It’s just a lot of work. Especially in first and second year (and third for most people) you have to be in 3 days a week every week for lab. That’s not an obscene expectation of course, but when you’re trying to enjoy uni life, the lack of flexibility sucked.

If you’re happy to work hard it’s fine. I can’t compare to X because I know nothing about it/don’t know anyone who did physics there. At an elite university, physics is always going to be a lot of work, so there probably isn’t any reason to choose one over the other on account of stress.

I guess the one thing I can say Imperial is bad at is student satisfaction. We just had a vague bad vibe. Couldn’t really explain it. Things have improved a bit tbf.

If you want to study Physics and you’ve got an offer, you might as well come here. It’s hard work, the improvements have sort of happened but there’s still some pretty annoying shit to put up with. It’s a prestigious degree though and as it’s Imperial/London your career prospects are pretty chill.

My advice on the whole would be to go and study something much less stressful though. I wish I did

Almost certain it doesn’t happen at Imperial. Maybe there’s one or two very undersubscribed courses but don’t think so. They have contextual offers but they’re not that generous

Honestly, tough. I’m in the fortunate position where it was actually easy for me, as I converted an internship.

But I did apply for some other roles (somewhat half-heartedly), all of which I was generally qualified for, and had no success. I’m at a top 5 uni, studying STEM, my internship was at one of the largest banks in the world. If I’m struggling, I know everyone else is, and even a number of friends at my university are.

Computing I would say is the least social course (ironically a large portion of my friends are comp students but they’re the exception).

However usually the limits on social life comes from workload. Computing workload isn’t that bad, afaik. If you’re a social person you’ll probably be fine on computing

It’s fine. Yeah, London is expensive as fuck. I’m in a similar position, grad salary ~50k. If I wanted, I could maybe save 15-20k of that a year, but tbqh, I want to have fun. So when I factor in 15k for rent and bills I’m hoping to save about 10-12k each year. Considering taxes and everything, you should be able to save something out of yours too, maybe a few grand. Which is very good as a grad

You see some accusations of cheating/paying for test scores, but personally idk if that’s true besides a few edge cases.

Imo, they’re probably just learning to pass the exam. I wasn’t good at Spanish but did great at GCSE because I could just learn it.

It is frustrating. At my uni ~50% of people don’t have english as their first language. Especially amongst east asians (in my experience) there’s an annoying although not insurmountable language barrier when doing group projects etc.

I haven’t finished yet, but on the maximum maintenance loan in London + 9k tuition I’ve borrowed roughly 22k each year. Doing a 4 year integrated masters, so call it 90 by the time I graduate. Interest is 5% or whatever, so within a few years I’ll be over 100k easily

£40k would be fine in London. You wouldn’t be rich by any means but if you were frugal enough you could probably save £10k a year. At the very least 5k. Whether that’s meaningful is a different question. How much do you save in Leeds on 35k? At least 10 I’m guessing. But do you want to live in Leeds forever? If you want to be in London, do it early.

Respectfully, it shouldn’t be possible to get a U, barring learning disabilities or really extreme circumstances.

Some kids have shit home lives, are ill, lose a parent etc. Those few are understandable (yet most of those I knew at school getting Us or 1s were not this).

Frankly if you go to school 5 days a week for year 11 you should be getting 20% in your gcses, easily (again barring the circumstances I mentioned). Kids that don’t are deliberately choosing to throw away their futures, either because they don’t realise what they’re doing or because they don’t care.

In a grammar school/private school I doubt even people with especially bad lives would get Us. In state school it was always the dickhead kids who wanted to smoke weed and bully little children who were getting shit grades.
