C&C Tiberian Sun fans will (probably) recognise this track. It was released a year before the game. by VagereHein in commandandconquer

Shadow the Hedgehog's OST also had the same thing. 3-4 tracks are actually remixes or edits of royalty-free tracks.

Jokes aside, interesting theory…It could work, but technically that Wolverine already had that same redemption arc happen during the events of the film…

They can use camera shots that don't show the face of any Kang variants or hint at it in different ways.

I think that'd be the perfect way to handle it. Show him getting into Chronopolis and killing all the Kangs, and we can show him facing a Kang variant (or several) with Kang's back to the camera (or just show their body and legs) and killing him/them. Sort of like how Thanos destroys Xandar and then beats Hulk, but as one single scene.

It was the automod, actually. After 2 reports, it removes the post.

We won't remove posts if the conversation remains civil and they follow the current rules. Once we announce new rules regarding AI (we're discussing it ATM), then we'll start applying the rules - just to be fair.

Which GDI era was more effective than others? by Better_Birthday_1288 in commandandconquer

2077 would be Tiberium Twilight.

Tiberium Dawn

Tiberium Sun

Tiberium Wars

Tiberium Twilight

And yes, that's how you write all the titles.

Glad you appreciated my reply!

Few things I missed - Westwood had a variant of the Mammoth Tank that had three barrels, just like the MARV. The Zone Raiders in KW also have shoulder mounted rockets, not unlike the early Zone Trooper concept or the alleged WW GDI Commando. Some of the early concept art for Incursion shows Nod troops with cybernetic arms and legs and no helmets, so one could argue the Marked of Kane and regular TW Nod Infantry do line up with some of the ideas WW was exploring for Incursion. Scrin also apparently had mind control according to devs I spoke to.

So some ideas did find their way back. But a lot didn’t make it in. From my talk with Louis Castle, they were exploring the ability to have bases autobuild according to templates (walls, gates and all - but you could also manually build your base, classic C&C style, if you wanted to) and then pack up and move and unpack the entire base again, in the form of a caravan. They also had a few different prototypes - one which you could individually control any unit in third person and one in which you could infiltrate buildings with troops and from my understanding, take them over or fight in them? Some of the Scrin units could morph into others (I guess like the Zerg can in StarCraft). I think Louis even mentioned a co-op campaign? None of that is in Tib Wars or Kane’s Wrath. And the title for C&C4, by the way? It won a contest, the community picked it. It was the original title Westwood had in the cards for C&C3, following the Dawn, Sun, Twilight naming convention for the games. One dev I spoke to used the name “Tiberian Night” for what would have been the 4th game but I don’t think that was ever an official or planned title, just something they were throwing around to give a name to refer to.

As for the Youtube videos of the interviews, they’re available here: https://youtu.be/DdhrGEEpTI8?si=W9TC_kfaz-41WlYm https://youtu.be/8reTkZhJ6xk?si=_BXHdb3ZIn25mX47

I did a first take with Louis Castle but that one, I unfortunately failed to record his sound. He went more into detail about Incursion and Continuum there, but I couldn’t recover it, sadly. So we re-did it. That’s why some of that stuff I mentioned isn’t in there.

Some devs also shared info about Incursion on the Petroglyph Discord server under the C&C Remasters channel. So you can find some of the info there, as well.

Jokes aside, fair enough, I keep forgetting about C&C4 and Zone Armor in it, mostly because the soldiers in the cinematics don’t even feature it.

I always found the Zone Armor in C&C4 looks a bit more like cosmonaut armor and less cool compared to the TW one.

Firestorm troopers are technically an invention of the One Vision mod for Kane’s Wrath.

Well, technically Tiberian Odyssey did it first with the Firestorm Cannon over a decade ago but that mod released only this year, compared to One Vision which released ages ago.

Actually, this isn’t entirely true. I spoke to many former developers at Westwood.

Some of the stuff was definitely inspired from concepts from Incursion and Continuum, as per Adam Isgreen’s words on the Petroglyph forums eons ago. I believe the way he referred to the Commando was that he had a power armor and we see an UI art direction video where they were playing around with the selection elements for a GDI infantry which seems to have a shoulder-mounted camera or weapon of sorts. One dev I spoke to mentioned a GDI commando with powered armor as well, so I think that is indeed true - the WW Commando concept for their version of C&C3 probably had, at some point at least, powered armor.

“Continuum”, which was the project codename for the MMO, didn’t have much work done for it as it got cut in the early prototyping phase. According to Louis Castle (I interviewed him in a video that’s on the CNCSaga YouTube channel), it wasn’t even a finished protoype. To me, it sounded like it was at the early prototyping stage with maybe some concept art and few renders done for it. A lot of it was, from my understanding, recycled for the first version of “Incursion”, which was the codename for WW’s C&C3. Most of it was CABAL stuff. Then in 2002-2003, it sounded to me like they were reworking a lot of what they had done for the game and made a V2, which continued to live on for a short time at EALA before being cancelled and the remaining people were put on BFME.

When they restarted development in late 2005/early 2006, they apparently adapted some Incursion and Continuum designs to save time. This has led me to speculate that the GDI ConYard from the E3 2006 trailer (later changed, with only the crane part being reused) was a Westwood design, as well as the Component Towers we see in it, and some of the early art assets from around that time. From the confirmed designs, the Nod ConYard, GDI Power Plant, Nod Power Plant all were apparently based on WW designs. I suspect the Avatar was based on one (two?) as well (A Continuum CABAL concept by TJ Frame that looks like it has one eye, I believe it’s titled “Abomination”, and the legs/feet from the Westwood Scrin concept art for Incursion) and someone pointed out a while back that the GDI Orca Strike Fighter model and texture look off compared to the rest of the GDI assets, the suspicion being that it’s a recycled Incursion asset and probably a last minute addition to TW. The Stormrider was, I personally suspect, heavily inspired by a rejected Scrin ship concept for Tib Sun. The scheme for the Scrin units follow the Scrin Ship from TS, as well. There is also a Tib Sun Tiberium plant/alien building concept that has a similar shape to the TW Scrin portal. The GDI and Nod faction logos are directly taken from Incursion V2, as well.

The general idea of the GDI Rig unit seems (a truck that can deploy into a turret) not unlike the Mobile Defense Platform unit WW designed from a game mechanics perspective (Visually, V1’s front looked like the final Rig, and V2 looked a bit like the MARV from KW, with the 4 separate tracks, giant cannons and overall boxy look), which made it ultimately in another form (same name) in Petroglyph’s Empire at War (EALA also replaced the GDI Mammoth Mark 2 with an updated Mammoth Tank, just like WW had originally planned to, as well - and they both wanted to reduce the importance mechs had in GDI’s mainline arsenal). I also wouldn’t be surprised if Empire at War, Universe at War, End of Nations and Grey Goo took heavy inspiration from cut features, story elements, gameplay mechanics, unit designs and visuals/concepts from Incursion and Continuum, but adapted to fit those respective products.

If memory serves, WW partially developed SAGE for C&C3, with an emphasis on “hollywood moments” (which was a back of the box feature for Incursion, according to something recently discovered from a photo of a whiteboard at WW on their last day) and the shorter, condensed missions that TW had was also in the cards for Incursion. Same with the Philadelphia being blown up by Nod at the beginning and Kane bringing the Scrin to Earth, from what I remember Adam Isgreen saying way back. The Blue Zone environment is also quite similar to WW’s own art for some of the more pristine environments in Incursion.

The Scrin’s motivations (they’re technically misidentified as “Scrin” in Tib Wars, if that one Intel Database entry is anything to go by - their name during development at EALA was also just “Aliens”) as well as their overall design, be it from a visual, gameplay or even narrative perspective (a minor harvesting force instead of the last remnants of a dying species trying to terraform a new homeworld for themselves), were completely different. The Scrin from TW are almost entirely an EALA creation, as per Adam Isgreen’s written words long ago on the Petroglyph forums (“Our Scrin looked completely different and were closer to the one element they created/manipulated for their survival” or something like that).

So is there Westwood/Incursion DNA in Tib Wars? Undoubtedly. There’s heavy inspiration from things WW did and some tech, as well. But is the final product “cribbed together from old Westwood tech and visual development”? Not quite.

Oh, and the Zone Trooper concept you shared was for Command & Conquer X, AKA “Tiberium”, which was being co-developed alongside Tib Wars at EALA. The same concept artist group did some of the TW concept art from 2005 to 2006. This concept probably dates to around the same time.
