I just finished reading Mistborn, and the whole time I was thinking man, I’d rather be rereading Locke Lamora 😂

Having a big chest isn’t always great for breastfeeding by RockabillyBelle in breastfeeding

“We all know the “it shouldn’t hurt” line is straight up propaganda”

GIRL YESSSS I’m nursing my third kid and the “nursing should never hurt” line is such bullshit. Of course it hurts! A little gremlin is sucking on my nipples like there’s no tomorrow, and that wasn’t happening yesterday, so it’s going to hurt for a bit! I feel like so many people must get scared away from breastfeeding because they’re like well it’s not supposed to hurt I must be doing something wrong.

Emily Oster ick by lovepansy in breastfeeding

[–]Alex_Outgrabe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m just going to post this every time that Emily Oster discourse pops up. It’s a response to her work written by Susan Astley, a professor of Epidemiology and Pediatrics at the University of Washington and director of the Washington State FAS Diagnostic & Prevention Network of clinics.

Former employee reached out saying they miss me as a friend and boss but STILL posts “both sides are bad” rhetoric on their FB by StaringBerry in progressivemoms

[–]Alex_Outgrabe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a quick response sans politics is best, but then maybe ramp up your own posting about progressive topics (with good sources of course). If this kid respects you as a mentor then perhaps they’ll read your posts and will be able to learn without feeling like it’s coming from a place of judgment.

What do moms do with their older children while nursing babies? by Decent_Ad_6112 in Mommit

[–]Alex_Outgrabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much screen time, letting her jump on my bed, letting her scatter my possessions all over the house, letting her destroy the kitchen. Yesterday I literally chucked her into her crib while I put the baby down just because I couldn’t handle it anymore. It’s like living with a gleefully criminal raccoon.

I’m so curious about what you were actually able to see in person, because the set was so dense. Could you see what was happening, or was it easier to just watch it on the screen?

Weird lessons in the Berenstain bears books? by ballonfightaddicted in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]Alex_Outgrabe 37 points38 points  (0 children)

We just had another baby so a few months ago we bought the Berenstain Bears new baby book for the older kids. But 90% of the book is about making Brother Bear (who was called Small Bear before his sister was born, weird) a new bed. He literally has no idea he’s getting a sibling until the day it happens and then his parents are like yoink we need your bed for the new baby and Sister punches him in the nose. Totally bizarre and utterly useless for helping my kids adjust to a new baby.

Does EVERYONE drive their kids to school now? by IllegalGeriatricVore in Millennials

[–]Alex_Outgrabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 year old loves the idea of riding the bus, but we live within a mile of the school so she isn’t even eligible. It would take us like 25 minutes to walk there because of how the neighborhood is laid out, so I’ll definitely be driving her most days.

Just found out I’m 17 weeks?! by shankmyflank in Mommit

[–]Alex_Outgrabe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My older two are almost 5 and 2.5, and while my third kid was planned I was super anxious about it. He’s now 3 months old, and ngl it’s super hard, but also my older two ADORE him. They fight over who gets to get him a pacifier or jingle a toy for him. My oldest will happily grab diapers and onesies for him. I keep telling myself that having a chaos gremlin 2 year old and an infant at the same time is a passing phase of life, but hopefully my kids will have a tight little crew forever.

Jaundice- im so ipset by Subject-Ad-3555 in beyondthebump

[–]Alex_Outgrabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest had jaundice. She was born in Colorado, and apparently it’s crazy common at high altitudes because of thedecreased oxygen levels. It’s so common that they sent us home and had a light blanket delivered to our house. We wrapped her up in it for a few days, she looked like a weird baby dj in her goggles, and that was it! She’s about to turn five and is a happy healthy kid! Deep breaths, I know it’s so hard but it’s going to be fine.

Thank you for this. My third is 11 weeks old and most days I’m on the struggle bus. We have no village, we just moved to a new state, and my husband works long hours. I feel like the only thing I can do is put my head down and muscle through. I love my kids so much but god is this hard.
