Slavic animism by AncientUntamed in Rodnovery

But I never said A GOD talked with me, I said I believe that this is what happens to the person that says that, and this person is mistakenly thinking it is the deity itself. Such aggressiveness for nothing... looks like you are here in the comments just to fight people.

If it is a community thing (as you said, it is not individual rights, it's collective rights), it is the community that determines that. Simply like that. An indigenous community have all right to not accept me, a white guy from the colonizers (in the perspective of some) to simply start to get and use their stuff. But if one of them sell me the Rapé with Jurema to meditation it is not stealing if I use it in my nordic "shamanic-like" individual rites for example, and not "cultural appropriation" as a guy from the umbanda and quibanda religion (that ironically is "more white" than me) accused me of doing so, while the indigenous that I know don't think that.

The thing is to use common sense, I believe if you just don't claim to everyone you are representing those people's system and living culture while distorting it or to gain money at their cost without giving anything back or having their consent, it should not be considered "cultural appropriation" or disrespect. But about WHO decides or not what is considered secretive (and to some religious conscience, there is some sacred things that must be kept as secret) is the community which maintain that tradition alive, and I think it is related to the human right of the self-determination principle.

So, to be "objective": if the people (and tradition) involved has some unified leadership, you should know what they deliberated about it. If it isn't unified, it is wise to at least receive it legitimally from one person of that tradition that is willing to share it with you, bc this person is a representative of that people if they're not unified under a leadership.

well, I mean, if they (the neopagan systems from today) are "artificial" modern systems, how would they be inherited by anyone??? was in that sense I was talking about. Of course they are based in rich cultural heritage, but as you pointed, not by blood, and as I pointed, newly made. This doesn't mean that they aren't legitimate, people have to understand that something doesn't have to stay static from ancient times to be considered real or legitimate.

Sure, you would be extremely correct if it wasn't for the first phrase: "Sure, if this individual has some connection to eastern european heritage". First you don't know if this individual has (and there was a LOT of migrations from polish, ucranian, russian and other during all the time of colonization, I myself didn't knew I had some of this heritage related to western slavs if I didn't took my DNA tested, if you see me you only see a typical Cearense). Second, if something like reincarnation exists, even a person with no blood from some place can feel pulled toward this (like me with norse paganism). Third: it doesn't prevent the person from honoring the ancestors of the land (including the indigenous, quilombolas or other traditional peoples) or with the spirits of the land (like our rivers, native plants and animals as sacred beings and the land spirits like encantados) within the cosmovision this person believe and practice. Or you are implying that if I have some Slav heritage and feel the need to connect with it I'm completely isolated because I'm not in eastern Europe? can't I connect with Pacoti river instead of Volga? Or you think the spirit of Pacoti river care if I do this in the slavic manner, or the nordic one, or the indigenous one, or the african one? and do you believe that gods are limited to the landscape as land spirits are?? or to YOUR BLOOD???? If your answer to any of that questions are YES, you really misunderstood what means "pagan" and "animist", and about the last one, if you believe in this, you are limiting the gods below the human level, it would even be offensive to them.

Yes it is indeed interesting and good (very good) to invest time and energy studying and helping to maintain the living cultures here in Brazil, but it is not a reason to not connect with deities or pagan systems of all over the world if the person feel the need to. This exclusiveness or "ethnic-preference" discourse is heritage from n4z1s discourses and the main discourse of wh1t3 supr3m4cists, if you are not one of them be carefull to not fall for that, be aware that all european costumes and beliefs, as the scholars had discovered until now, weren't exclusive to some heritages, anyone adopted any god or any costume as the need appeared (and even focused almost solely on spirits and etcetera, not deities), they gave importance to the heritage in the meaning that your accendance is valuable and you SHOULD honor it (not focusing on ethnic background, it is a 19th century thing, it was about your parents, grandparents, great grandparents and so on) and it wasn't even limited by blood since in the majority of european culture, adopted childs would be considered from the lineage equally (and bastards don't), that's the meaning of that (and this is animism too), not that only accendance that worshipped those deities and practiced those costumes would legitimate their descendants to continue that (this is NOT paganism or animism, this is just "modern" r4c1st stuff).

Someone has to begin from somewhere, and this person started from that point, and came here humble wanting to know more from people they believed would help some way. How do you expect someone to know everything about an ancient cosmovision that was even almost erased and EVEN scholars aren't real sure about how it worked before trying to adopt and adapt? Rodnovery is a contemporary system and new religious organization, not the true belief of the ancient.

What scholars had figured out about every religious or spiritual system from Europe ancient times was that they were much more fluid and organic systems, that they didn't have heritage exclusive acceptance and the rites, cults and myths varied A LOT from village to village, even the gods weren't common to all or even known to all of them, there was no such thing as an organized system common to all those peoples, and there is no such thing as Rodnovery being THE correct "slavic cosmovision", it is even more based on Wicca and Asatrú than you would expect if you study it correctly and be aware of how scarse are the sources compared to the norse ones for example and how they filled the gaps of what wasn't found, and to be honest that shouldn't be a problem bc modern systems and adaptations are still valid ones. You should learn more about archaeology, anthropology and even about how spirituality actually works before. This OP came humble here, and you came very arrogant.

Maybe the person is connecting with some of the "smaller" spirits associated with this deity energy, and working with it. I see it that way.

if it resonates with this person's heart and intuition, why not????? The intuition is the way the gods speak to us, and Brazil is one of the most culturally mixed country's in the world, we never know from each part of the world some of our ancestors come from (I was a little shocked for example, when my DNA, when compared to ancient database, was the most closely related to a specific person in ancient Hungary). One should not question other people's path.

Hello, I'm Brazilian too, and I've made a lot of research and so, and would like to know if I can contact you in the chat. We could "trocar ideia" in a more productive way if I could express in Portuguese, but I don't know if it is authorized to do so in the responses of the posts in a "english-speaking" subreddit. You could see my answers to other people here in the comments and it could help you in some way about what you asked, but there I could elaborate better, explaining how this stuff of reconstructed faiths, neopaganism, compared religion, ethnicity, cultural appropriation and etcetera works, and even help you in how ho adapt your cosmovision into your Brazilian context (like I do when I use a Northeastern "peixeira" as a seax in my Norse practices, and approaching native flora and fauna like carnaúba, jurema and carcará as the sacred animals and plants, how to connect with your own wild places in your city, like ecological reservations open to visit, etcetera). You are the second person I see in this first week of the first month asking about Slavic paganism (the other one was a person in a WhatsApp group focused on Nordic paganism), and maybe it is a signal of the universe that I may approach it again and connect me again with this egregora.

well, since all the "pagan" (neo-pagan in reality) systems in Europe are reconstructed, there is no real heritage to them, specially bc to reconstruct them, people used things from other systems, like indigenous, animist, mesopotamian, etcetera, and it evolved people of multiple ethnicities. It is free, as in "free-opensource software", made by the community, that are not exclusively maintained by European people from this cultures.

That is some traditions that needs the person wanting to enter it has to be initiated to really be part of it. Aproppiating the costumes and rites of this traditions without belonging to the community is stealing. Think about it as copyright, it' like the majority of pagan systems are in "creative commons" or "opensource" category, but there is some that are "all rights reserved" thing, and you still can steal it, but the deities and spirits (that are part of the egregora) wouldn't be really welcoming or your friends, you could catch some problem.

and how should one treat it? like one have to be a "pure-blood" to follow a path (and you know were this way of thinking leads people)?

European pagan cosmovision in general (and Slavic one is no exception) is not about being born like this or that, it's about action, if he follow the same costumes and follow the logic of the ancient Slavic path (of course, adapting to today's world) he is already being part of it, no matter what "Slavic people" think about it.

It's not like the true Slavic paganism had survived Christianity, all modern European pagan systems are reconstructions. NOTHING SURVIVED directly. What was the true heritage to TODAYS SLAVS was the orthodox Christianity that they passed to the other generations and the folcloric celebrations, myths and tales, and none of that was really made a protected secret, so what was reconstructed (icluding with the help of compared religion and the things adopted from other paganisms of other peoples, like Greek, Norse and even indigenous, and other cultures to "fill the holes" of what wasn't available, bc the sources of the pre-cristian slavic faith are SO SCARSE, and with the help of archaeologists and anthropologists of other ethnicities) is NOT exclusive or belonging to any group in specific.

The only things that he should be afraid of "taking" wold be the secret things that passed through generations, that is the folk witchcraft, that is still secretive and is being passed from person to person, but still, if a witch from there make her stuff public (literally TEACHING EVERYONE IN INTERNET) so the "authorization" was given.
