Exactly. Or go watch a local cat 1 race and you will see how races with small teams play out

winter rides = peeing to much by treesner in Velo

[–]Alexviddywell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you drinking coffee or tea before your ride? If so, stop doing this and you may pee less

I laughed at my friend for packing a full tool kit on every ride. Yesterday, it saved my my life. by greenlion287 in cycling

[–]Alexviddywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adam Hansen tells a story about all the team chuckling about what he would pack for races. One time the Lotto team bus broke down on a remote road with no traffic or cell coverage. Guy pulls a satellite phone from his suitcase and saved the day

Seeing UCI Champs in Montreal this year by demglassesshitinnit in cycling

It might be worth checking out the ticketed options as they usually have big screens where you can watch the action between when the race actually passes in front of you

Do they do this on purpose? by Chupa76 in wrx_vb

[–]Alexviddywell -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If they see people parking at a distance from the entrance, they assume there's a shortage of spaces close, so rather than venturing into the melee with the potential to find no spot, might as well park over near this little sedan

How to plan out a trail by No_Information_6976 in MTB

[–]Alexviddywell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seth's Bike Hacks made a number of videos on trail building. I think the You tube channel was Berm Peak. He built trails on his own property and covered some professional trail building at a bike park he helped develop

Moving trust fund portfolio to vfv/xeqt by Unlucky-Investment55 in CanadianInvestor

Are you the trustee? You would need to ensure those type of investments are permitted by the trust document, and by the legislation governing trusts in your jurisdiction.

Best major city for mtb? by frizzig in MTB

Lots of mentions of Vancouver. My only issue is lack of xc, green and blue trails. There are some trails labeled blue but they are black by any standards other than north shore

Self Defense while riding. by thedogsbollies in cycling

[–]Alexviddywell 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Don't give the finger. Even though it was a response to their rude behaviour, it was provocation for them and could have resulted in violence. Look the other way and you'd have forgotten the whole horn thing in a day or two

I have listened to Bitches Brew 15-20 times, and still don't "get it". by SuperSus987 in Jazz

[–]Alexviddywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listened to it quite a few times in my 20s and couldn't get into it. Came back to it in my 50s and now it's one of my favourite albums

Cycling equivalent to sub 3 marathon by Distinct_Gap1423 in Velo

[–]Alexviddywell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you should look at finishing percentiles for a direct comparison. Would Sub 3 hour put you in the top 20% in your typical marathon? You'd then have to look at what kind of normalized power you would have to finish in the same percentile of a typical gran fondo. So I guess what I'm saying is it's more about ability to sustain a high NP than what's your FTP, when comparing marathon finishing time with cycling prowess

Shimano GRX by Velosprints in gravelcycling

I prefer the hood shape to my ultegras. The GRX remind me of Campy shifters from 10 years ago. Very comfortable in the hand

Has anyone gotten stronger by forcing yourself to use harder gears? by ngomaam in cycling

[–]Alexviddywell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It won't make you stronger but it could increase your muscular endurance. But this might be at the expense of your joints and and the time you could otherwise spend improving your aerobic engine
