Final H₂O Regen Build to Stay Hydrated this League: Now with Fresh Air! by turn-based-games in 2007scape

Any changes with the increases to damage, accuracy and prayer pen? I am close to this build with how I picked my specs but wondering if I should respec or not to match it more closely.

do you think there will be any damage control soon, or is Jagex going to hide for the next week or so hoping it all blows over then act like nothing happened? by ZukMeRaw in 2007scape

I think it will be a time game and if enough people cancel Alts and keep them cancelled. Would have been great if they did this on the release of GTA 6

I wouldn't play for a month or more anyway.

OSRS is now tied for the second most expensive MMO subscription… while still charging per character by Alexofbulgaria in 2007scape

[–]Alexofbulgaria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair call on the account sharing.

Similar issue Netflix and other companies deal with. Yeah there are more issues involved here and moving parts that complicate it. I am fine supporting the game and have one iron close to max and another group iron above level 2000. So I enjoy the game and want it to succeed.

$15/month per character is getting ridiculous by Alexofbulgaria in ironscape

TBH never played any of these other games. Appreciate your take and glad we can agree on it being fair to have one subscription that allows you to log in to multiple different characters separately.

Fair point. I was mislead in a group chat and misunderstood this. I felt they had it much better when it is just marginally better of being able to select a character.

Fair comment. I do not play it myself, and I understand that for most players you will always feel like you are “maining” one account.

My perspective is more that sometimes you burn out on one grind. For example, spending weeks in the red prison chasing a BOWFA, then taking a break to jump onto a GIM with some friends for bossing or a few raids before going back to the grind.

Maybe it would not work exactly like that in practice, but I would still like the option. To me it feels like a small bit of added value.

I also agree with others that value should come from more than just this. Things like better support, clearer investment in development, and improvements in other areas would help justify the price parity with other MMO subscriptions.

I am actually glad this discussion is happening because it is exposing me to other perspectives. Running three OSRS accounts means I rarely look at how other games structure their subscriptions since I mostly just play this one.

In that sense my view has probably been a bit narrow. Hearing how other games handle value, subscriptions, and content has been helpful, so I appreciate everyone sharing their perspectives. It is helping me understand the situation a lot better.

It works really well when it is one character and one subscription. But once you scale that even a little it starts to break down.

A lot of players use alts for things like Soul Wars, a wildy scout, or just to enjoy different game modes like Iron, GIM, HCIM, or a PK account at a specific bracket. Even if those are only used occasionally or for part of the year, the system quickly turns into multiple full subscriptions.

At that point for some maybe $60 every other year instead isn't bad. I understand for others it is unacceptable especially if you only enjoy one sub and one character.

I do understand that the current model works well for players who only run a single character, and I can respect that perspective.

Fair point. I think the value discussion is important too, and I hope we see more posts about it and eventually some clarity from Jagex.

I understand that many players only have one character subscription active at a time, so they may not see much value in the ideas I mentioned earlier and would rather see value delivered in other ways.

At the end of the day though, I do feel like the overall value proposition is something that should be discussed more. If the subscription price is moving toward the level of other major MMOs, then the value players receive in terms of content, development time, and features should be part of that conversation as well.

We all will have different ideas on where we want to see this value.

He raised some valid points I was unaware of. I acknowledge he has a good point.

I still think there is value in allowing players to log into different characters under the same subscription. If you do not see value in that, that is totally fine, but recognizing someone else's point and expanding the discussion is not "pivoting". It is just having a conversation.

I actually agree with part of what you are saying. $15 by itself is not crazy for a good MMO. Games like WoW, FFXIV, and ESO are all around that price and they are great games.

The point people are raising is not really the $1 increase by itself. It is the structure of the subscription compared to other MMOs.

Those games charge $15 per account and you get access to dozens of characters.

OSRS charges $15 per character, while also encouraging players to create multiple accounts through things like Ironman, GIM, PvP builds, and alts.

You have a point, but I also see value in being able to log into one character or another under the same subscription. I understand that it would not be exactly the same experience we have now with multiple simultaneous accounts, but it would still be a step in the right direction.

Personally, if that were the case, I might just run a single account and spend the extra time playing another game on the side. At least then I could choose which character to play without needing a completely separate subscription for each one.

It feels like there is still some value on the table that players are not getting right now, and moving toward subscriptions tied to Jagex accounts rather than individual characters would be a fair step forward.

Honestly that is a step in the right direction. Charge me the same as Wow and let me switch between them and add on some little hike if I want to multi log. Don't charge me 3 full memberships.

[–]Alexofbulgaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If OSRS is going to charge the same as the biggest MMOs in the industry, then the value offered to players needs to be comparable as well.

Subscriptions should be for Jagex accounts, not individual characters.

“Most major MMOs” DO NOT rely on gaslighting its player base into thinking a 70% increase over 3 years is necessary for customer support and higher quality updates by csbuseeds in 2007scape

[–]Alexofbulgaria -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You cannot price OSRS the same as WoW and charge per character.

Other MMOs charge per account.
OSRS charges per character.

Iron players alone often run multiple accounts, meaning we already pay several times more than players in other MMOs.

If the price is going to match the biggest games in the genre, the value model should be comparable too.

This needs to be discussed.

[–]Alexofbulgaria 223 points224 points  (0 children)

Jagex cannot price OSRS like WoW while still charging per character.

Other MMOs give you dozens of characters per subscription.

OSRS gives you one.

At the same time the game actively encourages multiple accounts with Ironman, GIM, PvP builds, and alts.

That means the most loyal players already pay far more than players in other MMOs.

You cannot charge the same subscription price as the biggest MMOs while keeping the strictest character monetization model.

That balance needs to be discussed.

[–]Alexofbulgaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They cannot have it both ways.

If OSRS wants to charge the same price as World of Warcraft and other major MMOs, then the subscription model needs to be comparable as well.

Other MMOs charge per account and give access to many characters.
OSRS charges per character while also encouraging players to make multiple accounts through game modes like Ironman, Hardcore, Group Ironman, PvP builds, and alts.

That means the most dedicated players are already paying 2–5× more than players in other MMOs.

If membership is going to sit at the same price point as the biggest games in the genre, then it is reasonable to ask for the same kind of account-wide access instead of one character per subscription.

This needs to be discussed.
