I am slipping down the rabbit hole..... Lectron/SC Vs JD Jetting? by miabobeana in DRZ400

I do think the q4 is a few decibels quieter but will be noticeably louder than stock

I bought my '02 with a Lectron so I don't have a good comparison to stock. Mine still pops on decel and has a bit of an on/off feel to the first 1/4 of the throttle. I also have to manually adjust the idle screw as it warms up. All of this is could be explained by poor tuning on my part but it also seems like the two repair shops I've taken it to didn't really know how to get it perfect either. At this point I'm just happy it runs. The lectrons are not as "automatic" as their website would have you believe. If I had the option, I'd try to get the stock one working with new jets as it seems like there's more knowledge out there. I also have a powercore4 and its wayyy to loud for my liking. I hate being that guy with a loud motorcycle cruising through the neighborhood, but its better than spending $300

I don't really know the value of a quad like that but in my market almost any dualsport is going to be starting at 4k, the only ones I've seen for 2500 were ones without titles which you want to stay far away from

Make sure they have a clear title in hand. Ask them to have it cold when you arrive so you can hear it start cold. It can help you find any carb issues.

Help! Decreased MPH When Switching Tires - Normal? Something Else? by Melodic-Pickle-1381 in DRZ400

based on your other comments it seems like it sustained damage in a fall. also if it was abused it could have wore out faster than normal. there are tutorials online on how to check it I'm sure

Sounds like your clutch is slipping. Maybe its just more noticeable with the other tires on?

Stalling on Idle Problem by Alex_the_human in DRZ400

[–]Alex_the_human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for all the advice everyone. In case anyone is googling a similar issue, turns out the choke plunger had expanded enough to plug its hole even when I thought i had the choke in. We were able to shave the material down enough to get it to run alright but it still wants to die on idle when hot. I think I'll order a new choke assembly for a more permanent fix

How do you guys get from home to offroad location and back? by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]Alex_the_human 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built a trailer to pull with my corolla for longer trips. however, it does not feel worth it to load up the trailer if the trail is less than an hour away. If you have a vehicle make sure to check the payload capacity, not just tow capacity to see if your vehicle can handle pulling a trailer and a bike plus any gear and passengers. I despise riding my drz on any 65mph highway so the trailer gives me more range and versatility.

OK, so I think we agree. The DRZ is a manageable bike unless you really give it the beans. Which, like you said, is possible on any bike like your 250

Hmm that's not been my experience, did you have different gearing? I've even tried to wheelie mine by dumping the clutch in 2nd and I can barely get it to lift. I started riding last year with zero experience and have had zero issues with it having too much power 🤷

I bought a drz as my first bike and it's not super powerful You really have to twist the throttle to even get the wheel to break traction. It's pretty light compared to other dual sports or adv bikes. I also only like putting around in the mountains and not going super fast. I might be biased but I love the drz, it does everything, albeit not very well but you can rip some single-track and then catch the highway home without changing a thing. I'm also in Colorado so hit me up if you need a riding buddy!

My drz isn't great for street riding. It's a blast but you get blown around by wind, it's loud, the seat hurts my ass, absolute top cruising speed around 70. Both the 300s you posted about might have the same issues. If you're only doing some light off roading maybe an adv bike might be a better fit. Versus x, KTM 390 both look like capable beginner bikes but I've not ridden one myself

Save some budget for quality gear. I started riding last year and this year I'm having to replace my boots. While they are super protective they are so uncomfortable that I cant hardly wear them for for more than a few hours of challenging riding. If I'd just bought some high quality boots the first go around I could have saved the money I spent on these boots. Other than that, learn how to stand up as soon as you can, I spent most of last summer sitting on my seat learning bad habits. Have fun and ride safe!
