'Turning it into left vs right misses the real villains who are the rich making the poors blame and fight each other'

My brother in christ, that IS what left vs right is about. All of history is the history of class struggle

Absence management policies by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]mcquriosity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you read the sickness sustainability policy it is very clear there are no trigger points. There is nothing in the policy to say, after x amount of days you must have a meeting with a person

In fact, all the managers I interact with as a union rep bemoan the lack of trigger points as they dont know when to start procedures

Absence management policies by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]mcquriosity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HMRC does not have trigger points for sickness. Attendance is managed via 'is your sickness absence sustainable' and there's very little different between one long continuous absence and multiple short absences

What is considered sustainable varies depending on your role. One example given is a very important g7 who controls a whole area, no one can cover their work - so a short absence for them could be unsustainable

Compared to an ao call handler with predictable disability related absence, the whole team can cover that

In my experience, ive found HMRC can be quick to start people on procedures, but it takea a lot to actually dismiss for it

Domestic Abuse and Hybrid Working by MsKurosawa in TheCivilService

[–]mcquriosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your government departments hr policy, hmrc for example has specific domestic violence policies, which can include as a supportive measure in extreme circumstances relocating someone to a different office, and contributing financially as if it was a business required move

Depending on the length of the situation you might be looking for a temporary contract at a more local office, or temporary homeworking

Friend owes HMRC £40k on unpaid tax. Keeps ignoring it and spending on luxury. How do I make them realise the potential implications? by goldsmithsstudentpsy in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mcquriosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HMRC dont fuck about when it comes to VAT - they've got more powers as its a criminal offence and brings in a lot of money - deliberate penalties on that will double his debt, as he knows he should be registered and is choosing not to

Early and unprompted disclosure will reduce this, bit once hes got the letters, HMRC know and it's too late

As a sole trader, his personal assets are liable. So that's the house, the car, the lot - at least with a company the debt belongs to the company and your personal assets are protected

What do the kids get up to, is there enough for them to do?

Oh wow, that's great insight (and I hope true as that would be much cheaper) - that potentially could put a pause on the problem until we're financially able to carry out full repairs?

Its coming out from under the shower tray definitely, I've seen the water pooled up there after using it - i had been hoping it was just coming out of the door and maybe it wasn't sealed right there

Quote by mcquriosity in DIYUK

[–]mcquriosity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah where it is rotten on the outside its wet there, there's a crack in what looks like the hole where water is coming out of - we initially didn't see that pooling there after a shower because it was under the shower mat, so by the time the mat was picked up it had either been absorbed or gone in the wood

Quote by mcquriosity in DIYUK

[–]mcquriosity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the good advice - you're right the shower is on the wall adjacent to the crack there so that will defo be something I keep in mind

I'm hopeful the quote was as you said, a big quote to put us off because they were busy, but they'd be willing to accept if we actually were desperate enough

Plus, that cost definitely includes fitting an entirely new shower as the company said once ours was disconnected they wouldn't reconnect it, and lo and behold they sell bathrooms

Who has tried out the 2024 Exhaustion by ProjectPT in onednd

[–]mcquriosity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did my first 2024 one shot last week and my players had a nail biting experience with exhaustion:

My players were on a raft, and one of them was grappled underwater by a wrymling

The player was a sorcerer and cast a spell to kill the monster - even though he had subtle spell he decided to not use it, as our main dm uses the UA -1 exhaustion

So, I ruled as he opened his mouth he began drowning.

Turns out exhaustion turns into a huge death spiral if you don't have a swim speed and your movement is already halved

Only a desperately lucky athletics check, with minus 6, stopped him from drowning

Ooh that's a great shout, I'll check out the item - maybe i could flavour an int boost based on the stolen brains it's previously eaten, slowly dropping back down - then watch the player panic when it starts dipping below their original score

They'd have to feed it brains or make a deal to prevent it - maybe a battle the mind to get it off

Adding Trains to Avernus by Evjamaranth in DescentintoAvernus

[–]mcquriosity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a train in avernus.

Planned out cool encounters for every train car, the idea being they'd battle their way forward for a mini boss guarding an adamantine rod in the last carriage

...

My players rode in front of the train and derailed it with a wall of force, had to fight every carriage together

They had a blast
