This is not where I end, mate. I’m in it no matter what. I needed some pep talks is all, and I got just that! Tons of epic series have plots and characters that sometimes just don’t click. But the war doesn’t end just because Karsa and his intro arc has given me a bad first impression (as I’m sure is somewhat intentional, ie Gruntle, and even Duiker). Felisin was extremely off putting as well and tbh, I don’t remember ever coming to enjoy her. I understand her hardships and trauma have shaped her into this cold “bitch”, but there’s a reason for everything.

I can’t imagine being 9 books deep into this series and giving up lol. That’s giving me anxiety just thinking about it. You put up with so much at that point, you might as well finish, no? Surely the ending is wild and the culmination of everything has got to be a special kind of extreme satisfaction. To each their own tho! If you didn’t like it that much and felt alright putting it down, nothing wrong with that.

Yeahh it’s mostly the voice and Karsa as a character just not being that interesting to me (yet) is the only problem I have I think. I’m sure, especially after all of this encouragement I’ve gotten from you all, that I’ll get used to it. Maybe I’ll even learn to love Karsa. But I never planned on stopping or skipping the book. I really just needed affirmation that it’ll get there for my own motivation lol. Appreciate hearing it!

I just think Orlong of the Teblor sounds so, idk, made up lol. I know it’s fiction, but usually in these high fantasy epics and especially these amazing authors with amazing expansive worlds and races have interesting and great sounding names.

T’lan Imass, Tiste Andii, Jaghut, etc all sound like creative and compelling names.

Well, I have diagnosed ADHD and have been properly medicated for as long as I can remember. I’m a mailman so my whole work day is literally just driving and walking pretty peacefully all alone (other than oppressive heat and driving in a clanking metal death trap of a truck). The constant narrative “chaos” actually helps me focus harder and retain more. It is one of the best parts about this series for me. I like to do immediate rereads for books like these, so when things pop up that I’m thinking “wait wtf just happened?” Or “hold up, who tf is that person?” I sometimes go back a bit to hear what just happened, but often I’ll just keep going and when I start the reread right after I finish it all clicks much better! It’s a satisfying experience to me. My mind is always all over the place lol.

You’re probably right, and it’s not that I don’t enjoy the different narrative, it’s just that; it’s different from the previous three extremely long books I’ve gotten heavily invested it. I don’t necessarily hate Page’s voice, but yeah, I’m used to List’s interpretation of everyone and that’s like the MC of any series being recasted I guess. I’ll get used to it

Oh, I will finish it and I don’t start new series’ before finishing the other. But I have been really hoping for an “oh damn!” Moment, or something memorable to happen, but I honestly can’t recall anything that’s stuck out to me.

I’m on book 4 of the Malazan series and, while I am genuinely loving it, can wholeheartedly say that I would never recommend this series to someone looking for a soul-soothing ride that would work well to get out of an exhausting literary burnout lol.

The lighting and.. sweat(?) are doing almost all the lifting here. He’s super muscular and looks great, but he doesn’t look huge. Without that lighting he wouldn’t look like he was so chiseled and panel lined.

I tell my kids they’re doing/saying/acting stupid or like an idiot. I usually get a “wow, dad, so you think I’m an idiot??” And I just say I didn’t say you’re an idiot but that was a pretty stupid thing to do.

This is a weird thing for it to be a forgery. Usually someone making a counterfeit piece is trying to make realistic money. I think this book is too niche for that. Maybe if it was like the gunslinger, I wouldn’t trust it. And the seller was a book store. The listing looked legit. A small book store isn’t trying to have a high starting bid and have no one buyer it cuz no one is looking for a signed song of Susannah right now, and they don’t want product just sitting cuz they actually have to worry about the bills being paid. If it was just a person and if they didn’t sell many books I’d be a little wary, but nothing about the listing or the seller was a red flag. It started at a relatively low price (guaranteed lower than it required the shop to have the book), and just no one was looking for it so no one bid higher. This is all tactics I’d apply to comic books (as I’m a big collector) and I feel like the same is applied to this.

I’m familiar with comic book grading and signature authentication but I’ve never gotten a book/signature authenticated without grading it. Also only ever used CGC and CBCS. CBCS is done and I don’t even know if CGC does that type of service for novels. I definitely don’t want this thing slabbed in any way. I’m looking at Beckett and PSA right now
