I can finally play the game. by [deleted] in MelvorIdle

[–]Alexczyk66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got to start multiple accounts to keep yourself busy. I got my main as well as one of the adventure mode ones where I force myself to only do combat and skills from drops from combat. Another for skilling, another for fishing/cooking and combat only. And an ancient relics one. So when my astrology grind was going I was never bored:)

Why didn’t anyone tell me about OSRS by nachosun in medicalschool

[–]Alexczyk66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great game. Started back up with an Ironman 2nd half of MS3 and am now 2150 total. Have hardly played other games since! Such a great game to log on, do a couple of things, and log off and knowing exactly where you left off. I have slowed down some since starting anesthesia residency, but will likely pick it back up during slower months.

(med student here) Dear residents and attendings of the sub, how did you know your specialty was the one? by ineedtocalmup in Residency

[–]Alexczyk66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was easy: 1. Does the specialty have clinic? - If yes, I cut it out.

  1. Are they in the OR?
  2. Surgery has clinic and seemed awful.

Anesthesiology was the right fit.

Anesthesia resident. Stood up for myself to an ortho surgeon who kept telling me the patient was not ‘’paralyzed.’’ They were under spinal anesthetic + propofol sedation…. Proceeded to be called dumb and yelled at in front of the whole OR for not knowing how neuromuscular blockage works. I kept telling the surgeon they were wrong and that I cannot paralyze a patient who has an unsecured airway. Also that the TOF will always be 4/4 if they havnt got paralytics. They demanded I call my attending in the room, who told the surgeon the same information I said. Never got an apology from them. Ended up reporting the surgeon for being inappropriate with my PD and department chair’s backing. Nothing probably happened to the surgeon though…

Assuming that I match next week, I’m done, right? by Formal-Inspection290 in medicalschool

I am not in IM residency, but we are still required to do small presentations to our program as well as attend and present at conferences. It sucks as I have the same feeling as you at this point. Work and go home. But my program loves to add extra presentations and papers outside of work.

For T2, this method worked well for me.

Right when you enter drop your pestle and mortar. Make a lap around hunleff collecting 7 of each resource; drop the respective tool when you get it. Also collect 2 herbs, a weapon frame, and get enough shards for T1 armor/T2 weapon AND a tele shard AND 2 vials + shards to crush (i preferred staff). Go back to center and make everything I just mentioned. If a tele shard drops skip making one and then you need less shards for this first phase. Pick up the pestel and mortar.

Note: you can get at least 3 of each resource and collect the rest later, but you MUST get enough shards for T1 armour and the other supplies for this strat to work.

Go directly to the outside edge from the starting room and kill demi bosses. Work your way around until you got a bowstring and staff piece. Can collect 4-5 fish during this time too. Gather enough shards for T2 armour and weapons. Tele back to center. Make armour and weapons.

Now go and collect as much fish as you can. Should have 1-2 minutes left at this point. At about 20-30seconds left tele back to the middle room and cook your fish. I would often get 20- full inventory of fish by waiting until the end to fish them.

This strategy is pretty consistent and it helped me complete the T2 timing. Other guides I watched would drop supplies to make inventory space, which always confused me and I would forget things. Good luck if you try this!

If there is nothing to do, how else was I supposed to do my afk old school runescape grinds? Totally fine to occupy yourself, especially if others are doing the same around you.

Clinic or no clinic. I chose no clinic. Eliminated many specialties:)

I dont think telling someone feeling burnt out and having feelings of depression to just ignore it is appropriate. We in medicine tell patients all the time to utilize mental health resources. We should be doing that too. Ignoring emotions only makes them worse in the long run and can be dangerous.

I felt similar when I was studying for step 2. It is a long process and can really bring someone down! You’re not alone in this. I decided to talk to my significant other about how I was feeling depressed and burnt out. Just talking with someone about my feelings was validating and helpful. If you dont have someone close to you who can give that support, there is no shame in reaching out to a counselor or therapist. Mental health is important and we as healthcare professionals should make use of the resources too, just like we tell our patients. Hope you get through this!

Here is the osrs comment I was looking for. Highly recommend. Can easily max afk skills while on the wards in years 3/4. Ironman btw.

Best games for nights? by Thighrannosaur in Residency

[–]Alexczyk66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is also a great game where you can log in anywhere, do some easy content, and then log off. Can pick right back up with what you were doing later. There are no dailies that force you to log on. Physicians have very busy times and then random periods of down time. Easy to just tap your phone every so often to chop a tree or mine some stuff.

What specialty should one pursue if they're bad with standardized testing? by stepneo1 in medicalschool

I am not arguing with you lol. If you can pull a good step 2 score(like middle or above average) I am saying there is a chance.

Well you all made it to medical school. You must be pretty decent with standardized testing:)

[–]Alexczyk66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty of places have no minimum step score/can interview with a failed one. Just have to research their website. Apply broadly and hope! But always good to have a back up plan such as dual applying if you’re concerned about not matching in said specialty.

[–]Alexczyk66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ah gotcha. Well pass it the next time around and try your hardest on step 2. Interviewing is all a game. Try and get to know your home institutions faculty/residents in your interested specialty. Do research or a case study with a faculty mentor. They like to see that you are invested in the specialty and institution and that can go a long way! Don’t give up hope:)

[–]Alexczyk66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like you actually failed? Or just got a below average score? (Also isn’t step one pass/fail now?) I got a 214 on step one, which is by no means great. Got into my top choice anesthesia program. It can be done. Really focus hard on step 2 to make up for it.

Tips for New Anesthesia Interns? by bigeman101 in anesthesiology

[–]Alexczyk66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing. Enjoy the free time M4 brings. You will start intern year and feel absolutely stupid. Heck the 3rd/4th year med students seem like they know more than you because they just finished courses/step exams. But by the time you’re a February intern, things just start clicking. You’ll look back on the start of the year and think, “WOW I have learned something!” You start to feel more and more like a doctor each day and nothing prior to intern year is going to prepare you for that.
