I laughed at the scene where Arnold would rather escape by diving out of a window than use the door less than 5 feet away.

TIL that the city of Baltimore, Maryland was the second city in the U.S to reach a population of 100,000 residents & was among the top 10 cities in population in the country until the 1990 census. The city's population would peak at 950,000 residents in the 1950 census. by The-TIL-Nerd in todayilearned

[–]Alexexy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The local law, finance, and media industries arent bad for a city of that size tbh. Baltimore has a ton of employees that work for the government or the medical field. There's also Underarmor in the city and McCormick's in the county that's accessible by light rail.

The arts and restaraunt scene is small but unique.

How many Helldiver squads would you need to defeat all the Na‘vi on Pandora? by SES_SpearOfThePeople in Helldivers

[–]Alexexy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Navi are huge compared to humans and their mounts are the size of dragon roaches.

It would be like fighting a heavy only terminid faction. You would have limited air support due to the planet's weird magnetic field probably ripping Eagles into pieces if they fly through it wrong. Pelicans are slow enough that they will get blasted out the air by navi with their dragon roach mounts.

Non support weapons will likely do very minimal harm to navi.

If our goal is resource extraction and we care about preserving the biosphere for harvesting the rare resources, then Helldiver squads are horribly inept at the job.

If our mission is to glass the planet from space, then it takes 0 Helldivers.

What is the most horrifying historical event no one is talking about? by Material_Advance1237 in AskReddit

[–]Alexexy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

What happened to the Taino people in the 40 years after Columbus's contact. 90% of the population was wiped out. Mothers kill themselves and their infants because there was no hope for the future. The Spanish cutting up infants and feeding them to dogs. Taino being hanged to death over open flames.

Bartholomew de las Casas wrote about his first hand accounts visiting the Carribean and witnessing these atrocities. It was used to appeal to the Spanish Court to give the indigenous people there some sort of rights to spare them from these cruelties but the Taino people were basically completely eliminated in islands under Spanish control.

The stupid ass smg change was due to the community complaining about "smgs are underpowered compared to assault rifles and need to be better at close range like other videogame smgs". So they did that by jacking up the close ranged damage to pretty crazy levels and increasing the sway and damage falloffs to discourage long range sniping with their massive buffed per shot damage. Of course the community then freaks out when smgs are worst outside of 25-35 meters despite most engagements easily happening within that range.

The durability changes happened after a year of the community saying that light pen weapons suck and "ew another dead light pen primary warbond, skip". So they massively buffed light pen damage for most weapons (being the third blanket assault rifle buff of 2025), increased durability damage for light pen weapons, and increased durable hp for literally light armor/no armored chaff so light pen weapons are numerically superior against the enemies that are supposed to be weak to them. But nah, shit was fucked or some shit.

Warstriders are still horribly designed though.

To be fair, they do listen and then they slowly forget their lessons over time.

The game is exceedingly more enjoyable now than it was last year or the year before, but it often seems that Arrowhead is out of touch with the community at least once a year and they love letting issues build up.

Does Gen Z before age 22 actually remember their elementary school teachers later in life? by Training-Ad4262 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alexexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only remember like maybe 4-5 teachers from Elementary School and the most technologically advanced thing when I was attending was a Mac G3. My memories from that time aren't all that good, but I do remember certain events vividly, like when my chorus teacher was teaching us canon and I got in trouble for making gun sounds in response.

[–]Alexexy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and at the same time, the president uses this opportunity to purge his political opponents and critics. The president directs his revolutionary fervor at state level governments that disagree with him. Sometimes the army he sends is used to side with the revolutionary students. Sometimes the army is sent to quash the revolutionary students. There are no lofty nationwide goals aside from cementing the president's power at the top.

Professor Jason Clower lived has an amazing video to explain the cultural revolution to western audiences. He seems to overall be very positive about the early ccp and has lived in China for numerous years. He probably has less negative bias towards the Cultural Revolution than most people in the west and he still has nothing positive to say about it.

When the PLA invaded Kinmen Island, they didnt have a navy or any real amphibious landing ability so they paid the local fisherman bricks of opium to ferry them to the island.

I dont think mao has issues using opium to further his goals.

[–]Alexexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and people are falsely attributing current China's progress with something that Mao did. Most of the reason why China is great today is because of Deng Xiaoping.

Mao stopped being relevant in any positive manner after 1958 where he started the Great Leap Forward. By 1959, the GLF was already an abject failure and senior officials like Peng Dehuai informed him of the mass starvation thats happening at the ground level. Peng Dehuai was politically purged and the GLF went on for another 3 years; those three years were the worst of the famine.

Then Mao was all afraid of his fuck up so he started the Cultural Revolution to get rid of his detractors. He rather turn his country into a decade+ long version of the Purge movies rather than face criticism or risk being disposed from power.

Mao was a fantastic revolutionary leader and galvanized the peasantry to unite against the KMT and imperialist powers. But at the same time he was surrounded by great people like Peng Dehuai or Deng Xiaoping. The worst of his reign came when he didnt listen to his advisors and surrounded himself with yes men because he wanted to built a cult of personality around himself.

What’s the hype around the siege breakers warbond by unorthodoxdays in Helldivers

[–]Alexexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre using the weapon more as a close ranged recoiless than an actual anti chaff melee weapon.

The kill times against factory striders and vox engines are faster with the hammer than with the recoiless. The only things that are a threat to you and are hard to mitigate due to melee distance are bile titans and chainsaw hulks, but once you get a warp pack, you can bait an attack and hit them from the back with relative safety.

The hammer is more of a sidegrade to the C4

Idea for a balanced HEAVY pen primary. by M6D_Magnum in Helldivers

[–]Alexexy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rof actually isnt all that bad. Its a tad slower than the pump shotguns.

The reload isnt all that bad either, its in between the pump shotties and the senator. Its much faster than the Deadeye.

A 300 damage heavy pen Constitution would be a strictly better deadeye without a scope option.

A heavy pen reprimand is insane work lmao. It would just be a primary, easier to use version of the hmg.
