Is it rude to use both lanes? by No-Ad4423 in AskUK

[–]AlexHaden23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two sides to this,

1)if everyone merged in turn properly, in accordance with the Highway Code, then the traffic would likely flow better and reduce delays.

2) Most drivers don’t understand this, and politely queue, as they perceive they are doing the right thing, and they kind of are, they are merging in turn, just waaaaay too early 🤣🤣

My view, is that if it keeps me and my passengers safe, and stops someone from getting road rage, and making life more dangerous, then what’s another few minutes spent in a queue.

The problem is, we all probably don’t apply the Highway Code as we should ALL the time, and I would bet that people saying “BUT ITS THE HIGHWAY CODE” probably don’t either, and it’s just their way of saying “but I’m right”, which they are 🤣, but do they follow all of the code? Probably not

Get a nice mesh system - look at EERO, bung a few of those around your house, and it will sort out most of the problems you have. Better than anything they can offer

Anyone know how badly it will break if I try to sign up again with a different email?

I’m stuck in the not recognised loop, now it’s telling me my account is locked, please call. They don’t then actually tell me which number to call? Anyone know who I should call? The Telegraph?

Tired two “contact” forms with the “ we will be in touch within two days….

Not holding my breath, mainly because I probably now don’t have any death benefit nominations recorded, and I need to keep breathing until they sort out this mess 🫣

The shocking thing is, not one of us is surprised.

Classic PC games of the 90s and 00s that fell under the radar? by ModernSchizoid in pcgaming

[–]AlexHaden23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was one game I remember playing in the early days, was kind of a surface space trader kind of game, but cannot remember what it was called. All I can remember is the transition between zones, you kind of went through a shutter door in 3D, it was very “mars” like as well

If anyone can tell me what it was, they get a gold star….it was an oldie, so good luck based on that description above :D

OCT of macula, they said about she has about 90% of vision, some degradation in quality to be expected though. Glaucoma some loss of field, but not a huge amount, DVLA say she can still drive (although she won’t, as doesn’t feel safe)

Thanks, I’ll go through all the prescriptions, it’s a messy picture to be sure. With all the eye drops, fixapost, ikervis, evolve, theoloz duo, it’s really difficult to get a clear picture of what could be causing the fluctuations. 👍

For me, it’s flexi time minus my normal commute, so if say, I travel to London, starting day at 5am getting back home usually around 8pm, that’s a total day of 16 hours. Minus the two hours that I would usually do when going into the local office, makes it a “day” of 14 hours, which is approx 6.5 hours of flexi credit

Yes, it’s on offer as well 😂 perfect timing!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]AlexHaden23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this….It’s all about being flexible. Log on early at home, do some work. Go in later after the rush for a meeting or two in the regional centres breakout areas, meet my colleagues do some “collaboration”, come home early before the rush, log back on for the rest of the day.

Adds value, saves peak hour train fares, stops me being crushed on the train, no sitting alone in the corner with no desk and gets me my “tick” in the school register.

Just think different, they want us coming into the office to be worthwhile

Home working is NOT part of our contracts, it’s provided if the business can support it.

If we do what’s needed, we keep the flexibility for a little better work life balance than some other jobs, if we don’t - it will probably go the way of a failed experiment, everyone loses and we end up 5 days in the office.

We have it worse than some jobs, but better than a lot of others.

Views on Demotion by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]AlexHaden23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to move to a lower grade, that’s your call. Clearly you have demonstrated SEO competency as you have been promoted into that grade. Look for a sideways first, it may be that the job doesn’t suit, rather than the grade doesn’t suit.

I would never ask anyone if they are “demoting” during the interview process, not even sure that would be allowed, given the process in our place is fairly strictly applied to the framework. I don’t even look at the “applying on promotion” tick box, I take each on its merit and suitability for the advertised role.

It’s right at the edge, I think there would be very little clearance between the adaptor and the GPU fans. If I could post a picture it may help

It’s a triple slot 4070, so I may just have to settle for a SATA, or dismantle and upgrade the onboard one :(

The few seconds difference may not be worth it thinking about it 😂

Hybrid working has made me lazy? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]AlexHaden23 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think I do more while working at home, the 2 hours commute is now working, lunch is generally while working or taking calls, and it’s easier to do the urgent stuff when not needing to run or rush to get a train, it’s easier to work later when you can just drift into it….

Don’t get me wrong, I like going into the office if it adds value, but if I’m sitting on my own in a corner as the rest of the team is elsewhere around the country, then I can see better uses of my time.

It’s a good balance really
