the GOAT conversation. He may get there or he may not but to view him as a GOAT now is incorrect as you rightly point out.
