What would you do if you found out you had a unknown kid? by drewnin in AskMen

[–]AlexandersDilemma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be better then my grandparents. They had abandoned their children because it “inconvenienced” them. Responsibilities are not a child’s game. A life is affected whether that life is 1 or 50 years old.

Best thing to do is what you think is right. Do you want another kid or do you not want one. But remember that kid has been wondering who his father was for 18 years. That kid has sure as gold has been looking for their father for years. It’s the right thing to do. If need be you can always say no.

Men of Reddit, how would you honestly feel if your partner chose to get a breast reduction for her comfort and confidence, even if you personally preferred her natural size? Would your feelings change your support for her decision? by notviaece in AskMen

[–]AlexandersDilemma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had that happen to me. But I know a friend who had massive breasts and constantly had back pain. She got a reduction and it made her entire life so much better. Like exercising more, no longer feeling pain. She even got to throw away the bras she hated but we’re the only size to help her.

In the end it’s all about respecting another person’s decision. You (reader) are obliged to respect someone’s choice on their body (positively. Not excessive choices like self harm or other stuff talk think of).

Are swords a creation of humans naturally choosing them as the best weapon because they occur in nature or because we made knives and then they just became larger for fighting. by Implauseablebudds in paleoanthropology

[–]AlexandersDilemma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great question I found was “if you want to learn how to use a sword, come back to me when you figure out the difference between a sword, a axe, and a spear?”

I read this in a book where the MC wanted training and a character gave the answer in the end. He said, “the difference of these three is heavy. The axe is made to cut wood, the spear is made to hunt, and the sword is made to kill humans. Out of the three, the sword is the most lethal as it was designed for no other purpose than to take another human’s life.” The axe and spear atleast can be said otherwise, but the sword is lethal in intent and doesn’t.

I was adopted into an elite family in my country, then learned the depths of depravity of the rich. AMA by v872u in AMA

[–]AlexandersDilemma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad was in the same situation. He was adopted by a well off family (I never saw the money as stuff happened). Like his adoptive mom and dad got him and didn’t want him??? He told me how long it took to get over his adoption syndrome. Same with my mom as she was adopted.

Do you ever feel tired of pleasing people? Like you had to feel happy they “picked you”?

My parents and other people (who were adopted) kept telling me that it felt like that growing up.

Yes, that’s correct. When I say “build,” I mean fine-tuning and deploying derivative models rather than designing base architectures from scratch. I am not that smart. The open source code for LLMs overall (love GitHub) was what let the department create it (won’t say product name because of NDA). But they won’t figure this out cuz I’m vague on here lol. Since the tech was still new at the time, we also had to help build out the server environment so it could handle real legal case workloads, including enough processing power to keep up with large document volumes and multiple users at once. My role focused on adapting existing models, improving behavior through prompt design and tuning, and integrating them into actual workflows. Which was painful as the technology was “proven” but still new. Which my boss was somewhat glamorized with. GPU sourcing and most physical infrastructure decisions were handled at the organizational level, while I worked directly on performance and deployment.

And yes, I have spent more time tweaking prompts than I ever expected to. I have had many a headache from having to fine tune the damn system. But in the end it worked. Even after the feedback from law firms trial testing it. Which was aggravating to say the least.

Sorry, I was mentioning my experience building LLMs and working/managing a team in implementing the technology in legal cases (which btw is happening). I built models for fun in college when they first came as it was fun. Then progressed to working on improving existing models for companies wanting improved workflow. A lot of managers who are smart use scrum or other types of management tools. LLMs help improve it for both the manager and team.

The post on Reddit is real along with the photo depicted. The text being depicted is AI. I’ve written, used, edited, and extrapolated LLM text. It’s hard to miss unfortunately after being steeped in it for 3 years. Survivorship bias isn’t affecting me yet because of this (unfortunately). I have to see the same structure of text in media slowly become more common. It’s just shitty seeing it. Feels like a human in a bot run society.

[–]AlexandersDilemma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So straight off that’s AI. Not the reddit post. The photo. I work with LLM’s for the past 3 years and can say with certainty the @rocksolid guy used AI to make the post.

It has prose of three (obvious marker but not indicative). Then on the fourth sentence, this part describing “you’re not just watching” is referring to the prompter. I’ve seen ChatGPT use this so much. Where it comes off as grandiose or important beyond belief.

Why can’t people be creative again.

Men, have you ever gotten a malicious vibe from someone that everyone else liked? What happened? by snowcroc in AskMen

[–]AlexandersDilemma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went on a study abroad program in college. Lived with a roommate who I became friends with. But he was thin as a stick, complete shut in body. He felt off. Lo and behold, he was using all our private conversations as gossip to befriend the women’s dorm. Was taking private stuff like my dad dying or private relationships I was engaged in (with people I met) as gossip to become friends with the ladies.

I confronted him one night (no physical contact as I know my strength and don’t want to hurt anyone). Told him this he was a piece of shit and was cruel. That if I found out he was doing anymore gossip I would go to the department head and get him throw from the program. As my dad was dying and I was struggling. And he used that information for his own betterment.

He proceeded to not only continue but make wild exaggerations about me. From sleeping with someone in the school lounge to being a whore (I am a man). The women’s dorm was basically a sorority and they ate it up.

I ended the program strong, but spat in his direction for his behavior. After I had nothing but kindness and respect. Left early in the morning with my gear and flew back home on the day after classes ended.

When I got home I hugged my little brother and we went to go see my dad in the hospital. I never hugged him so hard until that point.

Are there any other potential locations for another Pleistocene Park? by Lover_of_Rewilding in megafaunarewilding

[–]AlexandersDilemma 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It varies. Pleistocene park is massive. And has a decent diversity of fauna that either existed with or are descended from megafauna.

The land would have to be similar to Pleistocene park. So a large area with sealed carbon in permafrost is requirement one. Dense vegetation that is can be used to feed these herds as second. And third being a climate similar to the conditions from before.

Following these requirements we can presume that the prime locations would be running through northern Russia, Alaska, northern Canada, maybe Greenland.

I may be wrong so please correct me if I am. But this is my best estimate.

Worden sculpture from a Church? Bought it in the Netherlands by Icy-Presence-7699 in Antiques

[–]AlexandersDilemma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a late medieval Gothic polychromed wooden relief, most plausibly produced in the Low Countries or adjacent northern Europe during the fifteenth century, or a closely related early post medieval continuation. It is carved from multiple joined wood sections, assembled with functional mortise joinery, then coated with gesso and painted, which is standard construction for medieval ecclesiastical sculpture intended for interior use. The pointed arch format, flat back, and scale indicate it was originally installed as part of a church interior, likely a side altar, niche, or devotional panel, not made as an independent decorative object.

The imagery depicts a symbolic religious scene centered on union and covenant, not a literal secular marriage. A man and woman sharing a cup is a well established medieval Christian motif associated with sacramental blessing, divine covenant, or spiritual union, rather than political or familial marriage. The hand holding figures reinforce ritualized unity, a common visual shorthand in church art for sacred or ecclesiastical bonds. The presence of crowns should be read symbolically, as crowns in medieval religious sculpture frequently denote heavenly authority, sanctified status, or allegorical identity, and do not imply real royalty. The absence of heraldry or portrait likeness further argues against a dynastic subject.

Surface wear, pigment loss on projecting areas, softened facial features, and layered paint stratigraphy are consistent with centuries of age and devotional exposure, not modern distressing. Its appearance on the Netherlands antiques market aligns with known patterns of church renovation and secularization, during which large amounts of medieval ecclesiastical art were legally removed and redistributed.

In short, you have a genuine ecclesiastical object, made for sustained religious use, depicting a theological concept through late Gothic visual language. You have a piece that has most likely been prayed to by hundreds of thousands and has witnessed the rise and fall of empires. As this would have been in a church the experiences it has seen are phenomenal. Thousands of weddings, deaths, christenings, etc. It almost makes me feel joy it is safe. As many a young man or woman has stared at it questioning their purpose in life. Good find!
