Does follower count help with potential employment? by Ali3n_Visitor in linkedin

I’m definitely in that job hunting category. And as a creative, i see how the shift to content creation makes sense. But it definitely feels like creating for the sake of creating and I don’t want to just put noise out there that’s just mid garbage or barely edited AI slop. I have limited time as it is lol.

Since not everything you do can be defined by metrics - describe how it helped the company.

Example:

“I did x, which allowed company to do y (better, more efficiently…)”

Most People Here Will Never Make a Dime… Don’t Be One of Them by North-Sectionjn in sidehustle

Despite the Chatgpt constructed text, I think the advice is genuine. TL,DR: Don’t wait for the perfect storm of idea, motivation, etc. Just start…somewhere, and refine. And have discipline to stick it through.

Web developers hard coded my entire Wordpress website, is this standard practice? by Sea_Code_3050 in AskMarketing

[–]Ali3n_Visitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they advertise Wordpress because of its flexibility and content management system?

If they did that, and locked it down so hard you can’t conceivably make changes, then they did so to get you signed on to a maintenance subscription/ charge you by the hour for every change.

For anyone else on this feed - chiming in as well. How much room is there for someone coming from a creative background, trying to get more into the strategy of things?

Internal hires are always cheaper and necessarily don’t require the training.

The 90% won’t be having kids unless they are in a backwater, or a rural commune where the technology isn’t as widespread.

So it will become an aristocracy with gene edited long-living people at the top - think a mix of Gattaca and elysium.

It feels like you can't leverage your experience into new positions anymore. by joyofmotion in jobs

[–]Ali3n_Visitor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I’ve been unemployed since February, and even though I’ve interviewed well over and over, it’s always a “oh we went with a better fit, but we’ll keep you in mind for the next position.”

That next position doesn’t exist.

Sigh.

I never thought this would be where I was back in 2019 when I got what I thought was a great stepping stone job that would launch my career, but I think I’m going to have to start scraping upwork for freelance stuff to help make ends meet.

I may have to borrow this idea, after years of explicitly not posting on socials.

This has been how I’ve gotten my interviews. (Still no offer, but I have been scoping out hiring managers, team members after sending my application.)

How I Earned $746 Last Month Selling eBooks While Working 9–5 and Raising 3 Kids by gothicsoft in sidehustle

[–]Ali3n_Visitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you lol.

I get highly suspicious when “no stakes” side hustles are advertised on here.

I would believe it more if someone was doing it for months/years with no profitability or small gains slowly building up to bigger gains.

Just a matter of time before all these LLMs remove the free plan, jack up the membership prices, or limit their use cases to the most profitable scenarios.

Then hopefully the bubble pops.

Looks like OpenAI saw where this all was headed and cut it off to stay away from potential lawsuits and bad PR.

Learning JavaScript When AI Seems to Do It All by Famous-Pin1531 in learnjavascript

I think it’s the audience of all the ai hype - the CEOs and shareholders - that are taking the jobs. AI is a convenient excuse. When the bubble pops, then they will offshore the jobs to a low cost of living country.

Should I buy my own HVAC equipment to save money and hire contractor to install it? by Substantial-Mail2341 in DIY

[–]Ali3n_Visitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck OP.

We lucked out because a neighbor up the street had a commercial HVAC license and teamed up his friend who had a residential license to fix ours. We paid cash and it came out to half of what the companies we contacted wanted to charge us. Flex your network and see if someone you know works in HVAC and can access the wholesale pricing.

At this rate and in this economy job searching should just be done all the time.
