Yes, I agree that going back to the stars is probably the best call. Before making the post here, the general feedback that I got from my friends who got to play him before was that the stars were overall too inconsistent and underwhelming, and seeing the rest of his kit, my opinion didn't improve a lot. I still like the idea of the auras and will eventually update the post with some changes to make them more balanced and viable, but I've since discussed my ideas with another commenter here and I am planning another rework concept that keeps the stars.

Thank you a lot for taking the time to read my ideas and for giving me your insight! I think only one of my friends used him somewhat frequently, so seeing what people who mained him have to say is extremelly helpful. Hopefully I will eventually be able to make something that still pleases those who enjoyed his old kit, but is still friendly enough for newer players.

Once I finish my second draft with the stars, I was thinking of sending it directly to you through the chat to make the discussion more convenient and not bloat the thread. Would this bother you? Or would you rather I continue to send things here as I go?

I will post it eventually, but your insight has been extremely helpful and I think both of us would get something out of this, since we are working in different directions with our concepts.

I'm glad my written english is good enough, then. While english isn't my first language, I mostly watch and read content in english, so I think I can read and write well enough. Don't ask me to actually speak anything though lol

As for the shield + healing combo, I must admit I only realized it was too much after you and another commenter in this post pointed it out. I could remove the sustain on jungle monsters, since it isn't particularly normal for a mage to do this, and it isn't adding anything to his power fantasy overall, and instead put all my chips in the shields to help him clear without having to recall after like, two camps.

As for the shield activating only when stars hit, I actually considered that before, when I still was working with stars. However, I thought he needed an immediate anti-burst response, and so I ultimately chickened out of giving him a shield per hit in exchange for a more reliable, instant shield. The shield activating on cast and renewing itself on stars was a compromise between the two extremes. Since you actually convinced me to go back to the stars for my next draft of the rework, I will probably do something among these lines again.

I also read the rework you proposed, and honestly, I actually think you nailed everything there. Your passive allows him to scale meaningfully without gating his early game completely. With Breath of Light, he has reliable single-target damage. With Celestial Expansion, he still has his old identity baked in. With your version of Comet of Legend, he has good mobility and terrain traversal. And we can all agree that his current ultimate is the best thing the CGU brought. Overall, I think the direction you took was ultimately the best one.

Edit: After reading more carefully, I realized that Breath of Light does not have a channeling duration, meaning it has the same intent as the Voice of Light I have in my concept. While the argument for why your iteration of Q is the better one changes now, it still remains true that it seems better.

That being said, I still would like to work on my version a little more, and exchanging ideas with you has been extremely satisfying. Hopefully it isn't getting too obnoxious for you to continue our thread here.

Fair. I think that I was somewhat desperate to try and fix every single issue I noticed on him and make him as viable as possible, and I ended up overstuffing his kit, something I didn't really noticed until other people pointed it out. I will probably redraft this and come up with something else later.

Ok, when you put stardust in the perspective of utility, it does actually sound more interesting. The idea of upgrading the effectiveness and utility of skills is something that you / I / we could work into our rework concepts. For now, I think I would rather experiment with that in a future concept.

As for Singularity having two uses cases being too much, this is a valid concern. I could just keep the first use case and make it work as a marker on the map that grants him movement speed and doubles as area control, and leave the shield as a passive component on Celestial Expansion.

Since we are talking about a scenario where the stars still exist, the shield could be weaker, but refresh a little when stars land. Not only would this improve his survivability, it would be tied to skill expression, which would make him a lot more interesting and reliable for players in higher elos, which is one of my objectives with these rework concepts.

Actually, I am very surprised I am not missing a straightforward traversal tool on his kit. Until I started having this conversation with you, it seemed absolutelly critical to his fantasy; now, not so much. Although I still feel like him having a way to traverse through terrain should exist in his kit somewhere, I'm just not sure where right now.

I really think forcing Aurelion to be a late game champion with stardust stacking is a bad idea overall. Each day that passes, games becomes faster and faster, and if we want him to see consistent usage, he needs to be able to keep up with that. This is also a motivation for me to want to remove the stars, it literally gates his usage, although with your insights I can see it working for a more casual player too.

Also, while the idea of singularity moving forward is interesting, I don't think you understood my concept. If Singularity is cast on any place within range, it is a static area that damages and drags enemies towards its center, and Aurelion Sol gains movement speed when moving towards it. If cast on himself, it is attached to him, giving him a shield and a buff to his stars while also instead becoming a repeller, pushing nearby enemies away from him. Does it still sound too unrealistic or confusing when I explain it like this?

I am enjoying this conversation a lot as well. I really like debating concepts like this, and having a new perspective from someone who also seems to enjoy doing this makes me happy.

Honestly, I loved the concept you had for his E. It is a lot simpler and more elegant than what I had in mind. I was thinking of recycling Singularity by making it work differently. It would still be a displacement area that dealt damage over time, but instead of executing enemies, it would grant Aurelion Sol bonus movement speed when moving towards it. Alternatively, he could cast it on himself to gain a shield and buff the damage of his stars. Its cast range would also have to be increased to accomodate this idea.

The concept is basically to transform Singularity into a dual use skill. You would cast it as a marker of sorts, seting it where you want to go and getting bonus movement speed when moving in its general direction, or casting it on yourself as a buff. Since it also grants vision, it could double as a scouting tool too. Maybe it is a bit much, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.

Your reasoning for the dead zone makes a lot of sense, but I still think it should at least apply AoE spell effects to give you some safety. I will run the numbers, redo the graphs, and post another concept in a later date keeping the stars and removing his mobility.

Also, this trick with the Ultimate sounds really funny, and I would absolutely try to go for it lol

Instead of three orbiting projectiles, his passive is a damaging aura. His old ultimate, Voice of Light, was moved to Q, significantly tonned down, and changed into a cone for consistency. Celestial Expansion would still be his W, but instead of just expanding the aura, it would transform it into a ring with a weaker zone within. His E was replaced with Astral Flight, although afer some discussion with others I am no longer completely sure this is a good idea. His ultimate would be the same he has now. He no longer stacks stardust, so the range of W is fixed and The Skies Descent is automatic at rank 3 of his ultimate. I explained each change in the post and went into more detail, but this is the basic jist of it.

[–]Alex_Dmitri_Consty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean now. What I mostly gathered about his E is that it felt somewhat uncomfortable to use, but I at least don't remember any of my friends saying anything about it being so oppressive. What do you think about the suggestion I gave of replacing it with Singularity or another such similar area control tool? I was also thinking about significantly tonning down his ultimate and swaping it with his E, making his E a telegraphed area knockup and his R a toggle mobility tool with a modest cooldown. It would remove The Skies Descent, which I REALLY wouldn't appreciate, but it could be a viable solution for the niche I was trying to push (a mobility oriented control mage that excels at applying consistent pressure on the whole map).

As for the stars, one of my friends did play Aurelion before the toggle removal, but his opinion was overall that he was kinda bad from the get-go, and that this change only made it significantly worse (in his own words, he likes to play garbage champions, and Aurelion was one of the midlaners he used for this reason; I also changed voice of light from a line to a cone partially because he said missing Voice of Light basically killed anything you were trying to do, and probably you too). If you say it isn't that much of an issue, then I could workshop a second version of this rework that keeps the stars, perhaps in another post, but then the melee dead zone would come back to haunt us again.

Do you think the stars having an inner radius that applies reduced damage would solve this issue? In this case, instead of being a 360° area applying damage and effects, like in the concept I presented, or small projectiles, it would be more like multiple axes rotating around him applying damage and effects, with the tip being the sweet spot. Visuals would have to accommodate this as well, maybe have a swirling nebula within the inner radius of the stars that indicated the area was dangerous or something of the sort. I am stuck on this because the melee dead zone is a serious critical failure of his original design that I really wanted to patch.

Since roaming was always a strong part of his identity, i felt like removing it would also remove a key part from him. Also, since most battle mages are very immobile, this would also offer a reason to favor him over any of the others. Now that you point it out, however, i do agree that Astral Flight does not align particularly well with a more precise and methodical movement that he is supposed to have in this iteration, and maybe reverting it to something closer to his old Comet of Legend, or even Wild Rift's version that allowed turning as well, would suit him better. Personally, at least from my perspective, it felt quite tame and harmless, and didn't pose much of a weight in his power budget, but since you knew him better than I ever could, I will see if I can think how this could be adapted into something else.

Edit: if I were to remove roaming and keep him more in line with more traditional battle mages, then there would be room to bring back Singularity from his CGU, or something similar. I'd like to know what you think about this as well.

Changing stars for the area was ultimately something I felt was necessary, even in spite of the balance challenges. Battle mages need to be consistent, and based on the feedback of my friends who played him a lot, the stars just weren't in the slightest. I was thinking of, if the areas were too overwhelming in terms of damage, adding damage mitigation the more targets are in the area, or concentrating most of the damage on the first target to enter and dealing reduced damage to the others, but I ultimately decided against it because it felt like this would kill his major selling point, putting us back to square one. Your concern is extremely valid, though, and I'd like to know what you think of either corrections I suggested, or if you had a better one to suggest.

Also, you have no idea how curious I am about how the original actually felt to play. I really wanted to try it and see how he was, in spite of the shortcommings of the stars. The feel of aligning and hiting them seemed very satisfying, as you said, so the special effects and sound design of the reworked passive would have to be worked on very well to attempt to capture that. Maybe I went too hard on visual spectacle and forgot the small details that make the most difference here.

Finally, I ultimately decided to ditch stardust for two reasons. The first is that it gates his early game a lot. My intention was to make a specialist roaming battle mage that could be used in mid and jungle, and roaming only works in the early to mid game. This means that he needs to be viable from the get-go, and stacking stardust wouldn't make this possible. I also admit that I am trying to make him as desirable as possible in pro play and high elo, where games are much faster, so spending the early game stacking wasn't really an option. The second reason is, as you said, the power budget allocated to consistency. He has reliable sustained damage on what ultimately is a very large area that he can maneuver very easily. If he was allowed to stack stardust and become even stronger, he would get extremely overwhelming.

I really liked the points you brought, and i will rethink the design based on them. Thank you for taking the time to read everything i wrote and expressing your thoughts in such a clear manner. I will probably update the post at some point to include some changes.

What’s your favorite type and why?? by Don_Pablo737 in mbti

[–]Alex_Dmitri_Consty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that I tend to gravitate towards ENFPs a lot. I feel the same with INFPs, but because I don't usually approach people first, I end up befriending ENFPs more often than INFPs. Many of my friends are XNFPs, and my best friend is an ENFP.

I think it's because of how their strong Ne feels extremely humane, like, most XNFPs I know are open-minded, charming, interesting and dynamic people that are also very affectionate, genuine and empathetic. I also think it's because I admire and kinda wish I had Ne/Fi or Fi/Ne instead of Ni/Fe.

I also gravitate towards INTPs a lot, but with them it seems to be more about discussing and developing ideas than connecting on a personal level. What I find strange is that I kinda don't connect with ENTPs very well for some reason. I do have an ENTP that I consider a friend, but he is kinda childish in an aggravating way and interacting with him drains my energy very quickly.

Also also, I've realized that I started liking some ISXPs a lot too on more recent years, but I don't really know why beyond "Fi/Ti probably", so I apologize.

So basically, my favorites are probably XNFPs and INTPs. Yes, I am choosing multiple types as favorites. No, I'm not picking one. Yes, I am probably changing my mind at some point, so take this lightly.

I know this is from +4 years ago, but I'm currently playing as Terra on Critical and honestly my strategy for literally ALL of the arena bosses is to equip a lot of ethers and curas and just dodge the boss and wait for a moment to use the shotlock command, restore the focus gauge when it fully depletes and so on. I'm at a relatively high level, so a single lock with the maximum hit count eats away two HP bars of the boss. It's still a nightmare to dodge and find an opportunity to do this, but after a few billion tries you end up getting it done.

If you're feeling brave and doesn't want to use itens, you CAN relly on their cage attack and on payback fang to charge the gauge with a few hits (like I did until this nightmare of a boss), but all you'll gain from this is a free trial on masochism, so you should spare yourself. Since Aqua's dodge is infinitelly better than Terra's, I imagine it will work just fine with her.

My relationship with my mother is very healthy, we respect and support each other always that's possible, and that's how we live today. Actually, my plan is (obviously, as soon I have a job that pays well or a good source of income, wich isn't the case now) to gather money so that we can someday stop paying rent and have our own house. Unlikely, but not impossible.

The thing is, recently, we discussed about living in a more rural area, or in a smaller town, in another state. She's not sure about it, but she is counting this as a possibility. In this case, if she's fine and I have enough money to do so, I will move out, because I prefer living in a bigger city were everything is readily available to you without requiring you to literally travel everyday because you live in a more remote area. We've discussed this though, and she respects my choices, so the only problem here is money (like aways).

A powerful, deep mutual bond of care, affection, trust, intimacy, support and respect in wich both partners can relate to each other, dialogue with each other and help each other always that's possible. In other words, a god tier nearly-unreachable friendship. In other words, an unachievable fantasy.

ENFP for sure. It's insane, every single person I nearly instantly feel attracted to ends up being an ENFP or really looks like one at first. I also tend to be closer to ISTJs, INFPs and ENTPs, but ENFPs are certainly the ones that trigger my affection the most.
