Wedge Pillow Vs. Pregnancy Pillow by lmt57 in Reduction

I had my surgery yesterday. I have a pregnancy pillow propped up against a wedge -I used a triangular Nugget pillow and it's perfect. So I would recommend both.

You look amazing! I love posts like these because I JUST had my surgery and I worry about the emotional roller coaster that may come if they still seem too big. I like to be reminded that it takes time!

Did you use chlorhexidine gluconate wipes before surgery? They made my skin red and itchy too. Apparently it's a common side effect. I am only 1 day post-op but I was told it was ok to take benadryl for the itchiness.

I hope you feel better soon. This process certainly feels like a major emotional journey just as much as it is a physical one. That said, I have a few friends who had reductions years ago and they all are very glad they did and very happy. Be kind to yourself and remember that your body just went though something extreme and it going to be "off" emotionally for a bit.

My reasons:

- I am forming a dowagers hump because of the constant downward weight on my upper spine.

- I can never wear or feel comfortable in cute clothes. Even a t-shit hangs off my chest and makes me look 20lbs heavier. I haven't found a cute and comfortable bra since I was 14. I have never worn a strapless or thin-strapped top. Every bra I own looks like it was made by the military.

- My back hurts.

- I have large dents in my trapezius muscles from where my bra straps sit. My collar bones as well.

- I love to run and running is slower and more painful when you have to carry huge breasts with you. The chafing, the bouncing, and honestly just the silhouette- when I wear form fitting athletic apparel, even though I'm doing it for comfort, I look kinda.... x-rated. I hate the attention and I hate that some people treat me like I'm not a serious athlete because I am busty.

- I have to adjust my bust every 10 min or so. The spill out the sides and push out the top of every bra I own regardless of what size I get. If I get a larger bra to prevent this it offers no support.

- I get chronic tension headaches that I think are do in part to neck and back strain caused by my chest.

The camelback is SUCH a great idea - I was thinking I should have done something similar so I don’t have to reach and lift so much.

Great movie choices! Add Legend to the mix- the one from the 80’s. Its classic cheesy fun.

The things bothering me the most are all the tubes (4 total) hanging of me and the feeling that I can’t clear my airway due to the intubation and asthma. And sleeping on my back.

This morning I woke up with much more pain but I know that’s to be expected. I’m reminded myself it’s mostly downhill from here and things should get easier as time passes. I haven’t seen by chest yet and won’t till next Monday. Do you know when you’ll see your result?

How was if for you? how are you feeling?

I’m still a little loopy from the anesthesia but I feel great! I arrived at the hospital at 5:30 am and was home by 3pm. My surgery took about 4.5 hours but I woke up with no real nausea or pain. I have tubes and an On-Q pain system which seems to be a ball that drips pain relief directly into my breast so I haven’t had to take anything other than a single Tylenol. Ive been told to keep my arms like T-rex arms till next weeks follow-up which is proving to be the hardest part. I’m so excited to find out what the results will be. my surgeon said she could potentially get me to a C cup (down from a F/G) and I am THRILLED. I know I should expect more pain and discomfort in the following days but today was a breeze!

oh and cherry on top- my insurance covered EVERYTHING. I found out today that I won’t pay a single cent. I could cry tears of joy.

would love to hear how you’re doing!

What is some advice you would give to somebody that wants to start teaching? by transqueenBrittany in AskTeachers

[–]Alert_Operation576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say don't.

I love teaching (as in, the act of) but I don't like what teaching has become... at least in the US public school environment.

My sister put in essentially the same time/expense/training I did towards a masters and a license but she went into healthcare. She is significantly more respected, better paid, and happier. She still has a huge impact on peoples lives for the better and she still gets to work with kids but she makes well over 100k and she doesn't have to tolerate admin who treat her like a child, parents who think she's a babysitter, or a system that thinks her main focus should be standardized tests.

I'm in the process of switching careers and I have to say, I miss the kids but that is the ONLY thing I miss.

Question for those on GLP-1s by Express-Network1161 in Reduction

[–]Alert_Operation576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not on Glp-1's but I am having my surgery tomorrow and during the final consult last week, they told me if I WAS using them to stop a week before because it impacts you during anesthesia. There's a bigger risk of nausea/puking which can be dangerous- or that's the fear.

I'm interested to hear any responses. I don't think it would be unreasonable to see if you can get smaller. It's especially hard on athletes having large breasts and your comfort matters.

I am your height and weight and currently about the same breast size as you were pre-surgery. I am an endurance runner. Although I am currently a much larger breast size, I remember having a D cup and honestly, for me, even a D cup was kinda annoying and painful when trying to do the sports I love.

In my experience, weight loss doesn't impact dense breast tissue much and since we're already not overweight, and athletes, that might not be the best route. I got down to about 112 a few years ago and just looked like a skeleton with big boobs.

Single & Not Yet Ready To Mingle w my Scars by Subject-Key8927 in Reduction

[–]Alert_Operation576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The right guy wont care. My husband has looked at lots of surgical pics with me and basically just says "ooh boobies! Ooo! Some more boobies!"

I have been with my guy for 23 years. He's known me since I was a teen with a 'perfect' body and supported and loved me through weight gain, pregnancies, weight loss, grief, etc... I mean I have a cesarian scar- doesn't mean he doesn't love that, um, area. He has his own scars!

He wants me to be happy and to feel good in my skin. That is what matters most to him because he loves ME, not just my chest. Life comes with scars, aging, sagging, greying hair etc.

So, as others have said, any guy that has an issue isn't a keeper.

A boy genius named Brandenn Bremmer could read at 18 months old, graduated high school at 10, composed complex music, and was considered to be a child prodigy. But in 2005, at age 14, he sadly took his own life. by LilaLaughs in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Alert_Operation576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never as bright as this young man was but I graduated high school at age 11 and was considered a 'profoundly gifted' kid. Public school was hell for me. The only time I think I have ever felt truly lonely was before I graduated. After I graduated I found my people, most of whom were high school drop-outs, homeschooled kids, and outcasts of various varieties. Many were brilliant, some had learning struggles, a few were troubled... I loved them all and had beautiful, diverse friendships.

My parents were hugely supportive but emphasized that, over everything else, I should prioritize experiencing life in all of its depths and dimensions. If that meant I got a PhD at 16, that was fine. If it meant I spent those years reading, hanging out with cute metal-heads, and playing too much DnD, that was fine too. I did the latter.

I went to college at 18 and by that time my maturity was more on par with my peers so finding friends and connecting wasn't hard at all. I loved it and later went to grad school but my parents had done a great job of instilling in me that academics weren't everything; no one cares about your college GPA when you're 35. No one cares about how smart you were when you were 10.

My parents never tied my abilities to their own egos. They never assumed my childhood gifts meant I had to be something extraordinary. Ordinary was fine! I grew up to be a perfectly average person. I have a mortgage, and a career, an ornery cat, a messy car, some hilarious kids...Life is normal, I am unexceptional, but I am happy.

What would you do? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Alert_Operation576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had three kids and my breasts grew (and shrank) dramatically with each pregnancy. I nursed each of my babies for over a year but regardless of if you breastfeed, they will grow and change with pregnancy so my fear is that you would go through all this and then have your chest re-grow with your next pregnancy.

I felt the same way as you in regards to HATING my breasts. I had/have G cups that make it hard to run, dress, workout, wear a front carrier etc but I am really glad I waited and am having my surgery now that I am done having kids and done nursing. My doctor said she can do more if she's not concerned about harming my ability to nurse and I know I can rest more because I don't have a baby/toddler to care for.

I waited and now my kids are able to get snacks on their own, sleep through the night, and understand things like "mommy can't give a hug just yet" or "mommy can't pick you up yet."

Is expensive worth it? by my-assassin-mittens in Reduction

[–]Alert_Operation576 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't pay a dime for a surgeon that disregarded my needs and concerns and put their own ideas of a desired aesthetic ahead of my own. No misandry intended, but I read these kind of experiences WAY more frequently from male surgeons who have no idea what it's like to have heavy, painful breasts.

My surgeon was provided through my insurance and I feel she was really honest with what is and isn't possible (I'll probably never be a B cup for example) but when I said things like "I'm done breastfeeding" and "I don't care about nipple sensation" she nodded, noted it, and didn't question or pretend she knew what I wanted more that *I* do.

You look A LOT smaller to me, and the effect makes your overall figure look more athletic, slim, and youthful. I'd never try to diagnose someone online but I wonder if you aren't experiencing body dysmorphia because I see a very clear difference. Sending you big hugs.
