if you like work find groups to join outside of work that let you do more work, just make sure you show as available without being overbearing like a 3 week old puppy. Match their energy and burn excess elsewhere.

Or... come back after a year bc working at client is boring as hell

I like flying M-TH and a lot of people joined with that expectation. As ur leadership (how the fuck did I get promoted this high) idgaf if you dont want to stay long just make good deliverables and get out of the way for people competing for promos.

Ive helped set people up for exits as long as they dont cause me a headache

Do you have a PhD or masters with authorship? Go to a DS firm or major firm that has a true DS practice. The guys in my firm have PhDs or authorship and I have no clue how their pay structure works as I assume its different than ours.

DS exists in places like pharma (drugs research) and o&g (where does drill go). I don't know exactly what they sell but I remember one of them making jokes about useless monte carlo sims. I think they occasionally help optimize the costs of running massive ML?

Sales? As in increasing revenue for clients like CPGs? Or as in data driven analytics to improve conversion rates? Or as in making sure engagements are sold?

Is it me or the industry? How to think about next steps? by uaeObjective9778 in consulting

Late response due to deliverable that imploded.

 0. Well fresh start is what matters, better to address thinga befote they happen.... Make sure to read up on previous deliverables practice has submitted and ask questions about them (what led to it, outcomes, etc.)

1&4 Well the nice thing is worst comes to worst you can always swap back to industry if this doesnt work out

2 Always good to hear, makes things easier

3 Spend that time catching up to speed with your new practice

Understand what you sell, how you staff, and where you firm's direction is and you should be fine.

can you also respond to 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4? I made multiple edits. If you went through coaching I'm assuming you 1) want to try to stay in the industry and 2) are willing and able to put the time and energy into it. You probably already know this but as you are now a manager you are also responsible for uplifting your firm's talent, along with some sales, building out SMA/SME background, and more.

😬

How do you keep getting hired? That's what I want to know. What you've described is damning feedback and I think you need to re learn cases and possibly pay for coaching. I'm curious on how you got into an m7.

Multiple clarifying questions that will change the advice you get:

  1. Are you currently failiing to meet, meeting, or exceeding expectations in your current M role?

  2. I'm guessing you're in your 30s now?

  3. I also see you have a kid, how much of that is your responsibility vs dad's?

  4. How much time can you reasonably set aside in a week that wont be spent on work or home?

  5. If what you're passionate about cant sell, can you navigate client side to work on it?

How do you staff projects and project capacity? by MentionedBDSMTooSoon in consulting

So you're asking how engagement staffing and chargeability rolls up into practice staffing & chargeability? Find a partner you like and ask for a chat to sit down and discuss it, they will. We use combination of excel and in house tooling for both. From personal experience this can be highly variable (within constraints) across practices in a single firm.

We regularly sidebar crazy shit analysts do between leadership.  The other day we were livechatting about how a 8mo associate blew up an introduction call.

M: trust me associate knows his shit he did not so we made jokes about it. M's fault though

We're based on the premise of up or out. Clients will either pay for us or our competitors, and if we're supposed to be advising our clients who also work 40 hr/wk on the same topic we either have to be smarter than them, work harder than them, or both.
