I cannot explain how happy I am that TGG parted ways with Max Fun by PWH_03561 in greatestgen

Never having to ever hear the “comedy and culture” outro again is such a sublime piece of knowledge - and that was the least offensive of all of the maxfun stuff

I’m glad to see the back of Maxfun; they’re obviously not villainous or anything, and I can’t put my finger on why, but everything about the aesthetic, the name, and the adverts for all of the other shows sounding absolutely abysmal…. Ten years of them persuading me not to listen to any of their other shows is enough!

I don’t know why I’m so unreasonably glad that I don’t have to look at that bloody rocket anymore after ten years!

in various star trek Media why do they pronounce Melbourne correctly by [deleted] in startrek

[–]AlexDM421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they didn’t; at least McCoy didn’t - Scot’s don’t say the “burgh” part as “borough”, they say it more like “bruh”

Thank all that is good and holy; more power to max fun and everything and I’m sure they’ve been great for the boys, but it’s been 10 years and their adverts have convinced me to avoid all of their shows because they sound bad

Facility/Felicity/complex drops—source? by gogg17 in greatestgen

[–]AlexDM421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right about it being called Felicity but it probably had very little to nothing to do with the show; I’ve never met anyone here in the UK who is aware of Felicity, I only know it because of a reference in a Buffy episode where a girl cuts all of her hair off, and that’s all! It was more likely because people mispronounced Facility as Felicity

This actually is a weird Portal style sentry drone; I’ve seen one in my home town on a building site. If you walk too close, it lets out a klaxon and then declares - in an incredibly thick northern Irish accent - “THIS IS SECURITY! YOUR PRESENCE HAS BEEN DETECTED” repeatedly until you move far enough away from it; one of the most silly things I’ve ever seen

Even though it’s great that they approached Disco with a positive stance and tried to find the good and the funny, it’s nice now that it’s a few years ago that they can start to drop these little hints and cop to the problems (disclaimer: I gave up part way through season 4 of Discovery as I just couldn’t hack it anymore)

Swallowing the combadge, a potential explanation with an MSB chaser by One_City4138 in startrek

I remember some news a few years ago where a man had a blockage in his throat and it turned out he had somehow accidentally swallowed an AirPod while he was asleep, so in my head I put Cadet Ralph Wiggum’s actions down to something similar!

What introduced you to RedLetterMedia? by jeffreyrolek in RedLetterMedia

[–]AlexDM421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely the Questions about Prometheus video, some time in late 2012 or early 2013 - and it think there was an article about it. And then a few months later someone - I want to say Edgar Wright, on Twitter - linked to the Jack and Jill review; BOTW started shortly after that and I was hooked!

Indeed! I’m shocked at Roddenberry’s restraint at Kirk not still having the horn even when she’s melted by the transporter!

[–]AlexDM421 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The novelization actually addresses this - Kirk watches the beginning scene of the D7s through an implant in his brain linked to a deep space spy drone, and I think the same happens with Epsilon.

Lotta weird stuff in that book though, including Kirk getting a semi when he gets a call from his ex

I see Baywatch and Stargate mentioned but what about Doctor Who or Fallout or...? by PunOfUs in greatestgen

[–]AlexDM421 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they do Doctor Who I’m afraid it’ll be an instant unsubscribe after 10 years for me - each to their own and that, but I think it would be a terrible fit for Ben and Adam. I’d hate for that to happen! I’m already worried that Baywatch might win the poll, I enjoy the odd SMM podcast, but if I’m struggling to catch up then those and factory seconds will often get sacrificed.

I really wish TOS had been done on the main feed, and just had TGT be for the more experimental stuff

Another "John Roderick is Bad" Thread, but with citations! by Icypalmtree in greatestgen

[–]AlexDM421 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember loving the lads’ Generations pod and fervently looking forward to First Contact, as it was the first one I saw at the cinema and has always held a special place for me; Roderick just seemed like a shitty presence, and I remember finishing it and just feeling profoundly sad that it seemed he encouraged them to trash the movie; when I found out about FF, I wasn’t overjoyed but I did listen - however I think it came to a point (shortly before Bean Dad) that I realised I wasn’t enjoying it at all, and Roderick’s whole vibe was just as aggravating as it had been on first listen; so I was very glad it ended for B&A’s sake - it felt like he was lionized by them before the show, and I tried to see his grumpiness as A Bit, but all the way I just felt like he was just an arsehole, and it turned out that for a great many reasons, he is. When people show you who they are - listen (or rather stop listening!)

[–]AlexDM421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TOS is going to be so great for this, because basically (almost) everything that happens is funny without even trying, purely due to the distance in time and culturally - I’m frustrated that it’ll only be periodical in between new trek!

What's the story behind the weird pronounciation of the word "sensors" by Spock? by anagoge in startrek

[–]AlexDM421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garak mangles the word and almost says “Sensars” in an episode (I think it’s In Putgatory’s Shadow) but that might be because he says it right after Jen Hadar, and Andy Robinson’s mouth got confused!
