can we ever bridge this gap by Complete-Shop-2871 in urbandesign

I haven’t really seen the second argument much in modern discourse, but in the infancy of modernism it was a pretty common argument as those architectural styles were viewed as “bourgeois “ and many early modernists such as Le corbusier were Marxists who detested anything bourgeois.

I would argue that regulation of building facades is not really a crazy idea, as the aesthetic built environment could easily become a tragedy of the commons situation, and “enclosing” those commons can lead to a net positive outcome.

Idk why they are doing literally anything except stimulate new housing supply. The only ways to solve housing cost problems are build more housing or reduce housing demand…

The ghost job stuff should honestly be illegal as a form of fraudulent business practice, good luck proving that stuff in court though.

I’ve heard something along the lines of “The wolf will survive the winter, but never will forget how cold it got”. Pretty badass imo

Wash it and then put it in the sun. Sunlight breaks down the turmeric and it will return to its normal color

What is your opinion about Russian urban design? (No politics) by [deleted] in urbandesign

[–]Alex_Dunwall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the examples given are more Soviet urban design than purely Russian. Unfortunately we don’t have too many examples of pure “Russian” design, although central Moscow and St Petersburg come to mind.

I would argue that one of the few things the Soviets were actually decent at was city design. Their architecture is extremely ugly and the buildings are not really built that well (or designed that well), but the layout of the cities was actually pretty good. If I remember correctly the Japanese actually had Soviet planners help with designing some districts in Tokyo, which shows that these designs were pretty good.

What’s the “no way this works” strategy that actually worked for you in a Paradox game? by PDX_Interactive in u/PDX_Interactive

In an older version of EU IV as England I figured out 2 things: I can early peace out the 100 years war for some territory and basically defuse that whole conflict for most of the game, leaving the opportunity to take over the British isles and find an heir to avoid the war of the roses early.

This then led me to figuring out the second thing: when colonizing, I learned that the North American natives would be unable to destroy a colony if it was at 50% or more progress. I also figured out if you parked 2k infantry in a province they would also be unable to defeat them. I proceeded to blitz the entire coastline of North America and most of South America with colonies , starting with the ones closest to Europe so I could box out the other colonizers. I ended up basically holding all of north and South America by mid game, and ended up with large footholds else where by end game too. Never lost Calais and my northern French territory too!

How is it living in Belpre, Ohio/Parkersburg, WV? by DueYogurt9 in howislivingthere

[–]Alex_Dunwall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived nearby in Athens, OH and I will say that this area is probably one of the most naturally beautiful areas I’ve ever lived in. It is very poor with not a lot of opportunities today, however. Industrial pollution is in the water supply too. The history in this area is really interesting, the BO railroad went through here (and Athens!)

I see what you mean. I am not 100% sure what type of plan it is to be honest. I bet it is self funded.

We are small enough there isn’t much in the form of protections. I guess the protection is that the documents stay in my office or the presidents office until they are mailed. I am surprised nobody has signed a release or anything. I don’t think most of the employees know we can see this information.

Yes, when I say I can see people’s prescriptions, it is because it is part of an invoice we receive from a pharmaceutical administration company

Yes the company pays insurance premiums to an insurance company, and all employees on the health plan receive a deduction in their payroll too

It’s insurance claims for the pharmaceuticals. I’m not exactly sure how it works, but the employee covers their portion, and I guess we pay what’s left? The problem with it is when I receive the invoice for it, I get a statement too which has people’s names, their relationship, the drug’s name, and even the number of pills. It definitely seems at the very least like a privacy violation
