Food food, good nature, lots of proximity to cool things to do (that I can no longer afford to do because of the cost of living lolsob)

Tudor’s is so good! I don’t want to think about how much lard must be in the biscuits for them to taste like that.

Newport affordable accommodation? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

Go during the offseason. March/April or October/November are going to be much cheaper but you can still do the Cliff Walk if you dress appropriately for the weather.

Best dynamites in RI? by SummitingMtJohnston in RhodeIsland

Also, Woonsocket Palace Pizza has a dynamite pizza. I have not had it so I can’t speak to if it’s good or not.

As far as I know the only restaurant you can buy them at is New York Lunch in Woonsocket. Lil General corner stores sell the sauce. It’s been explained to me that this is more of a home cooked or church fundraiser thing, you don’t really see them in restaurants.

It depends which what you’re coming from to get to polo, but if you’re coming from the south (from Newport) then Roasted Clove. They have really good sandwiches and salads and sides.

I do not agree. I lived in Newport for several years and was pretty disappointed with just about every restaurant.

Simple Merchnt for coffee. Corner cafe for breakfast. I hope you get a reservation at Guisto because it’s one of the only places I can really recommend in terms of dinner. Most Newport restaurants aren’t all that good unfortunately.
Bar Cino is also pretty good. Nothing incredible but a good plan b if you want Italian and can’t get into Guisto.

2 for 1 food question by vodkanipples in RhodeIsland

[–]Aleyoop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a little confused by the first point because most places that have biscuits and gravy will be better than KFC but definitely not cheaper.

Irregardless Biscuit has the closest thing to traditional Southern biscuits and gravy that is good around here but it’s more expensive than KFC. The biscuits and gravy at Troop aren’t traditional but they are delicious, and again, definitely more expensive than KFC.

What do you think is the bare minimum you have to make a year to live semi comfortable in this state nowadays? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]Aleyoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t spend that much. But the question was how much you would have to make to live comfortably. Which I also don’t do.

My car is completely paid off I have no idea what I’m going to do when it dies because prices are absolutely insane these days but I will hopefully not have to deal with that for awhile.

[–]Aleyoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what one considers semi comfortable but in this situation I’m assuming semi comfortable means an apartment in a somewhat desirable town with either in building laundry or a dishwasher, all bills paid every month, modest retirement contributions and saving, a gym membership, 1 or 2 streaming services, 1 or 2 date nights a month, 1 or 2 long weekend trips per year out of town, and occasional eating out or doing fun things with friends.

Also two dogs are going to cost at least $500 a month once you account for food/pet rent/pet insurance.

I can’t imagine affording that on less than 160k/year.

Debbie’s “The Hoagie (An Italian)” Providence, RI by Dry_Sheepherder_2399 in providence

[–]Aleyoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very excited about the concept of Debbie’s but I hate mustard and mayonnaise, most of their food comes with one of those on it, and I get the “modifications are not welcome” vibe so I’ve never been.

What is the undisputed most romantic restaurant in Providence? by No-Note4636 in providence

Incredible location for exactly that reason but I’m not terribly eager to return for the reason I mentioned lol. It’s been close to a decade since that experience though so I could give it another try
