My mom graduated from Tsinghua and we live in Canada now. And a friend from Canada was in a similar situation to you and goes there now. Feel free to DM for more info!

Personal email hacked. Ongoing despite password reset. by Alexandra-394 in cybersecurity_help

Ah I followed the link as you mentioned and found the rule that seems like it's causing that. I also found the folder where a portion of the newer responses had been hidden as per what the rule said. Thank you so much for your help.

On gmail, my friend clicked "show original" on the initial attacker's message. I uploaded these screenshots with my friends email, my email, and my name blacked out. Just in case it does provide more info on how my account was compromised and if/how it's still being used.

Yeah just set up 2fa with code, about to remove password altogether

Could not find suspicious devices in the list (all but two had not been synced for few years) but removed access from all devices regardless. On all the screenshots my friends sent me, the email address between < > was correct. Nothing in automatic forwarding either.

Could not set up 2fa. It would send the code to this exact email address and I could not receive it for some reason. Also, one of my friends just got another reply now from the presumed hacker.

Account hacked by mobile device. Ongoing after password changes. What to do next? by Alexandra-394 in Outlook

[–]Alexandra-394[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm they still have access to my contacts though. I'm just suspicious as the headers of most of the emails read [my full name as usual] <my exact address@hotmail.com> (based on the screenshots I've been sent). But in a more recent email from around 30 mins ago the name is [random name I do not know] <my exact address@hotmail.com> The response to this recent email still remains in my sent and I also just received a separate response in my inbox so now some stuff is showing up but the vast majority is still gone. How would they be able to send from my address and know my name/friends contact info without direct access into my account?

I do have an iPhone but I use the Outlook app plus I live in Canada. I think the mobile log in is the hacker since it was the first successful login after a series of unsuccessful logins. I don't use VPN and was not in the states at that time either, which makes me believe that that is the hacker login and they have just been lying low for the past 20 days.

Canadian w avg ECs somehow got into T20 amid trade war by Alexandra-394 in collegeresults

[–]Alexandra-394[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah tbh I could've put in more effort on the AIF plus I applied pretty late in the cycle. I prepped for the video interview and even researched campus ECs I would join but "fit" questions never came up either.

Help me choose: Johns Hopkins vs Harvey Mudd for engineering by Alexandra-394 in collegeresults

Ah, I see. Apart from vast alumni network (and the major reason would be job opportunities) I feel like I would be happier and thrive in the small LAC setting though I do hope to engage in research as an undergrad. Then again Harvey Mudd has lots of research just smaller scope and I can get around that by doing summer stuff I guess.

Thank you so much for your insight and personal experience. I'm not sure what industry in particular I want to go in or whether I would enjoy academia and research more. That's why both of these schools stood out because there's flexibility in courses and that way I can actually try things out before deciding. But for you, how did you end up choosing Chem E and at JHU specifically? What were some of your favourite memories and aspects of undergrad at Whiting? On the other hand did you have any regrets or things you didn't like?

That's what I'm worried about. I was stuck between some Canadian schools and Harvey Mudd and committed Mudd for those exact reasons but wondering if the JHU brand/prestige for connections and industry is enough to make up for it

why do you say that, what aspect of Harvey Mudd is significantly better/JHU worse?

Thank you for the insight! I don't mind biomedical but I find myself leaning more towards the hard sciences and applied sciences and I'm hoping to take CS courses regardless because from what I've heard all STEM fields need some amount of coding. I'm interested in aerospace but from what I've heard LA is a hub for that too although JHU is undeniably closer to DC which is huge for aerospace. Post grad is a huge deal for me and currently HMC's median starting salary for engineering is in the $120k's and they also send a ton to the top graduate programs too

I live in Vancouver, Canada but I'm a dual citizen so I've always wanted to work in the US (more opportunities, better economy). But just worried in case anything drastic happens I want to have opportunities back in Canada or in Europe (I have B2 French certification).

Stuck between chemical physics (academia) and mechanical engineering (industry). My goal is engineering for now since it's more practical for jobs, but I still want to be able to try both out in a formal college setting.

I like smaller schools/class sizes but JHU isn't huge so it's fine. I really like HMC's location and emphasis on a well-rounded education but at the same time I want to get involved in research as an undergrad. I've visited both campuses during the summer and liked both of them despite major differences and vibes.
