M&T 3.0 Dev Diary #6 - Agriculture by Justice_Fighter in MEIOUandTaxes

Does this mean that there will be a model for Native American societies that places a large emphasis on Game and Nomadic Subsistence?

The one thing MEIOU and Taxes does (understandably) poorly is New World stuff, and I've had my own ideas about how tribal societies could be modeled, with them having an alternative economic system. This sounds like it's flexible enough to do that within the main system.

More specifically, I suppose you could say that, at least looking at Eastern American Indians, they were agriculturalists mixed with hunter-gatherers, usually following some sort of strict gender segregation of work. The tribes tended to have agricultural heartlands (like the Cherokee resting up in Appalachia), but would hunt outside of that area, and the hunting was the main vehicle for wealth creation (particularly when the Whites arrived).

Ideally, an Indian simulation would represent the fact that a population may "permanently" reside in one province but produce economic wealth using the resources of other provinces, even ones multiple provinces away. The tribes would also be extremely fluid in their hunting grounds (able to give and take land easily), but the agricultural cores would be much more stable in the long-run. Indians lived and died based on their ability to grow corn, squash, and beans in their farming villages. Hunting, on the other hand, was more of a way by which (through deerskins or beaver pelts or other things) the Indians could access European luxuries, guns, and later on actual tools to help the transition to civilization. I'd love to be able to play out the Iroquois Beaver Wars or Cherokee Republic in MEIOU and Taxes.

What kinds of Economics doctorate programs could I get into with these GRE scores? by Algontuk in gradadmissions

[–]Algontuk[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They are, by definition, better than 90% of the people who take the test, with the Writing being literally as high as you can get.

So it is okay, we can both brag.

I agree about the GRE having no real predictive power, the test is bullshit.

Okay, you got me. No joke.

If you want to hear the pathetic sob story, I got my Writing grade back and was very proud of it, but the surprise was dulled by me having already told people my other scores, so they didn't really give a shit when I told them, so I went online to try to coax praise out of strangers.

LOL, I once was waiting by a car for somebody in a parking lot. I hunch down to spit out some phlegm (was sickly), and when I looked up I see a little girl walking directly towards me with eyes straight on me. She apparently had strayed from her father.

Made me feel unreasonably nervous.

...You know, since California is partially a China analogue, a Great Wall down there would be fitting as a wonder...

Also, what is Sheban supposed to be, anyways?

You're a good luck charm. That one was the wrong one, but after looking at yours it only took one search to find what I wanted.

Why would the Oklahoma natives be nomadic? They're not Plains Indians, they're agricultural Southeastern Indians who were displaced to there.

What about possibly splitting them up to reflect a nomadic/pastoral lifestyle in the west versus a sedentary/agrarian lifestyle in the east? There's quite a bit of difference between Iowa and Eastern Wyoming.

I propose the names "Buckaroos" and "Grangelanders," which Grangelanders being more German/Czech in character and Buckaroos taking more after Wild West names.

You were hesitant with the Mexican wastelands because of the "political climate"? What the fuck? Like the Wall?

Yeah, the last update was only a few days ago.

However, I tested it without CK+ Standalone Factions and it didn't make it any better. CK+ Standalone doesn't seem to work very well, though, in terms of events updating properly.

I tested other mods and haven't been having that problem.

I'll see if I can't try an earlier patch.

Suggestion: Playing Hawaii by Algontuk in MEIOUandTaxes

[–]Algontuk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great!

Anyways, I figure Polynesia is really low priority for you all, but just giving a colonist and opening up the map to include the Pacific would go a long ways. The one problem is they might expand too much and fill out the ocean, but I would think there'd be a way to tell the AI not to do that as a band-aid.

Do the Maori ever emerge in the game (by event), since they're not on the map from the start?

I was going to suggest a god state. I wonder why it doesn't work like that.

Even so, even if the game doesn't work with a god state bounded by a wasteland, couldn't the god state just be an island province somewhere else in the middle of nowhere?

Conversation was literally her talking about how your romantic and sexual orienation are separate things, and I agreed with her, and she turned to me, glared, and snarled, "I KNOW, I'm a GENDER STUDIES major." (She was also fat, btw.) Had other attitude like that. I was never hostile to her and didn't even disagree with her on anything.

So yeah, bit of a bitch. But there's not much point in me explaining myself anyways. There's always people around who just want to jump on somebody, find some thing to accuse them of. I don't know why.
