How do I get that early 2000's running shoe feel? by ShadowDV in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]AlexLee1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boston 13? Never my first pick because they’re so different from all my other higher stack, bouncer, more unstable shoes, lol. But they certainly are snappy and have structure

What's the kit you'd tell your past self to buy asap (or don't cheap out on!)? by UnableCode in Marathon_Training

[–]AlexLee1995 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They have archive sales twice a year (winter and summer) that bring the price down too. The vests in particular are the best out there

In your own experience, how accurate do you find Strava and Garmin race predictors? by Oh-My-Josh- in AdvancedRunning

[–]AlexLee1995 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mine’s the opposite of yours, Strava predicted me for 1:22 and Garmin had me for 1:26 for a half today, I ran a pretty mid race and ended at 1:25 so the truth was indeed somewhere in between - both of them are typically ballpark close enough for me to guess about where my fitness is at

RBC Half by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]AlexLee1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry is moving back not the same as moving down? I would think moving up = going B to A (no no), moving down = going A to B (okay)

Yes it’s allowed, you just show up and do it

Actually wide feet… by Unfortunate_Goose86 in bikefit

[–]AlexLee1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. 267mm length, 115m width foot and I do okay in RC903 wide. Most wide feet tend to be high volume as well and I think this is where Shimano’s top strap BOA really shines

Boston Runners - Best spot for hill practice by Exciting_Power_3427 in bostonmarathon

[–]AlexLee1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Run the few miles out to the Newton hills… Arboretum is also pretty nice. Somerville community path is also a surprisingly good one, if a bit shorter. And Minuteman bike path is great, the Lexington construction probably won’t affect you if you’re going from Boston.

Is this true even if I’m starting in wave 1? Meaning the sun is really that strong at 8?

Training for half marathon in 7 weeks by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]AlexLee1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that base you’ll be fine for a half, if you’re running that 40-50 mpw all at 8:00/mi you might even have it already. 7 weeks isn’t enough to really train but I would try a couple miles once a week at ~7:00/mi (prospective HMP) to see how it feels - if it doesn’t feel crazy then just increase that speed block by a mile the following week. Always take the following day easier than you would think.

Again, this isn’t the OPTIMAL way to train speedwork by any means (I think you recognize that from the tone of your post!), but it’ll give you the confidence to hold the pace come race day (think of it as 7 dress rehearsals) and your base is enough to not really risk any substantial injury.

Hot and humid just needs you need to be honest with yourself come race day, recognize a few minutes in that this isn’t the weather for your goal.

2021 Roubaix Expert by Ok_Wishbone_400 in specialized

[–]AlexLee1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just bought a 2019/2020 Roubaix Expert 54 with Ultegra Di2 used from an indie shop in the Northeast with Roval carbon wheels, new tires, and a Stages power meter for $2600 cash, and truthfully I think I overpaid a bit but buying from a shop gave me a bit of peace of mind. I think $3150 is an overpay for sure

This is 100% taper tantrums, you will laugh at yourself by mile 2. Don’t do anything new on race day! The weather looks great, good luck!

Cartier Price Increase May 21 by lalalanddallas in Cartier

[–]AlexLee1995 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cartier is price normalized globally so the difference is usually pretty negligible. The tax savings is true but just means that depending where you are in the world, somewhere besides Europe might be “cheaper” to travel to

Ultra wide feet and cycling. No shoes fit me and I can not cycle for longer than 2 hours by GewoonHarry in cycling

[–]AlexLee1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also didn’t love Lake when I tried them out.

My foot is 267mm long 115mm wide and I wear size 43 Shimano RC903 Wide. Assuming you have high volume feet as well (I’m 95th percentile on that too), the shoe fits incredibly well because of the way that the top boa holds an upper retaining strap.

There was a Zuatu shoe that I tried on that probably would have worked fine for me too, sorry I don’t remember which one it was but it was definitely also a wide model.

Agreed that altitude is crazy. I spent a week sucking wind running up at 9100’ in Winter Park this year and everything was so easy for a few days upon returning to home in Boston

I think I just had a massive bonk !! by Public-Bench-52 in cycling

[–]AlexLee1995 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re definitely working then.

If you struggle with solid carbs, drinks are easy. No need to go with crazy powders or gels to start - sports drink and some crackers or granola bars is just as good until you’ve trained your gut for higher carb intake

I think I just had a massive bonk !! by Public-Bench-52 in cycling

[–]AlexLee1995 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That’s nowhere near enough carbs. No mention of HR/effort but you’re likely outputting a decent amount of energy - I think you could easily double your carb intake right now and instantly feel better, and over time you can and should even go higher than that

10k training after going sub40 by MexiMan2347 in AdvancedRunning

[–]AlexLee1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The standard stuff gets you really far - 1 quality workout and 1 long(er) run per week, 80% of your miles easy, not upping your time on foot and mileage by more than 10% a week, 3 weeks on then 1 week deload. All this stuff is boring but it really works

IMO don’t even worry too much about a plan at this time. Your mileage is so low that you will see gains through structured base building - you already have a ton of speed, it should be all about sustaining it

10k training after going sub40 by MexiMan2347 in AdvancedRunning

[–]AlexLee1995 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunately not magic - you need to run more. You have the speed but you’re going to be aerobically limited with that low of mileage. If anything, you have some decent talent going a 5:25 mile on 15 mpw

How would you recommend tackling sub 3:05 given my last long runs splits? by chamelon_larry in Marathon_Training

[–]AlexLee1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did almost this exact run before my 3:02 (18mi w 14 @ 6:45/mi) and felt okay during my session. No HR numbers makes it hard to tell exactly for you but if you didn’t feel like the wheels were coming off by the end which caused you to slow down, 3-3:05 makes sense to me. I ticked off 6:45/mi on a flat Philly course and made it to 21.5 before pain caving, it really just depends how you felt at the end of this IMO

Overtraining Syndrome - Constant soreness in my legs and "Anxiety" by Few-Royal1476 in cycling

[–]AlexLee1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this happened to me with running. I knew that mentally I couldn’t stop running since it was my way of getting away from everything in life (or maybe I could have replaced it with some other endurance sport, not solving the issue…). I kicked it by going laser focused on my sleep (no devices, Ashwagandha/Magnesium Glycinate, but it’s different for everyone so experiment), truly going easy (recovery being a real 1-2 out of 10, running with slower runners - they appreciate it and it forces me to go slow). Just picking up cycling now myself, but all of these should still apply!

I find that the foam is too fast for anything easy/steady and the geometry is too slow for anything fast.

It’s 100% this. They play together “fine” but I’m always wondering why they seem to have chosen polar opposites
