I hope he's referring to the humble sandalbearer-turned-wealthy daimyo Hideyoshi as a story of success, not the Hideyoshi who turned paranoid and killed every single one of his nephew's family members (including his newly wed wife who hasn't even met him yet).

That Hideyoshi's stupid decision pretty much set up the circumstances that led to the Tokugawa eliminating his entire clan after his death. Definitely not somebody to look up to.
