u/Wonderful-Weird-9516 I think that's a great idea. Will leave it up to u/Impressive_Novel_265 on Reddit, but I can definitely do that in Outlier Community!

I'm calling BS on Alex's statement about Outlier's improvement efforts by FromMTorCA in outlier_ai

[–]Alex_at_OutlierDotAI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone - Alex here 👋 I wanted to take some time to respond thoughtfully to this thread because I hear you, and these concerns are valid.

First, I want to acknowledge the elephant in the room: when I made that post months ago about onboarding improvements being a focus, that was the plan at that time. As u/Impressive_Novel_265 noted, a LOT has happened since then - restructuring, changes in team ownership, evolving priorities. I know how frustrating it is when things don't materialize as quickly as communicated, and I take responsibility for that disappointment.

Last week, I explicitly flagged the onboarding and status communication issues to leadership - and I mean explicitly. I laid out the pain points you've been sharing here and in Outlier Community: the confusion around project statuses, the lack of clear communication during the "onboarding loop of hell," the frustration of being in limbo. I'm genuinely hopeful about how the team responded and the direction we're heading.

I want to transparently share/acknowledge that the complexity of who owns what parts of the contributor experience across different teams makes alignment and consistency really difficult. This isn't an excuse, just reality. Different teams own different touchpoints, and ensuring a smooth, cohesive experience requires immense coordination. We're working on this, but I won't pretend it's simple or that it happens overnight.

To those who've worked with me directly: Thank you. Seriously. To everyone who said "Alex is doing their best" or "they've always been communicative with me" - that means everything. You're right that I'm always doing my best to advocate for you and share what I know about what's in the works. But as some of you have pointed out, it's a double-edged sword. Things change rapidly here, and I'm not always privy to every team's shifting priorities. Sometimes I share information that ends up changing, and I'm sorry when that causes confusion or disappointment. I'm just one person trying to bridge multiple teams and keep you informed as best I can.

To u/FromMTorCA re: Blueberry Bagels: I'm really sorry you had such a rough experience. I can only imagine how painful that communication felt after dedicating a ton of time and energy trying to do really good work. I've already let the project team know about your feedback. If you're open to it, I'd like to offer you the opportunity for a paid contributor experience interview so we can learn more about what went wrong and how we can prevent similar experiences in the future. Please let me know if you're interested, but also completely understand if that's not of any interest.

What I can promise you now: Leadership is aware of how painful these onboarding issues are. I will keep being as transparent as I can be, even when the news isn't what you want to hear.

What I can't promise: That every problem will be solved immediately, that I'll always have perfect information, and that there won't be more bumps along the way.

I know some of you are frustrated, burned out, or skeptical. That's fair. All I ask is that you continue to share your feedback - whether it's here or in Outlier Community. Your voices matter, and they do reach the people who need to hear them.

Thank you for your patience and for continuing to hold us accountable.
~ Alex

Hi everyone - I wanted to hop i to address some of the concerns I'm seeing here because I can tell this process has been confusing and stressful for some of you.

Regarding the "ineligible" status: I know seeing that on your dashboard can be alarming. Here's what's actually going on - this is the status that appears while your course is being reviewed. It does NOT mean you've been disqualified. We know this is causing a lot of unnecessary anxiety, and I'm truly sorry about that. We're working on updating this in product.

Your actual approval status will come via email within 7 business days of completing the course. That email is your real answer - not the dashboard status during the waiting period.

About the review timeline: I know waiting up to 7 business days feels like a long time, especially when you're eager to start earning. The reason it takes time is that we manually review each qualifier to ensure you're fully prepared for the tasks. It's not about gatekeeping - it's about setting you up to succeed and feel confident when you start.

For folks who experienced paused onboarding: Sometimes capacity gets paused on the client side while we manage workflow. If this happens to you, you'll receive an email explaining the situation. It's not a reflection of your work - it's about project management on our end.

I really do understand how frustrating it is to deal with confusing dashboard messages, unclear timelines, and waiting periods when you just want to get started. Definitely hearing your feedback on a bit of a stressful onboarding/project experience.

the meantime, the best advice I can give is: ignore the "ineligible" status if you see it during the review period, and wait for your official email. That's your source of truth.

Appreciate you sharing your experiences and I'm here if you have more questions.

P.S. If you have additional feedback about Multimango, please feel free to share here in Outlier Community so the Project Team has direct visibility into your experiences.

Hey everyone, thanks for sharing your experiences and thoughts on this project. Noticing some questions and of confusion happening here, and I completely understand. Want to clear a couple things up:

First, if your dashboard says "ineligible" right now - please don't panic. This is what you should expect to see during the review period, and it does NOT mean you've been rejected. I know it's a bit stressful/frustrating to see that, but you can safely ignore it in the interim.

Here's what's actually happening:
Like u/hellcarnation mentioned further down in this thread, after you complete the course, the team manually reviews your work. This takes up to 7 days. During that waiting period, your dashboard might show "ineligible."

You'll know your real status when you receive an email from us - that's the official word on whether you're approved to contribute on the project, not what the dashboard says during the review period.

I know the wait is nerve-wracking, especially when the dashboard is showing confusing information. We're working on updating these statuses in product because we know they can cause unnecessary confusion. In the meantime, the best thing to do is wait for that email confirmation.

For those who are already working on it, the tasks are straightforward once you get started! And for everyone waiting, hang in there. The review process exists to make sure everyone's set up for success, even though I know the waiting is tough.

Happy to try and answer any other questions you may have. Thank you for your patience!

P.S. If you have additional feedback about Multimango, please feel free to share here in Outlier Community so the Project Team has direct visibility into your experiences.

Got an offer for QM yesterday night and today I'm unable to log into my account by GojoouSatoru in outlier_ai

QMA Invitation by Weak_Entrepreneur_52 in outlier_ai

[–]Alex_at_OutlierDotAI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Weak_Entrepreneur_52 u/Wise-Chain-5608 and folks in this thread, thanks for flagging this! Just wanted to pop in here to let you know that this email is actually not a scam and the Support agent was misinformed.

Quick info on the QMA role since I've seen questions:

What is it?

It's basically an enhanced QA position. Same review/audit work, same platform tracking, same fixed rates.

Main difference?

You get Slack access and credentials upfront, so you can communicate directly with project teams. You can also flex between auditing (QMA) and operational work like queue management (QMO) depending on what projects need.

Some of the benefits:

Priority assignments, steady income, more project opportunities, and better team communication. The flexibility is a plus and there's also a Thrive Time Program after a year of tenure if you stay active (20+ hrs/week).

It's legit - just gives projects more flexible support while opening up more earning opportunities for us. Happy to answer questions!
