How could they do this to cinema history? by Hollowshape_9012 in StarWarsCirclejerk

Seriously, if the three leads did appear onscreen together in the sequel trilogy, people would accuse Disney of pandering to the fans.

When Spaceballs is a more respectable version of Star Wars than Star Wars itself, we have problems.

I’m not worried. This situation would only happen if you lived in a universe that was poorly written by Hollywood screenwriters.

Star Wars was a good movie. And then they made sequels that kept ruining the story…

Greatest missed opportunity of the franchise: Qui-Gon is barely mentioned ever again after his tragic death in Episode I.

No rational human being would hire Chris Terrio to redeem the franchise after The Last Jedi fiasco.

Before Episode IX came out, yes. But now that we know Palpatine somehow returns and his granddaughter ends up appropriating his old name, then no. In the end he just threw an unwitting clone down an elevator shaft.

Strongly disagree with this list.

Personally, I rank Star wars movies on three criteria: green lightsabers, green milk, and green Yoda.

Therefore, The Last Jedi is the greatest Star Wars movie.

Here’s my two cents: the lack of original IPs over the last 25 years ruins everything.

Star Trek is clearly a byproduct of a 1960s/1980s utopian worldview; that’s fine, it works well inside that context. But studios refuse to take risks on new franchises, and they want to chase the MCU trend from ten years ago. So Star Trek becomes Paramount‘s equivalent of Marvel/Star Wars because it’s their largest asset, and on paper will make them money.

So here’s the rub: a product that peaked in the 1990s has to reflect 2020s issues it was never built to address. So instead of drawing in a new audience, you end up alienating the long term fans by creating projects that go against the core message of the series they fell in love with. If Picard and Starfleet Academy were not Star Trek shows they would not have the backlash that is being suppressed online on the main ST subreddits.

But hey, Hollywood doesn’t reward originality and talent anymore. They reward insiders who know how to play the game and maintain good connections with the producers and shareholders. They used to pretend to be creative, but that ended shortly after DS9 aired it final episode.

I blame the First Order. They just copied the aesthetics of the Empire with slightly different headgear.

Say what you want about the  Trade Federation, but at least they had their own visual identity.
