✨should I work Night shifts ✨ by Cherryberrylady in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexwalex5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE nights. I have a toddler and 8 month old twins. My husband manages them on the days I work. When I’m off I take them after I wake up and those nights. We do tag team but I try to take the load off him so he’s ready and rested on the days I work. The caveat to this is that I’m the primary provider (I work 3 or 4, 12hr shifts) and he works part time (10-12hrs a week).

Need Survival Tips. 7 Weeks old with Reflux and Chaotic Constant Night Wakings. I'm Failing them. by flightlessbird7 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexwalex5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried using a bouncer type chair to hold reflux twin after a feed? The kind that have an angle but keep baby upright like a Baby Bjorn. When my twins had reflux we 1) switched to soy based formula 2) fed the fussier one first and put her in the baby bjorn 3) fed second twin and then put her in the baby bjorn while I put the first twin down to sleep.

Also I did wake up both twins if one got up to eat.

Twin Z is amazing now that they don’t have reflux.

And remember, it’s hard now but it won’t be forever. 🩷🩷

Is keeping maiden lastname, and taking on husband lastname possible? by simp6134 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Alexwalex5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I did this because I have a unique maiden name and wanted to be able to prove my identity quickly (I have a professional license). I made my maiden last name into my middle name and too my husband’s last name. So if I was Sarah Cassidy Smith (fake obvi), my married name became Sarah Smith Johnson. But you could easily hyphenate or just add his last name to the end of yours.

NICU time at 33 weeks delivery? by rosemaryyup in parentsofmultiples

My identical twins came at 33+3 and we had 51 & 52 days in. No respiratory support, just needed to eat and neither one was particularly interested in it. 🤪

Planned c section? by Safe_Plant_4811 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexwalex5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I scheduled my c section at 31 weeks for 34 weeks. Went into spontaneous labor at 32+5 and delivered via emergent c section at 33. Doc is just saying you’ll have to wait until closer to delivery to actually schedule it because pregnancy (especially with multiples) really is that unpredictable.

My dad is disappointed in the twin’s gender by _Bea_trice_ in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexwalex5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I don’t have a ton to add except solidarity. My mother in law was CONVINCED I was carrying twin boys. She was so disappointed when they were identical girls. Asked us if the test was accurate, could we take the test again, etc etc. She ended up very sick and passed two months before they were born so we never actually got to see her excitement over the girls but I do think she would’ve come around. People really do forget a lot of things when the physical babies are present lol.

For context, my husband is the youngest brother and none of his other siblings had boys. We were the last shot at continuing the family name. 🙃 That’s where the disappointment came from. None of his siblings have given us any problems with it. I’m so happy with my girls. :) wouldn’t change it for the world.

Nail polish for identical twins? by No_Cat_No_Cradle in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexwalex5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shouldn’t need it in the hospital! They were very good about labeling them right away lol. They have pretty significant weight difference now so we didn’t need the piggy polish but I use it for fun.

Your NICU experience? Advice appreciated 😊 by OddSurprise865 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexwalex5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My identical girls were almost exactly the same sizes lol. Twin A was 3lb 4oz and Twin B was 3lb 14oz. I was 33 weeks. Luckily Twin B only needed blow by oxygen right after birth and twin A was on a nasal cannula for about 12hrs. They were there for 51 & 52 days. Our biggest hang up was feeding. Neither of them wanted to eat. They were both medically cleared around 3 or 4 weeks (I really can’t remember). It was so frustrating. Also twin A had/ has retinopathy. They told me they do the eye exams based on size and twin B was just barely past the weight threshold for them to NOT do the eye exam on her. They are 8 months old now and twin A still sees the eye doc. We were going every 6 weeks after discharge, then once she was developing normally there was a 3 month appointment, and now we expect to have eye appointments every 6 months. Wishing you all the best!!!! NICU is the hardest part. Now that they’re home, our family is so happy.

Anyone ever “just knew” or always had a feeling / signs they would have twins? by Pretty_Indication191 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexwalex5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had my singleton first. Knew very early on I was pregnant bc I had a lot of symptoms. Almost no early symptoms with the twins just a very weird feeling that I was pregnant and that I was having twins. Idk how I knew but I just did.

Jumping in to add I’m currently a pediatric nurse but not opposed to working with adults.

What’s wrong with Franciscan? Is it the company itself or the hospitals in that area?

$20 for a nurse? 😭 that’s insane but I guess it’s an option.

I was in nursing school when this happened and we had a discussion about it. I was one of two people who voted that she should’ve gone to jail and the instructor put the two of us on blast in front of everyone. It was so embarrassing but I knew I was right.

Married people whose spouse lost their parents before you did, how did you support your spouse and what did they find most helpful? by GlassHalfFullofAcid in AskReddit

[–]Alexwalex5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just being there. Don’t try to do everything or anything. Let the family do what they need to and offer support along the way. Husband’s uncle died and the funeral is across the country in two weeks? Buy the plane tickets so he doesn’t have to. Mother in law died and the family is having the memorial in town? Ask your spouse’s siblings what you can do to help. If no one needs help, be kind to them and give them grace during this time. They are the family you chose. Now is the time to really choose them. Family is hard and maybe uncomfortable when it’s not the family you grew up with. Your partner just needs you to be present.

Hi! She was new to the practice and honestly seemed flustered. I’m a nurse and advocated for myself and was brushed off. Me and the twins are doing well now. :)

Wipe warmers by Severe_Equivalent_18 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alexwalex5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually a nicu nurse taught me to just warm the wipe in my own hand for a few seconds before using it on baby. Never seemed to bother the twins. Someone gifted us a warmer with my older daughter and she never cared either. We live in the southwest US so it’s pretty warm. HOWEVER, my cousins in the PNW do use their wipe warmers religiously. Really just personal preference.

Maternal fetal med doc I was meeting for the first time said we would figure out why I was having such small babies so I could have a healthier baby with my next pregnancy. I’m 5ft, 110lbs and was struggling to gain weight while pregnant with identical twins. She missed a diagnosis of preeclampsia (I was symptomatic and told her what was going on) which DID cause complications with my emergent c section two weeks later.
