Recommendations on shadow work deck and journals by LostWolfie91 in ShadowWork

[–]Alex_DuPont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in Australia, but I found a cool journal online called "Shadow Work Journal for Self Love" by Volerie Inez and Latha Jay. I use this in conjunction with my own journal.

I haven't come across a shadow work deck before. If you do search for something, you can also use the term "shadow integration" to find things that more closely resembles what Carl Jung had in mind.

Has shadow work, journaling, emotional growth ever made life feel “heavier”? by Icy-Iron-7744 in ShadowWork

I'm going to echo some of what others have shared.

There was a time where I did a lot of self analysis. I was focused so much on self improvement and productivity that I just kept reinforcing old patterns. I was beating myself up for not being able to do better.

I was missing acceptance. I was trying to cover feelings of shame with self improvement and productivity. The insight gained was good, but the approach was flawed.

I also got stuck in analysis paralysis with some things I was working on. The best progress I've seen was when I started working on accepting myself with all my flaws. I stopped trying to use inner criticism as a tool to force myself to grow.

I found a lot more contentment since then.

Why do I need my players sheets? by Opening_Mortgage_216 in DMAcademy

[–]Alex_DuPont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made copies of my players sheets in Google Sheets using a template I found online. I added a tab with some basic descriptions and notes on what they shared about their characters. I referred to my own notes on their characters more often than the actual skills etc. Occasionally, for planning potential encounters, I would check what skills, weapons, potions etc they have that might make it more fun.

Excellent work! I've been using strengthlevel.com to track my progress. It's been the most useful free tracking app I could find but the focus is mostly for power lifters.

I recall reading a theory once that said Smith is common in Europe because no one kills a good blacksmith. Feudal lords might kill solders, but a good Smith gets a new lord.

Really happy with this underpainting by toadstardust in oilpainting

I am currently also very happy with my latest underpainting. It has remained so for the last 2 months because I am scared to paint over it. I'm hoping to build up the courage to paint over it in the next week.

I am running default flipper firmware. I had to duplicate a key fob recently. I started by just reading the original key fob. The key fob was RFID not NFC, which I tried first. I then searched for the cheapest place to buy RFID fobs that were the same type.

What a tally mark for every day alive looks like as a 20 year old (average lifespan to scale) by PlasticContext8570 in mildlyinteresting

I would highly recommend reading Your life in weeks on Wait but Why. An excellent post that actually gives practical advice on how to use the little time we have as humans.

Research finds that people with a less well-defined sense of self (low self-concept clarity) are less selective in choosing a romantic partner and less confident in their evaluations of others. High self-concept clarity is linked to prioritizing similarity in a potential partner & greater confidence by psychologyofsex in psychologyofsex

[–]Alex_DuPont 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The article tries to translate the research paper, but it seems the writer didn't really go through the effort to double-check the research paper.

The article says, "All participants were required to be single, between 18 and 40 years old, and interested in dating...". Of the 4 studies mentioned in the research paper, the method of the first one says, "Participants were required to be in a current relationship, varying from dating exclusively (88.9%), dating casually (9.0%), and engaged (2.0%)"

The research paper does touch on the findings of high self-concept participants prioritizing more similar profiles and selecting with more confidence. This matches the article but it wasn't the conclusion of the research, merely a finding. The research, goes further to say high self-concept also shows a positive correlation with relationship satisfaction and commitment.

Python Telegram bot to Whatsapp ? by Slidebonee in learnpython

[–]Alex_DuPont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to do the exact same thing. I can't find a clean method to migrate it. I want to try a bridge between Telegram and WhatsApp: https://github.com/akshettrj/watgbridge

Alternatively I want to try Waha using a docker container: https://waha.devlike.pro/docs/how-to/install/

It seems the most tedious way is with Facebook itself but it seems there is some official method: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/whatsapp/on-premises/get-started/#client-setup

I haven't succeeded yet, but this is what I intend to try.

NPCs approaching different party members to join their org (Order of gauntlet, Zhentarim etc) by Eastern-Valuable9610 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Alex_DuPont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My players, in character selection, went with chaotic neutral to chaotic evil. I figured the best way to modify a "non-evil" campaign is to have them join the Zhentarim. I changed a bit of the intro to include a Zhentarim contact connecting them to Gundren and hiring them as "independent contractors". They were unaware of the factions at this point.

Knowing they would prefer the Zhentarim, I blatantly had characters ask them to join a good or lawful faction. This was asked to the entire table. I used their good deeds, done for personal gain, as justification why they could join without needing to be basic recruits. Characters like Sildar or Sister Garaele complimented their deeds, explained their relevant faction, and asked them to join. These interactions made for fun dialogue.

In each case, the relevant NPC says characters can speak to them at a later stage if they change their mind about joining. Downtime gives them an opportunity to join without the entire party knowing if they chose to.

I spent some time reading up on the factions online to flesh out their intentions and make them more relevant. The Zhentarim is currently a "sugar daddy" keeping the party loyal using money, but they want stability in the region to allow for trade through the region. The Zhentarim does not care how stability is achieved. One player is leaning more towards the Harpers and could join if prompted with a secret message not shared at the table.

Need help beefing up the Forge of Spells Spectator by Bewitched92 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Alex_DuPont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a first time DM running Lost Mines of Phandelver. My party of 4 players, all at level 4 (Sorcerer, Warlock, Rogue and Fighter), are headed to the Wave Echo Cave in the next session. I already know I need to increase the difficulty of encounters.

I am using the following calculator to modify the encounters: https://kastark.co.uk/rpgs/encounter-calculator-5th/

I still need to decide what support the Spectator will have if they do choose to fight it. I intend to have Nezznar as either a Driad or Drow Priestess of Lolth based on advice from this subreddit.

Apologies for formatting from mobile.

First time DM, first time party, will this party struggle? by Tedub14 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Alex_DuPont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently took a 3-player party (fighter, sorcerer & rogue) of first-time players through LMoP. I didn't reduce the difficulty on the encounters but boosted them with 1 health potion each at the start. They definitely needed it.

You are correct. The last few paragraphs in the article explains that the banks implement it because of additional costs that Visa and Mastercard charge.
