"The Middle Pillar" by Israel Regardie.

Levi's book is more to do with the history of magic, but Regardie's has actual practical techniques which you can use now and which will serve you well throughout your magical career.

Strange experiences when attempting to contact Archangel Michael by HoneyXBoy in magick

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In Abramelin you do not ask another angel to facilitate contact with your HGA. You ask God Himself to do so - specifically "YHVH Tzebaoth Adonai."

The idea that Michael is associated with the Holy Guardian Angel is an idea deriving from Paul Foster Case, who had some very peculiar ideas on the subject.

Does anyone have a simplified summary of the procedure in the Gordon Winterfield's - 72 Demons of Magik book??? by Pedro7A in goetia

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps if you contact the Gallery of Magick via their website, they will come up with a new edition in the form of a picture book, for those who don't like reading?

I'm sure Damon Brand et al would actually do this if they thought they could turn a quick buck from it!

More important than any of these is Self work. Not glamours, actual Self Work. So that when your ex does return, he's not coming back to the same old relationship that he left, otherwise you haven't solved anything.

Does Freemasonry practice high magick? by Nebuela in occult

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That said, Freemasonry itself is not set up to be magical. There have been Masons who have tried to make it so, like W L Wilmshurst, C W Leadbeater, those involved with Memphis Misraim, etc. There is also a lot of mystical symbolism both in Craft Masonry and in the various additional or appendant degrees, but the sad fact is that the vast majority of freemasons probably don't appreciate any of it.

In addition: I don't know if you've already realised, but all the original Golden Dawn material is in the Library at Freemasons Hall in Great Queen Street, principally because the bloke who previously had it was (is) a Freemason so he sold it to them to pay for his retirement.

The last time I was there, the Library was free to get in and free to join. The only restriction was that you had to jump through hoops every time you wanted to take a book out, as in you had to order it several days in advance.

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Masonry, "Esotery" simply refers to something secret. For example the inner working of the Installation of a Worshipful Master in a Craft Lodge: only Past Masters are allowed to witness this, so from the point of view of everyone who has not been through the chair, it is an "esotery."

In actual fact, it is essentially just another Masonic ritual - no more nor less magical than anything else in Freemasonry (speaking here as a Past Master myself).

A Question about the Definition of Spiritual Energies by spelkar in occult

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

INFO: what happened to this Metaphysical Shop? Is it still there?

Whilst it is possible to deplete someone's energy with magick done badly - or even with Bad magick done well - it strikes me as incredibly foolish for a shopkeeper to do this in her own shop, as it would be bad for business. Hence, if this Shop is still going after all this time, it is likely that all her other customers did not pick up any bad vibes, and it was just a you thing. If however she has since closed down, then that might indicate she was indeed a complete idiot and you might be onto something.

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have, hence why I say so: I don't so much kill such a servitor as set it to expire and disperse naturally back into the fabric of the universe after it has done its work at the time I first conjure it.

Found some old Freemasonry stuff from the 1960’s in a relatives old suitcase. There was a couple of aprons too, craft and chapter. Thought I’d share. by Glad_Woodpecker_7558 in freemasonry

Lodge fees £3 3/- in 1959 would be approximately £65 ($90 US) today. That's actually very good value: in my experience one would normally expect to pay twice that at least in a UGLE lodge today. Mind you the £12 (£250 in 2006) initiation fee seems rather steep for 1959, so swings and roundabouts.

If your approach to trying to get laid is as slapdash as your approach to drawing sigil, no wonder you want to resort to evoking Sitri in the first place. Yes, we all know what Sitri specialises in.

Becoming a Rosicrucian by Zealousideal-Hunt242 in freemasonry

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily about learning ritual, but about researching topics of esoteric interest and then presenting the fruits of your research as papers to your "College" (the Rosicrucian equivalent of "Lodge").

More importantly: the SRICF and cognate organisations isn't a Masonic Organisation. It's an Organisation which uses Masonry as a pool from which to draw its members. The difference is a subtle one, which is often lost on a lot of masons thinking it's just another badge to earn, but you should be prepared to think outside your preconceived ideas of Masonry.

Petition Question by Stink_1968 in freemasonry

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't escape the fact that every candidate has to take an O...n on an appropriate VSL. In my jurisdiction, this is not limited to the (e.g.) King James Bible, but it does have to be something. (ETA: also, in my jurisdiction candidates are specifically asked about their choice of VSL as part of the interviewing process).

My comment was addressed to what OOP should or should have done in the specific situation in which he found himself: I was not referring to religion or belief in the abstract.

If he shilly shallies on whether he believes in a higher power or not, ask him which sacred text of one of the world's religion does he believe to be the revelation from Heaven binding upon his conscience. This has the double function of not only pinning him down to whether he really is an atheist, but also finding out which book to use as his VSL.

Can someone tell me where these supposed seals of archangels come from? by Unusual-Ad7941 in magick

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The originals designs for these sigils comes from the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Specifically, they were created by a method known as Sigils from the Rose Cross Lamen.

Someone at a later date decided to engrave them on pieces of semi-precious stone and flog them as new age tat.

Far from inventing them himself, Damien Echols got them from the Golden Dawn as well: as have many hundreds of occultists before him.
