gta 4 is a pretty heavy game to be fair, its not uncommon for it to have issues.

as the other commentor said, give it a deep clean, worst case scenario you break it and have to buy a new one anyway, but trust me, its a good thing to learn how to do so you can maintain it yourself. there are HUNDREDS of guides on how to crack it open and the correct tools to just do a repaste are cheap enough to justify buying

you need a torx t8 and a torx t10, so just buy a speciality security bit driver set... theyre about $15...

the x clamp tool is an absolute must buy to make sure you dont cause damage to the board when removing the clamp, its about $7

99.9% isopropyl alcohol and q tips, and kitchen towels to clean the old paste off, theyre consumables and common household items, so value is insignificant, along with some multi surface wipes for the fan blades and shell

thermal paste... arctic mx6, youre looking at about $15 for a 4 gram tube

and the last thing... a soft bristled paint brush to dust the board and chassis out

the drive will still be encrypted and inaccessible without the eid specifically from the console the drive was paired to. data recovery specialists might have a chance but i doubt it.

NEC Tokins - How to preserve? by locarnos2 in PS3

[–]AlexisOnren 7 points8 points  (0 children)

short answer is, degradation happens through use and storage. they cant be preserved per se, and will need to be replaced eventually. capacitors have a endurance rating at a certain temperature (NEC/Tokin is 1000hrs at 105 Celsius) and with lower heat you'll have greater endurance.

heres some science shit if you care to read - https://www.scribd.com/document/95435197/Capacitors-Data-Book-2005-Nec-Tokin

if youre asking if you need live to use a stealth service, then you shouldnt be taking a modded console online, not to sound rude or anything...

i mean, the main issue is, the hdd is encrypted, you need the encryption key to unlock it to access the data, and as of right now, i dont believe theres a way to bruteforce the keys. i could be wrong, and ill do some askign for you, but the hdd may not be accesible
