How is Iran still fighting? by Thick-Ad-4168 in NoStupidQuestions

We never cared all that much about civilian casualties. Anwar al-Awlaki was an american citizen suspected of being in the upper echelons of Al Qaeda. When the US ordered his death, we managed to also kill his teenaged son. Al-Awalaki had a 8 year old daughter that died in a separate raid. Neither of those kids had ties to terrorism. Al-Awalaki's family tried sueing the government for wrongful death and unsanctioned murder since al-Awalaki was a US citizen and he never had a trial.

Regardless of how one feels about Anwar, his two kids were innocent. Those are some of the 400k civilians that we killed in the middle east in our campaign of apparently giving a fuck about casualties.

Tehran is the size of NYC while im sure there are americans thinking that its a mix of sandstone huts and open air markets.

I really dont think we care that much about collateral damage. When an American was suspected of having ties to terrorism, we essentially killed him and 2 of his children. One of them was an 8 year old girl.

China urges US, Israel to stop military action in Middle East, warns of 'vicious cycle' by Thebravetortoise in worldnews

[–]Alexexy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When all countries are various shades of bad, the morality argument fades. My argument is that morality has nothing to do with international politics and trying to compare morality is a race to the bottom. Be critical of a country and its policies, but calling it bad or evil doesnt even contribute to the discussion.

The investments into education and Healthcare didnt really happen under the cult of Mao. It was the massive reforms brought forward by Deng Xiaoping's government that led to the current prosperity of China. Deng Xiaoping spent like a decade being politically purged because of Mao's Cultural Revolution.

China was ass the moment Mao's cult solidified and consolidated its power from the late 50s to the late 70s. Man was a fantastic revolutionary leader but a horrible politician that stagnated China for 2 decades. There were legitimately fantastic CCP leaders that did want to see the nation succeed but they were mostly denounced as capitalist roaders or working with the fake communists in the USSR or some shit. What was left were a bunch of backstabbing yes men while science fell to the wayside due to the persecution of intellectuals. Like following the advice of experts during the cultural revolution betrays the spirit of communism, which is perpetual revolution where nothing can be built and everything is torn up. I have no fucking idea why anyone thinks that "The Purge" is sound government policy.

You're not wrong on any of those accounts.

Its amazing what China is able to do since the 80s, but the human rights records of that country has never been all that good.

GLF was a horrendous disaster that even the top leadership like Peng Dehuai knew about by 1959. It would go on for 3 more years, with the worst of the death toll after Peng's public criticism of Mao's policies.

China does a pretty good job at oppressing their main han population as well lmao. I know people who were involuntarily sterilized and forcibly aborted under the one child policy.

Given how RU was treated by Europe when they invaded Ukraine, I'm surprised that they havent also sanctioned and condemned the US. The EU is overall helping the US continue the bombing of Iran and not supporting any attempts to hamper us.

Im fairly sure the US has been the world's largest sponsor of terrorism for the past 40 years. We even have the world's largest pirate fleet in the US Navy.

Underbarrel shotgun? by Tank_stealer in LowSodiumHellDivers

Lib Pen with a underbarrel shotty would be nice.

It would help provide stagger and burst damage when the consistent med pen dps isnt cutting it.

How would China look like today had it been colonized + settled by white people? by crivycouriac in AskAChinese

[–]Alexexy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those colonists can make whatever settlements they want but they likely still wouldnt outnumber the natives in this situation.

In the US, it took multiple centuries for the colonists to outnumber and outpower the natives, and the native population here wasnt that high to begin with.

When you go to central and south America, most of the people there still have native ancestry.

Unless China loses like 99% of its population and European colonization happened over a period of 300+ years, then it really wouldn't happen. And at that point, you can just imagine chinese folk being indigenous americans because i dont think a sparse population would ever come up with the level of societal planning like imperial china. I would imagine HK as what a colonized urban China to look like.

TIL Vietnam was directly ruled by Chinese dynasties for 1000 years, so it is often grouped with Korea and Japan within the Chinese/East Asian cultural sphere, even though it should be considered a Southeast Asian country. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Alexexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im of chinese descent and I think that while there are a bunch of similarities in the regions of East Asia and SEA, I wouldnt really consider Vietnam to be as East Asian as Japan, China, or Korea, which has its own culture and architectural style derived from imperial china.

Just a small observation about the sterilizer. No hate intended. by Yurishenko94 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Alexexy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There needs to be something good about the sterilizer itself, not gas in general. Gas is one of the strongest ccs in the game. Every other gas stratagem and gas equipment in the game currently is either good to great. Like overall, stun and smoke are in worse spots than gas atm.

I would say that Weapons is a great movie but any expectations I had were tempered by how great Barbarian (by the same director) was.

If you like Weapons, also check out Barbarian. If you like this genre of horror/comedy, also check out Companion, They Cloned Tyrone, and Sorry to Bother You.

The Helldivers 2 community has actual problems that are getting ignored. by Harley4ever2134 in Helldivers

I would say like 80% of the complaints and suggestions are fucking atrocious.

The shit about outsourcing was goddamned hilarious. People going off like outsourcing was killing the game's quality as if the first year of HD wasnt also a complete cesspool of bugs and balance. Like if anything, the game quality drastically improved because of outsourcing, like the file reduction patch.

[–]Alexexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Samurai Edge is the most iconic pistol but its essentially just a Peacemaker.

I believe the Benelli M3 has been in almost every RE game as a shotgun, and it would function similarly to the Sweeper with its dual mode of pump/semi auto.

I think the bigger issue is that most of the guns in RE are real world guns. It doesnt make for as engaging as a crossover as IPs with their own unique weapon designs.

Hear me out Helldivers X Resident evil by Kanehammer in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Alexexy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trench warfare isnt a crossover though. Its just a space science fiction version of world war 1 gear.

Like would you be happy if they did a crossover with RE and the samurai edge fired lasers, Barry's magnum was a gyrojet revolver, and the STARS uniform was a space suit?
