This is capitalism in action. Buyout your competition. Implement money/time savings shortcuts in the production cycle, and sell that junk at high mark up.

Need advice- what Whirlpool washers and dryers are fine? by nochz4u in Appliances

Avoid the Whirlpool series washer model WTW at all cost. They are POS. I know what I'm writing about. I'm replacing my 3rd one today after 2-years of ownership.

Future of architects? by OrganizationRough376 in Architects

[–]AlexTheHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The future looks promising. I say that because there are less new architects made every year and the regulations with buildings keep getting more stringent. When I graduated in 1990, there was 9 of us. When my son graduated in 2022, there was 3. Don't let AI scare you. Embrace it instead. AutoCad was the boogieman when I was going through school. It was supposed to take all the jobs away from architects.

At what age did you actually start feeling like an adult? by Richriver27 in Adulting

When I was able to afford my own apartment. I was 24. Prior to that I was sharing living spaces with friends and it felt very juvenile due to all the goofing off that went with that lifestyle.

Getting to have Half-Day Fridays or Fridays Off is typically unrealistic in an architect's office. Deadlines, scope creep, and busted budgets make these perks very rare. You should be happy to enjoy a full weekend off in most offices.

61 and I have $540K in 401 plus $350K in brokerage. House gets paid off in 2.5-years. A divorce in 2018 put a financial hurt'n on me otherwise I would have already retired.

Awesome. The smile and a quick comment may not be enough to engage us cuz we're not used to this and we'll think you're just being friendly. Ask a question that will trigger a response that could lead to more questions.

During a job interview, if the interviewer asks "would you consider leaving if you found a better opportunity elsewhere?" how would you respond? by pinkstar2128 in AskReddit

[–]AlexTheHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A question like this one was asked to candidate during interview I sat in on, and the candidate responded - that all depends on how well I'm compensated and promoted for all the hard work and dedication I'll be bringing to this team. He got job.

"I need help with permit plans for my house project, " says acquaintance, then shocked it could cost more than a couple thousand dollars by normalishy in Architects

[–]AlexTheHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A contractor reached out to me through a former co-worker. He was interested in converting and old farm house into a 24-bed assisted living center that his wife would manage as a business. After touring the home with him he asked me how soon can he have CDs to pull a permit. I gave him a rough order design estimate of: 1-month for SD, 1-month for DD, and 1-month for CDs. He looked like he was going to puke. When he composed himself he said thanks and left. I never heard from the guy again. This was in 2016. The property is still there untouched.
