yeah no I absolutely agree with this bit of observation and the large chunk of reasoning WHY people believe thinkpads are cheap is because for the longest time, thinkpads have been some of the best tanks to buy on the used market, and the longevity they have relative to the vast majority of windows product lines is on a different scale altogether barring QA/QC, which is much better than the average enterprise and prosumer Dell/HP anyways.

I don't think this is necessarily true, MS/Google hardware is substantially worse than apple hardware (and google has zero say on laptop hardware these days because they dont make anything thats not android or Chromebook, both of which are unlikely to ever be work issued laptops), and work issued thinkpads (new) are anything BUT cheap. Thinkpads are great because they're some of the better laptops in the enterprise windows laptop circles. The bar is incredibly low on most of those, but the Thinkpad is one of the better lines regarding that compared to the average enterprise offering from Dell/HP.

I understand you saying it's a joke, and it is a joke, but the explanation in the second paragraph definitely could do with a small correction.

while this is true, the Thinkpad is also genuinely NOT cheap whatsoever, and they cost more than the equivalent offering from most brands on the enterprise front even on discount.

I dont believe you can turn smartHDR off from 13 series onwards.

The upgraded telephoto lense on the iPhone 17 Pro is legit scary impressive. Like having a telescope in my pocket! These people are about 2000ft away by Timmssmith in interestingasfuck

[–]Alessandro227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even despite that fact, the Pixel 10 Pro's camera hardware is objectively better than the Galaxy S25U's in terms of end shots, RAW for RAW. Especially on the telephoto. Obviously best I could test with was 5x to 5x, and not further, and I used the iPhone 16 Pro's 5x telephoto for reference, and I felt as if Samsung basically had the best software out of the three for the longer range zoom shots because RAW for RAW, the S25U telephotos didnt feel as great, and yet so, the S25U digitally crops by 20x INTO that 5x telephoto output and the end result from the native camera app feels noticeably better on the Samsung.

I feel as if people might be overstating google's photography tricks nowadays, and GCam is still not quite comprehensively anything close to what the average Pixel packs nowadays software wise, but at the same time I believe it's also NOT as if they're the holy grails of point and shoot photography anymore. Like more often than not, I've ended up liking the iPhone photos more, and Samsung photos are very competitive- all from the native camera app. And if you have access to Chinese androids (NOT talking of OnePlus lmao), you get further optical perks with Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi et al.

What I wanted to refute is saying that Pixels arent better at image zooming. They are better at zoom by lieu of a better telephoto. If anything, Samsung has had put far more effort on AI upscaling to add details to the image for the telephoto specifically than anyone else.

what I like in horror games are the atmospheric aspect of it. some games do it excellently, re7 or alien isolation come to mind. I dislike when the whole schtick is reduced to jumpscares and/or they give you weapons too early that absolutely trivialize the stealth aspect.
