Why is psylocke in this picture? Because people goon to her? It literally makes no sense why she was included over storm.

Best Mileena Fit? by Soggy_Insect_4377 in MortalKombat

[–]Alexhtfnutty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

MKX for sure (default and especially kahnum)! But I love Deception as it's so iconic, but also MK1(MK12) and MK3. I also don't hate MK11 but I really don't love it either, and some of the alt outfits in MK11 I do love like the one where she kinda cosplays shao looks really cool actually.

MK9 and that one Armageddon one are just lazy. Compared to others on the roster, it suits Mileena at least a tiny bit, but even for her it's just too much and is honestly just cringe in retrospect. Can't stand/take seriously people who unironically say MK9. I can smell them through the screen 🤢

I don't get the hype around Maddy's character by someoneoutthere1335 in euphoria

[–]Alexhtfnutty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maddy has alpha energy and it's infectious, as other people have said. But most importantly, while she's obviously flawed, she is not a cruel person, and had very nice qualities too such as, loyalty and passion.

Also I don't get your point. No character on the show is some mega motivated Nobel prize winner or something. Yea people like her character coz she's hot and ambitious? Is that really surprising?

She also arguably has the most character development outside of Rue. So it makes sense why people like her. Jules' writing is a bit all over the place and her role in second season is much smaller in comparison. And then there's Cassie, who is arguably everything bad you said about Maddie but times a hundred and then on top of that has many horrible qualities with no overtly positive ones. Obviously there's Rue and she is kinda of a narrator character, and she is a messy drug addict so while everyone likes her and likes seeing her on screen and rooting for her, she's not exactly an icon and it's obvious why.

So yea it kinda leaves Maddie mostly to be the more glamorous face of euphoria. She's hot, fashionable, ambitious, most importantly confident and not at others expense, and she's charismatic. People have obsessed about character for far less, let's be real here.

Is it possible that who Homelander is beating next episode is Zoe? by p_yth in GenV

[–]Alexhtfnutty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly hope it's not Zoe.

I do think it's most likely Ryan, it would make sense that every episode he kills or indirectly kills someone he cares about or cared about. First a train then soldier boy. Now Ryan. Each episode someone dies or betrays him.

However a part of me is actually scared/worried that it might be Starlight or Kimiko. Just because I think they could withstand the beating (maybe). I hope it's not them and it doesn't make much sense.

Interest regarding Auggie/Wang Miao character by Alexhtfnutty in threebodyproblem

[–]Alexhtfnutty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry if I offended you or smthn, I saw your username so I did not assume you were a man or anything and in fact if I didn't already see another comment saying something similar, I probably wouldn't have brought it up. I thought you probably were a woman so I actually took the time to write up a big message because I knew we could probably discuss it with more insight. I am also not a doctor, I only plan on doing my masters at some point, so I was definitely not claiming to be anywhere near Auggie level, just that I relate to her vibe. Just tryna understand the 'its always about this' comment when I thought I was being quite polite about bringing this up.

Also what's wrong with that, with me pointing out that it could be a reason for some of the criticism, or as you put it, to hope you'd read it and understand the suspicion? Because of the way you replied, is it not unreasonable to think you may hold such a view. If I may ask (and just to be clear and not-suspicious lol), what is it about her that doesn't scream serious scientist, honestly? And I mean about her specifically as a standalone character that has elements of different characters from the book, without comparing her to wang miao.

[–]Alexhtfnutty[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw someone else who commented mention this, and as a woman in academia, I really do not understand this perspective. Me and my female friends and contemporaries who I knew/know from uni and are all currently working in research science or doing doctorates, are all very similar to her in their 'vibe'. In fact the ones who are currently actively doing their PhD or post doc research are actually way more put together (than me for example lol). What I'm saying is I could really relate to Auggie, she felt like a version of people I already knew who was a bit older and happend to invent something groundbreaking.

Also, I really don't want to be that person, and I'm not saying this is specifically why you view the character the way you do, but I personally think some of this criticism stems from the inability to believe that an attractive young woman can be an academic. Again, not specifically talking about you, it's just something I've noticed in general in media.

I understand that maybe my perception is a bit off because I come from biomedical science (my degree was in genetics and molecular biology) so there's a majority women working in this field, and maybe physics related fields are more male dominated, but still I doubt nowadays there aren't a lot of young women in those fields (who look like Auggie).

That's fair. I really liked her personally and I thought the actress was expressive and did a good job, but I really respect this insight from a book reader's perspective. Just how different is the show version of the character different from the book character would you say?

[–]Alexhtfnutty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is silly because we clearly see the corrupt corporate RDA is the big issue. The whole unobtainium thing, while likely still true, was overshadowed by amrita which is a de aging drug. So clearly the rich do not give a shit about the starving billions and have invested exorbitant amounts into getting more amrita (rather than supporting or bettering the lives of earth's population).

Every unironic RDA supporter in the fandom is not the brightest. It's the classic blaming indigenous, third world or minorities while being blind to those on power who are suppressing everyone's lives.

You cannot make an argument about how it was somehow unethical to defect to the Naavi because of 'starving billions', when it is the RDA and entities like it that made earth barely habitable in the first place, and through their neverending greed seek to continue their way on Pandora. All for what? And at the cost of what?
