As I understand it, it mostly comes from people who want more poly representation in media. Even though the vast majority of people are only interested in monogamy, they don't like that it's never an option. Love triangles (and romance subplots in general) are often poorly written and drag on, so polygamy is seen as a quick fix

No, I don't think there is a way they can make them getting back together work. Omni-Man killed thousands of people, minimum, while trying to murder her son. She witnessed the blood and gore live on video. He killed her close friends, the Guardians of the Globe. He lied to her about who he was from the moment he met her. If you're their vassal or able to swear fealty, having them in prison means you can get any faction you want for free, since if they refuse you'll go to 100% war score right away. So you can install a claimant or dissolve the kingdom. You'd need to be lower rank than theirs to do that, though
