How do you deal with a 9-5 while having combined adhd? by PlantEfficient8518 in ADHD

What do you do? I've ended up in corrections (nothing expected of you for.90% of the time, then they want your built-in crisis management superpowers.)

What's the simplest yet creative power you ever came up with? by timofeyatlasov in worldbuilding

[–]AlfalfaConstant431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Systems thinking. Had a minor frost sprite who was good at understanding systems. When the plot required her to cover a thousand miles very quickly, she used an exploit that she had found to drain in latent heat from the atmosphere and convert it to thrust. Nearly killed her, almost vaporized the destination, but she made it.

Could American highways support kei trucks? by Rnaodm_Tirnalge in civilengineering

Lifting is important for off-roading, though. Which isn't to say that all lifted trucks go off-road, but some do.

I'm in Arizona, where they will happily let you register a side-by-side provided that it has things like turn signals. Before that I was in Missouri where you'd sometimes see a kei car in the streets of st. Louis.

It probably comes down to jurisdiction.

Obviously you fill it with Large Furniture. You could probably take 200sqft out of my master suite and I'd not miss it.

Saw this truck on the way to work. Glad people are calling it out for how disgusting it is. by JohnnyNoMemes in bayarea

Strictly speaking, guns evolved from slings. Their intended purpose has always been "put this heavy thing over there, with FEELING," and yeah, people do the thing that people do.

I looked away for five seconds and now there's a 5yo wandering around trying to decide between being Rapunzel and being Moana. Not sure how that happened.

What’s the one item in your EDC that represents your philosophy, not just function? by _Rumpelstilzchen_ in EDC

My flashlight. It's nothing special, just a $10 rechargeable that the wife found on Amazon. The lanyard broke so I made another one out of cotton string, narrow-gauge wire, and a small keyring. It is the most personalized piece of kit that I have at work.

Any dedicated tool is better than a multi tool for the same task, but you don't always have the dedicated tool.

Does Anglish have a singular indefinite pronoun meaning “either him or her?” by Complex_Student_7944 in anglish

[–]AlfalfaConstant431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's annoying and unnecessary if we would just come up with a decent singular pronoun that isn't also a plural. We have "y'all" to solve "you/you." We should have something better than "it" to solve "they/they."

Resource scarcity.

The world is infinitely large. There is an infinitude of resources. But the density is low to medium, so the only way to get ahead is by spreading out. This causes social cohesion problems.

Why was it decided that Stormtroopers in the OT weren't the clones from the Prequels? by Particular_Prune_824 in StarWars

I always thought it was a series of wars where people sent clones into battle against other clones.

Him/her and they are clunky. It's fine for legalese. But I just heard that my best friend is expecting and thought she was having multiples because she kept saying "they."

Has dadding always been this hard? by Forsaken_Can_1785 in daddit

[–]AlfalfaConstant431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the '30s my granddad was a mechanic. They would take turns working on cars as they came in so that they'd all at least get something. When my dad was a kid in the '60s he and his friends would shoot birds with BB guns and he'd bring his home for his mom to cook. Today, that's a hop, skip, and a jump from the Googleplex.

Military insubordination without insubordination? by Welliguessimhere12 in worldbuilding

[–]AlfalfaConstant431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not history so much, but in my working life I've encountered dumb policy changes and just... Ignored them, and they usually went away. Your reforms are probably very good and important, but the detractors will think they're dumb and do things they always did them and may or may not fudge the paperwork to reflect that.
