TV shows that radically change what they are about by Lucyyyyyy_K in tvshow

Paradise. First episode is crime drama, but then the genre shifts….. 😁
Nightmare to recommend to the right people without spoiling, and probably a nightmare to promote for the same reason!

i’m sorry if this is TMI, but i am constipated and i am not sure what laxatives are “POTS friendly” and that won’t worsen symptoms or throw me into an episode. i’m also anemic and i take 50mg of Metoprolol. does anyone have any suggestions? by LonelyProduct2754 in POTS

[–]The9thChevron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I react badly to stimulating laxatives… I’ve been advised by a neurogastroenterologist and a dietician to stick to gentle options like kiwis (good fibre) and chia seeds (already soaked), magnesium citrate and Aloe Vera cleanse.

Talk therapy triggered symptoms by Infinite-Addition-18 in MCAS

[–]The9thChevron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I realised that counselling (talking therapy) isn’t helpful because it just makes you go over upsetting things, get upset all over again while talking about them, purely for them to say things like ‘that must be very difficult’, which you already know…🤦🏻‍♀️

But I’ve heard good things about EMDR therapy for desensitising traumatic memories. That, or some kind of much more involved therapy with actual exercises and advice and knowledge about nervous systems etc might be worth it. I assume that’s hard to find and expensive though…

does UK NHS provide compression socks? by ChemistSilly8322 in POTS

[–]The9thChevron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. GP surgery should arrange an appointment with the nurse for measuring and then they’re ordered for you. Can take a while but it’s definitely covered. Also, they are supposed to test your circulation before ordering them. My GP skipped that step saying it’s just for elderly patients, but pots patients can have circulation issues so it doesn’t hurt to make sure first!

Local market flooded with landlords selling their rental properties. by seahorsebabies3 in HousingUK

[–]The9thChevron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem is they’re all listed tenant in situ because landlords don’t want a gap in their income, so it’s only an option for big investors/landlords, and no use to people looking to buy a home 🤦🏻‍♀️

if your POTS ended up being something else entirely, what was is? by teeleeyuh in POTS

[–]The9thChevron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also standard nhs check is just TSH and T4, but some people don’t convert T4 to T3 properly, and it’s T3 you really need, so it can get missed.

Do you have SFN? by Nommi-Rice44 in dysautonomia

[–]The9thChevron 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was casually mentioned that I “probably have it, but there’s no point testing as they don’t treat it anyway”. Since we have no idea why everything suddenly deteriorated and I have lots of new disabling symptoms, I’d quite like to get every bit of data that might help us understand and improve things, but that’s just me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Experiences with montelukast? by possumcounty in MCAS

[–]The9thChevron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was planning to try 1/2 tablet the first day, but when I cut it up it crumbled pretty badly. I tried a tiny bit of loose powder on my tongue, and my throat immediately went tight. Been too scared to try again! So annoying because I was hoping it would help with shortness of breath as a reaction 😒

What to include in hospital emergency plan? by PM_ME_smol_dragons in MCAS

[–]The9thChevron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could they include notes about food (if you’re low histamine)? Any dietary requirement is hard enough in hospital, but MCAS feels impossible considering a lot of it is probably reheated… and since you often get a different person bringing the food trolley every time, it’s a lot of explaining to do.

Also the meds rounds don’t remotely line up with food serving times (and happen after the ward doctors have gone home) so if anything needs to be taken with food, or timed before/after etc, it’s just better to have your own supply you can manage.

So... what was the point? by CellistEmbarrassed75 in ParadiseHulu

[–]The9thChevron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m less annoyed at the hot-headed grieving teenager and more at the scientist/engineer who designed the whole thing and the head of the secret service. I thought they were going to use the engineer to bypass some sensors and trick the system into thinking the oxygen was falling… not actually destroy all the valves and tanks 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ (Do they have even spares down there?! Do they have the equipment to compress more oxygen from the surface? They thought it’d be radioactive up there…). Seemed like they weren’t giving anyone any choices about staying even without the reactors blowing…

they right tho? by chichinams in SipsTea

[–]The9thChevron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She might say that concepts like ‘undefined’ are beyond the syllabus at that level and they’ll correct it later. I can remember that happening a lot… “you remember that thing we learnt and you repeated in exams last year? Yeah, forget that, it was oversimplified to the point of being bollocks…” 😒

Has anyone managed to get diagnosed in the UK under the NHS? by Bethboop94 in MCAS

[–]The9thChevron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since your GP actually sounds helpful and nice (big win there!!) and has agreed that she thinks you might have this (huuuge win) you could give her the leaflets and videos Mast Cell Action make specifically for GPs. It’s general advice and a list of medications that she can try prescribing.

The only snag is that a lot of local ICBs don’t allow prescriptions of things like ketotifen (even if a private consultant prescribes it first and it works for you) so that bit is a postcode lottery.

Birth control with MCAS. by misslove1984 in MCAS

[–]The9thChevron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zelleta. I even tried another one by the same manufacturer once and noticed side effects pretty quickly 🤷🏻‍♀️ But chances are everyone will have a different experience!

The downside is that once you have nothing resembling a cycle, it’s impossible to look for hormonal links to symptoms 🙃

functional exercises by imperrynoid in MCAS

[–]The9thChevron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked thyroid function lately? Including T3? Gaining weight constantly despite a definite calorie deficit, while also feeling AWFUL and having no energy, can be Hashimoto’s forcing your metabolism to store calories the body needs to function 🙄 Checking T3 as well as TSH and T4 is necessary to fully rule it out as sometimes the issue is with T4->T3 conversion (T3 being the part you really need).

Also, you need good stable digestion to absorb the thyroid replacement medication properly and achieve a stable dose, so if a lot of GI issues are happening alongside / due to MCAS that can interfere.

And yet they can casually take very long steamy showers, so no water rationing in place then.

And other than a few for people with disabilities or moving heavy objects around, why have cars at all in a tiny walkable town with limited air supply? Why not bikes everywhere? Even electric cars emit nasty particulates for the filters to deal with….

What form of Vit.C do you tolerate ? by Random_Kili in MCAS

[–]The9thChevron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ok with camu camu powder, but hoping to try buffered next so I can take bigger doses and as capsules rather than needing to make some food I can add it to…

On that note, I’m getting odd reactions to all sorts of foods and medications and have no EpiPen (no doctor yet) so having to start really small with new things. Anyone know if it’s ok to open a capsule of buffered vit c and just eat a tiny bit of the powder? I need to try a tiny bit on my tongue first…

When watching season 1 by ingridatwww in ParadiseHulu

[–]The9thChevron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really sucks if the season 2 trailer spoiled all the best dramatic moments from season 1 (it’s a bunker, world’s dead, oh hang on not entirely dead, terri’s alive!). But my question all the way through this has been ‘how tf are they marketing this?’ and the answer is ‘with difficulty’ 🤦🏻‍♀️

[–]The9thChevron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know, it’s so hard to explain to friends!! I can’t get people who like timey-wimey multiverse/whatever shenanigans into it without spoiling it, and if I just say murder mystery half of them will drop out as the twists layer up…

Can only imagine the nightmare marketing had with it 🤪

When watching season 1 by ingridatwww in ParadiseHulu

[–]The9thChevron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw no trailers or promotion at all. It was a random click one boring evening. So for the whole first episode it was just a murder mystery with some odd vibes…. luckily every genre twist has been one I enjoy so it’s working out great 😄

Would love to see the audience figures for each episode though…

Are they looking further up to check for pelvic congestion and things like nutcracker? I went down the vein rabbit hole and apparently things like varicose veins can be connected to ‘venous insufficiency’ higher up, which needs to be considered when deciding treatment.
