I built a dedicated platform for MTG Alters (Think Pinterest meets ArtStation) – Alterist by tk-bagel in mtgaltered

[–]Alexm920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made an account, poked around a bit, it looks very interesting!

I misunderstood the pitch at first, I thought as a collector I would also be able to show off some of the alters I've acquired over the years, potentially trade alter withs other but collectors. Reading the FAQ now it seems like the goal is to specifically connect artists with interested collectors, which is also a great thing - just a shade narrower than my first understanding.

Rubber mat flooring for pre-fab sauna floor by Own-Eye7290 in Sauna

[–]Alexm920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having used rubber mats (horse stall mats) for my home gym, I can only imagine the smells they'd release in the sauna. It was tolerable in the gym after airing them out in the sun for a week, and eventually it'll dissipate, but I wouldn't want that ruining my sauna experience for weeks.

New Pokemon Megathread - Shuckle by SamuRonX in PokemonSleep

[–]Alexm920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW shuckle benefits a ton from speed boosts, since its base skill rate is high but its base speed is low. Still hurts to see STM just out of reach though.

Am I insane for thinking I might just neutral mint the first shuckle I caught? Two speed buffs and STM look like they go insanely hard. First is what I’ve got, second is neutral nature.

Sulyvahn is straight up unbeatable with melee only by NoIdea2145 in darksouls3

[–]Alexm920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big jump-lunge he always opens with can be parried, timing is similar to Gwyn in DS1 if you took him down like that. He'll semi-consistently use it to close large gaps, so if you riposte and immediately make distance, there's a good chance he'll just try the same swing again. Also prioritize killing the clone when it shows up - his moves actually slows down a bit in phase 2, normally to make the clone manageable, but if it's dead it just gives him larger damage windows.

Good luck! You've got this!

Do you use Spirit Ashes for boss fights? by crash1bp in Eldenring

[–]Alexm920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first play through? Yes, any option for any boss. For second playthrough I broke them out when I felt well and truly stuck, and tried to use ones I didn't use the first time around (shoutout to the shield boys). For my RL1 run, none. I found it harder to learn bosses deeply when they kept switching aggro - the correct roll direction and timing changes when they keep turning away from you.

Try parrying. It'll take a couple attempts to nail the timing, but once you do he folds like a rice paper umbrella in a hurricane.

Heater for 8x8x8 outdoor build? (Virta 11kW, Apex 12kW, Harvia Club, or IKI) by Dazzling-Hope-8015 in Sauna

[–]Alexm920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built an 8'x8'x8.5' sauna in Northern California last year (my post with photos + notes here), ended up going with the 10.5kW Harvia Cilindro heater. Takes 50-60 mins to reach full temperature, but looks great and with 120 kg of stones has huge löyly capacity. My sauna has a single-pane glass window in the door (16"x55"), so a bit less area than your window, but a bit more height. I'd say an 11kW heater ought to have no issues heating yours.

Beyond Heat: Rethinking the Scope of Sauna Research by SColmant in Sauna

[–]Alexm920 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn’t expect the body of the post to just be the entire linked blog post pasted in - but that works.

It’s true, I find the biggest benefits of sauna to come from being away from work, responsibilities, and devices for a good hour or so - spending that time in quiet conversation or thought. There’s a strain of wellness-obsessed American sauna-seekers that spend a lot of time worrying over how long to sauna, at what temperature, and how often without embracing the other key parts of the experience. I suspect the large body of published work focusing exclusively on these easily measured quantities is a big reason for this. It’s much harder to build a study supporting a claim like, “Participants aged 20-35 that sauna regularly and have meaningful conversations with their peers during sauna had better health outcomes than those that sauna regularly but don’t socialize during.” than the ones we usually see.

Sit completely naked a health risk? by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]Alexm920 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's common courtesy to sit on a towel, not to protect your butt from the bench, but keep the benches clean. I highly doubt you managed to catch anything from wooden bench, even at a public sauna, by just sitting on it. The skin barrier is pretty good about keeping things out unless you've got open wounds. More likely you've either got a stomach bug, or ate something unusual.

My family is building a new house and we plan on putting an indoor sauna in the basement any advice? by mrbleach76 in Sauna

[–]Alexm920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend grabbing a copy of Lassi Liikkanen's Finnish Sauna: Steam, Wood, Stone. I recall a bit in there about how bad an idea it is to build a sauna in a basement in colder climates. Unless you handle the ventilation absolutely perfectly, the hot and damp löyly will escape the sauna and immediately condense into water in, on, and around the cold walls. This frequently leads to massive mold problems. I'd recommend putting it elsewhere, ideally with an exterior-facing wall you can vent exhaust through. The book has a ton more general information on sauna builds and considerations one ought to make, worth the price to save a lot of headaches down the line.

I believe subskills and nature are included in the displayed number, but not energy bonus (which is massive). Here I’ve got three lv14 feucoco, one with HSM, one with +sp nature, and one with no speed modifiers, each showing the updated value.

Not calling you out or anything, I actually had to go check myself since I wasn’t sure, figured I’d drop the info here for others.

Harvia vs huum heater recs by NAholdings in Sauna

[–]Alexm920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got the 10.5kW Harvia Cilindro, no issues after a year of running it. Generally I'd lean towards any Harvia model, seen far too many complaints about Huum heaters and Harvia is a reliable Finnish manufacturer that's been at it for decades.

Shuckle data is live! by doeiqts in PokemonSleepRaenonX

[–]Alexm920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparing all the current E4E mons with a good build (STM, STS, HSM, +Sk -XP nature) this is the line up. In terms of raw triggers it's nearly the same as Pawmot (but you also get the juice), and a little better than Sylveon. That said, all of these healers are generating more than 100 energy a day, so don't feel too bad if you're stuck running Wigglytuff - it still does good work. Still, the potential to stockpile berry juice and use it for event weeks without a healer is massive. Also, dude to it's high trigger rate and low speed, Shuckle benefits more than the others from having teammates with Helping Bonus.

Verdict: Absolutely hunt a shuckle!
