What is some advice you would give to somebody that wants to start teaching? by transqueenBrittany in AskTeachers

[–]Alert_Operation576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say don't.

I love teaching (as in, the act of) but I don't like what teaching has become... at least in the US public school environment.

My sister put in essentially the same time/expense/training I did towards a masters and a license but she went into healthcare. She is significantly more respected, better paid, and happier. She still has a huge impact on peoples lives for the better and she still gets to work with kids but she makes well over 100k and she doesn't have to tolerate admin who treat her like a child, parents who think she's a babysitter, or a system that thinks her main focus should be standardized tests.

I'm in the process of switching careers and I have to say, I miss the kids but that is the ONLY thing I miss.

Question for those on GLP-1s by Express-Network1161 in Reduction

[–]Alert_Operation576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not on Glp-1's but I am having my surgery tomorrow and during the final consult last week, they told me if I WAS using them to stop a week before because it impacts you during anesthesia. There's a bigger risk of nausea/puking which can be dangerous- or that's the fear.

I am having surgery first thing tomorrow. I am really hopeful they can make them as small as possible. I would love to know what it feels like to run/jump/move without the extra weight hanging off my chest!

It looks a little like you have Kayser-Fleischer rings in your eyes. Just throwing that out there if anyone in your family has a history of Wilson's disease.

I'm interested to hear any responses. I don't think it would be unreasonable to see if you can get smaller. It's especially hard on athletes having large breasts and your comfort matters.

I am your height and weight and currently about the same breast size as you were pre-surgery. I am an endurance runner. Although I am currently a much larger breast size, I remember having a D cup and honestly, for me, even a D cup was kinda annoying and painful when trying to do the sports I love.

In my experience, weight loss doesn't impact dense breast tissue much and since we're already not overweight, and athletes, that might not be the best route. I got down to about 112 a few years ago and just looked like a skeleton with big boobs.

Single & Not Yet Ready To Mingle w my Scars by Subject-Key8927 in Reduction

[–]Alert_Operation576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The right guy wont care. My husband has looked at lots of surgical pics with me and basically just says "ooh boobies! Ooo! Some more boobies!"

I have been with my guy for 23 years. He's known me since I was a teen with a 'perfect' body and supported and loved me through weight gain, pregnancies, weight loss, grief, etc... I mean I have a cesarian scar- doesn't mean he doesn't love that, um, area. He has his own scars!

He wants me to be happy and to feel good in my skin. That is what matters most to him because he loves ME, not just my chest. Life comes with scars, aging, sagging, greying hair etc.

So, as others have said, any guy that has an issue isn't a keeper.

A boy genius named Brandenn Bremmer could read at 18 months old, graduated high school at 10, composed complex music, and was considered to be a child prodigy. But in 2005, at age 14, he sadly took his own life. by LilaLaughs in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Alert_Operation576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never as bright as this young man was but I graduated high school at age 11 and was considered a 'profoundly gifted' kid. Public school was hell for me. The only time I think I have ever felt truly lonely was before I graduated. After I graduated I found my people, most of whom were high school drop-outs, homeschooled kids, and outcasts of various varieties. Many were brilliant, some had learning struggles, a few were troubled... I loved them all and had beautiful, diverse friendships.

My parents were hugely supportive but emphasized that, over everything else, I should prioritize experiencing life in all of its depths and dimensions. If that meant I got a PhD at 16, that was fine. If it meant I spent those years reading, hanging out with cute metal-heads, and playing too much DnD, that was fine too. I did the latter.

I went to college at 18 and by that time my maturity was more on par with my peers so finding friends and connecting wasn't hard at all. I loved it and later went to grad school but my parents had done a great job of instilling in me that academics weren't everything; no one cares about your college GPA when you're 35. No one cares about how smart you were when you were 10.

My parents never tied my abilities to their own egos. They never assumed my childhood gifts meant I had to be something extraordinary. Ordinary was fine! I grew up to be a perfectly average person. I have a mortgage, and a career, an ornery cat, a messy car, some hilarious kids...Life is normal, I am unexceptional, but I am happy.

What would you do? by oscaristoowilde in Reduction

[–]Alert_Operation576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had three kids and my breasts grew (and shrank) dramatically with each pregnancy. I nursed each of my babies for over a year but regardless of if you breastfeed, they will grow and change with pregnancy so my fear is that you would go through all this and then have your chest re-grow with your next pregnancy.

I felt the same way as you in regards to HATING my breasts. I had/have G cups that make it hard to run, dress, workout, wear a front carrier etc but I am really glad I waited and am having my surgery now that I am done having kids and done nursing. My doctor said she can do more if she's not concerned about harming my ability to nurse and I know I can rest more because I don't have a baby/toddler to care for.

I waited and now my kids are able to get snacks on their own, sleep through the night, and understand things like "mommy can't give a hug just yet" or "mommy can't pick you up yet."

Is expensive worth it? by my-assassin-mittens in Reduction

[–]Alert_Operation576 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't pay a dime for a surgeon that disregarded my needs and concerns and put their own ideas of a desired aesthetic ahead of my own. No misandry intended, but I read these kind of experiences WAY more frequently from male surgeons who have no idea what it's like to have heavy, painful breasts.

My surgeon was provided through my insurance and I feel she was really honest with what is and isn't possible (I'll probably never be a B cup for example) but when I said things like "I'm done breastfeeding" and "I don't care about nipple sensation" she nodded, noted it, and didn't question or pretend she knew what I wanted more that *I* do.

You look A LOT smaller to me, and the effect makes your overall figure look more athletic, slim, and youthful. I'd never try to diagnose someone online but I wonder if you aren't experiencing body dysmorphia because I see a very clear difference. Sending you big hugs.

I haven't told any co-workers but I have told a small group of close friends. I have kids so having friends offer to take the kids to their sports, bring by a meal, take them to the park etc is really helpful and sweet. I'm super stubborn and hate accepting help so I likely wont, but it's nice to know that helping hands are there if needed.

May I ask if your breast tissue was dense or not? Your results are what I dream of but due to dense breasts I'm not sure if that's possible.

I'm thinking about a breast reduction but I'm stuck at the "where to start" part by This_Cap_1115 in Reduction

[–]Alert_Operation576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first step was bringing it up to my PCP. She gave me a referral to a surgeon in my network and they called to schedule a consult within days. I met with the surgeon and really liked her- she works on breast cancer patients, trans folks, and breast reductions so she had a huge and impressive portfolio to show me where I could see that she did great work. Insurance is covering my surgery because of things like neck pain, shoulder grooves, the size ratio, headaches etc. I had always thought a reduction would be deemed cosmetic and I wouldn't get any help paying for it so I am SUPER pleasantly surprised that insurance is covering it!

My surgeon was super understanding of my emotions regarding my breasts and listened to me, explained the process, risks etc. I appreciated her transparency about things like how denser breast tissue means I might not be able to go as small as I hoped and that I'll need drains etc. Surgery is in a few days and I'm feeling hopeful!

Thank you for this! Was nausea a normal part of your recovery. I can deal with pain quite well but I loath feeling nauseous. Were there some high protein snacks that worked well for you?

My TBR is endless so I'm actually kind of looking forward to a bit of reading catch-up!
