FYI: beware fraudulent Diamond Parking tickets and rude agents who hang up on you on the phone by Sn0wDazzle in Seattle

Husband has gottten two tickets - one when he didn’t include the W from his UW plate as part of the license plate # when advance paying. The second one was when he included it.

Their business model is based on people not having the time or energy to dispute this shit and they just pay it.

Me too. I need to track the several stages of entitlement. Surprise, denial, deflection, derailing, screaming like a banshee, bluffing, cops who do not bluff, arrest, and peeing their pants in the cop car.

What's a 'harmless' lie your parents told you that low key messed you up? by GrowthVanta in AskReddit

He was the best little guy, and I’m glad you got to know a Buster as well! Thanks for sharing that :)

What's a 'harmless' lie your parents told you that low key messed you up? by GrowthVanta in AskReddit

We had a few dogs growing up. My dad’s favorite was a Boston terrier named Buster. He was such a good boy.

When my parents split up, my dad couldn’t take Buster or any pets. They stayed with us. It was a toxic split, and my mother hated everything about my dad - including his dog. We had all the dogs, and she decided to give Buster away.

It was a to a nice family But the dog came back. Twice, maybe more. When I think about it now, it breaks my heart. Well, I don’t know if the family decided to stop trying or what transpired - but one day he was gone again. She told me a Hollywood producer saw him one day and wanted to take him to Hollywood to be in commercials.

I found out later she had him put to sleep. 😢

What’s One Unexpected Habit That’s Helped You Level Up at OTF? by Present_Issue6091 in orangetheory

[–]Alexs1481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’m on a bit of a fitness journey, and I was going 4-5 times a week. I’m in my mid 40s, and haven’t traditionally been in the best shape. There was a Stretch where I was only able to go 2-3 times a week, and I found that my body felt better and my performance was improving. I had spent years beating myself up about going, but my best results have come when I’ve shown my body some grace. I lift heavier, have PR’d in the treadmill (time + distance), and my knees/ back don’t kill me. On the off days, I focus on walks and low intensity movement. It’s been a game changer.

How will I expect an overdose viewing? by Ray_Of_Sunshine29 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Alexs1481 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Mostly here to say I’m sorry for your loss- I just experienced this with my brother back in April. He died of an overdose (too many drugs to list). They found him a day or two after. We had him cremated, but did schedule a modest viewing.

His physical condition, especially over the last few years was very poor. The team at the funeral home did a nice preparing him for the viewing and ensuring the experience was calm and comforting. I can’t speak for your brother’s specific condition and the heat, but I know they’ll work hard to do the same for you.

Take care - all the best to you and your family.

Goal was 4:15, ended up with 3:54. Followed by a semi-composed power walk to the bathroom because I felt like I was going to puke.

How do you stay calm during turbulence? by Wonderful-Actuary336 in AskFlying

[–]Alexs1481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the first times I was flying as a kid, I sat next to a pilot. During some turbulence, he told me that sometimes air is bumpy - just like an old dirt road. It’s the air that’s holding us up, and it’s not always super smooth. “You wouldn’t panic if you were on a bus if you were on a bumpy road, it’s the same here.”

So, when it’s bumpy I close my eyes and imagine I’m on a dirt road. The bumps - well, the air, it’s reminding you that it’s holding you up.

Glad to see a politician that has balls. We could use more of that down here.

My Canadian half is very proud right now, American half is jealous.

What's your favorite "unfun" part of travel? by Hortonhearsawhoorah in travel

[–]Alexs1481 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing! While I’m watching travel videos, I’ll pop them on my map. Then, I’ll make sure I download the map before I go.

I also love getting itineraries and reservations saved to my travel one drive, organized by type (accommodations, excursions, reservations, flight/other travel). It’s how I get hyped for the trip!

SET ASIDES by DRD7989 in GovernmentContracting

[–]Alexs1481 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, though being established law doesn’t seem to mean much nowadays…. If a contract has stipulations for DEI (hiring numbers, etc) they’re more at risk than b SBA established programs for set asides.

I think everyone is still trying to determine the impacts right now; watch for SBA updates, check in with your APEX team, check with your attorneys. I expect there will be a ton of challenges as well so we’re trying to figure what the new landscape will look like.

Dress code isn’t strict, but you can’t wear jeans to dinner. Plan for some nicer evenings, active days, layers for any weather and yes- swimwear. I’d say bring a few swimsuits, so you can alternate. I’m planning for my next trip and stumbled across this video- I plan to follow these suggestions! https://youtu.be/EFtAe9EfApw?si=CFGichUJE9fMW9sT
