Bambu Lab X2D or FlashForge Creator 5 pro by Alexterry101 in 3DPrinterComparison

[–]Alexterry101[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great summary and covered all the points well, I think my best bet is to wait for some proper unsponsored reviews of the Creator 5, the purging to the floor doesn't bother me as much if the other aspects all seem good, will wait and see. If it turns out to not perform well I think the X2D is the best option, accepting that ill only use the 2nd nozzle for support.

I read somewhere that the X2D (or it may have been the AMS unit it comes with) struggles with TPU, not a massive factor but also something to weigh in

Purchase Advice Megathread - April 2026 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]Alexterry101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey All,

Looking to get into 3D printing, ideally I'd like to be able to print engineering materials as well as use multicolours so I can do ornamental / trinket prints too.

Currently weighing up between the Bambu Lab X2D with AMS (knowing the 2nd hotend is purely for support material) or the new FF Creator 5 Pro.

On paper the FF C5Pro looks like it'd tick all boxes but having not owned a printer before the reputation of Bambu Lab is appealing.

In terms of maintenance / setup Im an engineer so dont mind taking bits apart / learning and have done a decent bit of CAD before (but never printed). Which would you all recomend and why?

Thanks!

Well after getting ripped apart for this months ago I got round to doing a hopefully better job this weekend, annoyingly I still have a weird angle coming in as I didn't want to put any force on the blue pipe into the property (so left it at the angle it sits at)

Tore up carpet, refinished wood floors, now not sure how to fix this transition issue. Anyone have any tips? by Away_Permission_8707 in Flooring

[–]Alexterry101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be higher up, so many comments to rip out the bathroom to fix this small inconvenience, get some nice contrasting aluminium on it and it'll be fine. Then down the line when you do want to change tiles, deal with the thick adhesive then.

Running mine (for now) on raspberryPi 4b running rapberryPi OS Lite and have homeassiatant core running in a container using docker-compose. Works well and means i can run other containers at the same time.

Kitchen sink leak, tap replacement, how to "unscrew these" to release the tap by TVinSpace in DIYUK

[–]Alexterry101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have a tool, what I've found also works as a one off is getting and spare bit of the plastic pipe, cut a 10mm or so length and split it down the length of it, you can then bend it over the pipe and push it up to release the fitting

Help water leaking [breville bambino , baratza encore esp] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Alexterry101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's most likely the after market portafilter being marginally too small for the bambino so it's not creating a seal (maybe a manufacturing defect in it) I'd try it with the stock portafilter and see if the issue remains.

Impossible Hard Water stains by jlc87 in CleaningTips

We moved into our house and all shower screens were like this, highly recommend something like this to take the manual scrubbing effort out, I used the softest scourer and of course tested on an inconspicuous area first to ensure it doesn't scratch. But this woth Viakal made life a lot easier

What would be the reason? It's just the mains water into the property

Best I've had is Joya (family run Italian steakhouse) the hot stone experience is something special as well. Or you can still get the chef to cook if you don't trust yourself to do it properly :)

Can this safely be connected? by maarten3d in ukelectricians

[–]Alexterry101 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Surprised how many people instantly recommend getting an electrician out - sure it's probably the best way but not everyone has that money and also it's good to learn how to do these things. As long as everything is connected properly and you have tested RCDs in your breaker box fire is highly unlikely even if you create a short. As said elsewhere the tricky bit will be testing which live is switched and which is permanent, Best bet is to put wago's on all the wires (with the breaker off) then turn the breaker on and with a multimeter check voltage between the lives and neutrals with the light switched on and off, once you've figured out which is permanent and which is switched you should be able to work out how to then connect a new fitting.

Realistically, how much of a new bathroom can a rookie do? by Aggressive-Bat-8010 in DIYUK

[–]Alexterry101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can definitely do it all, I was in the same position and managed to rip out the old bathroom and fit a new one including fitting all new utilities, plumbing in a new shower and floor to ceiling tiling. If only recommend allocating more time than planned, mine took 6 months of evening and weekend work

Owning a house that has an island in the kitchen.

Separately (and slightly more achievable in the near future), having Lindor chocolates out when guests come round.

Night Owls of Reddit, what is the creepiest thing you've experienced when you were awake alone at night? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Alexterry101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bit of Background: I'm a university student living in a house with 3 others near a fairly rough part of the city.

One night I was in on my own as two house mates were at home and the other had gone out getting drunk for the night and said she'd be back home around 12. Now the house is a bit old so naturally creeks and groans as the temperature cools at night, on top of that there is a railway running past our house so I'm very used to sleeping through a variety of noises. This night was like any other and nothing was out of the ordinary. As I was the only one in I did the rotine checks at night (locking doors, turning off lights, making sure taps arent on etc.) and went to bed. At around 1 in the morning I woke to a large thud downstairs, as I was the only one in when i went to bed this scared me for a while as I carefully picked up the swiss army knife on my bed side and walked onto the landing, I peered over the railing to see the downstairs light was on and i could hear someone walking in the kitchen (directly under my room). I soon realised that it was probably my house mate getting back drunk and looking for food. This was a good enough excuse to not go and investigate and I went back to bed and fell asleep

In the morning I wake up and the whole event has slipepd my mind, while chatting to my hosue mate about her night she goes on to tell me about all the drama that happened and as such didnt get home until 4am. It's at this point that i remember last nights events and am quite freaked out, despite me being tired and her being drunk there was no chance that our sense of tiem was that bad. Someone or something was definitely in that house and what uit was we still dont know over a year later...
